Send Your Kids to Camp and Watch Them Grow!

We received the following comments from past campers and summer staff who participated in our recent Instagram contest. Faith, relationships, and love are common themes. Camp has had an incredible impact in their lives and their faith. What was true for so many of us when we came to camp is still true today. Praise the Lord! "There's a special feeling you have at camp. A feeling you can't recreate back home. A feeling that everyone surrounding you

cares about you."

"I really learned more about God. I grew and will continue to grow in my faith. "

"Some of my best and favorite memories are from my times at

camp. Without Camp Luther I don't know where I would be today.”

"Camp.....the place where you make lifelong friends and grow stronger in your faith all while making amazing memories."

"Never has a place made me feel so welcomed, loved, changed,

worthwhile or beautiful."

"I was shown over and over again that I am loved."

"Never have I learned so much or grown so quickly. This place changed my life while Christ changed my heart and taught me to

serve."

"You don't have to worry about anything. Everyone loves you for who you are."

"Everyone grows at their

own pace, in their own way, but everyone should experi-

ence Camp Luther." I am amazed at how impor-

tant the camp experience has been for these young people. While not every child is changed at camp, I know for some camp will be the best week of their summer. For others it will be the best week of their year. And for a few it will be the most important week of their life! Thank you for supporting this important ministry.

Art and Elaine Schmitt

Named Volunteers of the Year “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

Congratulations, Art and Elaine Schmitt of Birman-wood, WI, our 2013 Volun-teers of the Year! The Schmitts have been regular and faithful Camp Luther volunteers for more than 25 years. Art has been the man to call when-ever a cabinetry, fine woodworking, or construc-tion project has been needed at camp. He is re-sponsible for dozens of projects at camp and re-cently Keweenaw Base Camp. As a master gardener Elaine has lead the effort to beautify camp each spring with flowers and plants. The Schmitts along with their boys, Robert and Joe, have always en-joyed working on projects together. Workbee Weekends became a perfect fit as the boys were growing up. While growing up Robert and Joe once remarked: “There was nothing else we would rather do on a weekend than go to Workbee!” Art and Elaine are well known for their talents and dedication, but also their faith and humility. They have been blessed through relation-ships with the camp staff and other volunteers at Camp Luther. “Its very encouraging to see change in the camp and all the work accom-plished at a workbee.” Thank you, Art and Elaine, for your Christian witness and blessing Camp Luther through your talents and dedica-tion!

Welcome Poet! Hello Camp Luther family! It is be-yond humbling to be your Program Director and to serve at a place that is so special to us. Let me in-troduce myself. My name is Tanner ‘Poet’ Olson. I am 24 years old and eat my pancakes with lots of syrup. I served as a counselor in 2009 and 2010 under the camp name Tan-Man, and most recently this past summer as Special Programs Coor-dinator. Here are 4 things you need to know about your new Pro-gram Director:

Sinner I am a sinner. I have failed at following and serving Jesus. I have not loved the Lord or others with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength. Redeemed. Though a sinner, I’ve been redeemed by our Lord and Savior Je-sus. My relationship with Jesus Christ holds tight the highest im-portance in my life. He comes before family, friends, and camp. Living as a redeemed child of a King I seek to serve Him in all that I say and do, however I fail (see #1). Floridian Growing up in Oviedo, Florida I never thought I’d find myself work-ing full-time in Wisconsin, let alone Northern Wisconsin. The winter has been a shock, especially the days the temperature refuses to raise past single digits, but I‘m learning how to handle the cold. Florida holds my childhood, family, and closest friends, a place I hope to return to someday. Though I will always consider Florida to be my home, I am excited to make Camp Luther a second one. Writer and Poet In the past few years I have grown to love writing and now con-sider myself to be a writer. In 2013 I released a spoken-word al-bum titled ‘honest thoughts’. Since releasing the album, I’ve had the opportunity to share poems and the love of Jesus across the US. Currently I am writing my first book, a memoir of sorts. I write at www.writtentospeak.com My favorite camp song is ‘One Name’. In it we sing, “God’s gonna move in this place; God’s gonna turn this whole world upside down.” That is my hope and prayer, not only for Camp Luther, but that God will move in the lives of all who cross the bridge. I look forward to seeing you here this summer! All things for Jesus, Tanner “Poet” Olson

Farewell to Beads After 8 years as our Food Service Manager, Becky "Beads" Eades will retire this spring. We appreciate all that Beads has done in her years of ministry with Camp Luther - her care for guests and staff, her stewardship of resources, her servant attitude and so much more. Most importantly, Bead’s faith and love for the Lord is evi-dent to everyone who knows her. "We'll miss you Beads. Congratulations and enjoy retirement." Cards and other expressions of appreciation can be sent to Camp Luther, 1889 Koubenec Rd. Three Lakes, WI 54562.

Prayers for

Camp Luther For a safe summer for all children,

parents, staff, and families.

For Beads and her husband, Ken, in their retirement.

For the Camp Luther Summer Staff as they prepare for summer.

For the Camp Luther Board of Directors in their oversight and ongoing vision for this ministry.

For the continued development of the property, facilities, and programs at Keweewaw Base Camp.

For those who bless Camp Luther through their gifts, prayers and service.

What is the

Outdoor Ministry Fund? The Outdoor Ministry Fund provides critical support for summer

camps, retreats, and family programs offered throughout the year. It is essential funding that enables Camp Luther to offer high quality programs, counselors and ministry staff, pro-gram supplies, and repairs or re-placement of equipment. The chart on the left shows how your support impacts the average summer camper experience. Unrestricted gifts to Camp Luther help our ministry meet its annual op-

erating goals. Income generated through camper registrations and cottage rentals alone do not meet annual ministry expenses. Consider supporting the Outdoor Ministry Fund through your an-nual or monthly gifts to camp. Visit campluther.com/donate today.
