ANNUAL REPORT 2014

IOWA PHARMACY ASSOCIATION FOUNDATION

LEADERSHIP MESSAGE

THANK YOU IOWA PHARMACISTS… YOUR GENEROSITY SUPPORTS THE PHARMACY PROFESSION.

2013-2014 was a positive year for the IPA Foundation. Our fundraising initiatives experienced growth. In particular, the Thomas R Temple Leadership Pharmacy Endowment Fund grew by more than $35,000, grants for practice development exceeded $90,000, a successful golf tournament resulted in three additional student scholarships, and the Inaugural IPA-F RAGBRAI team has been established to participate in The Register’s Great Annual Bicycle Ride Across Iowa from July 20-26, 2014. In addition, the IPA Foundation partnered with the APhA Foundation

on continued development of a Bowl of Hygeia Endowment Fund.

We invite you to showcase the efforts of the IPA Foundation by hanging up this calendar and celebrating our programs of charitable support all year around. We also want to acknowledge our roster of Foundation contributors. The individuals and companies listed in this Report reflect the generous nature of the pharmacy community – contributors who are making a difference for our profession.

As you review this Report we would ask you to consider how you might best help our profession by making a tax-deductible contribution in support of our great profession.

Indeed, the generosity of Iowa pharmacists is something we all greatly cherish. Thank you!

IPAF DOES RAGBRAI

The inaugural IPAF RAGBRAI team will be joining The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI). Thirteen IPA members and pharmacy family and friends rode across Iowa to inspire generosity and fulfill the aspirations of the profession of pharmacy. Pharmacy students also hosted screenings along the route to promote the profession and showcase local pharmacies. Generous members opened up their homes and provided hospitality for the team across the route.

The goals of Leadership Pharmacy are to identify emerging leaders and, through a three-day program of educational and participatory exercises, enhance the leadership skills of the participants and provide motivation to seek greater awareness and involvement in the issues confronting the profession of pharmacy. Participants have gone on to assume leadership roles in IPA, local and national organizations, and in their communities.

The conference also represents a unique partnership with the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin, and has proved to be one of the most valuable programs supported by the IPA Foundation. Additional support for the conference in 2013 came from our Premier Partners Teva Pharmaceuticals and McKesson. A list of past participants can be found on the IPA website www.iarx.org.

The Eggleston-Granberg Golf Classic is an

annual fundraising event sponsored by the IPA Foundation. All contributions for this event, over and above event costs, are made available to support student scholarships. The event is also designed as an opportunity to build relationships between pharmacists and student pharmacists for a day on the golf course. In 2013 the Eggleston-Granberg Golf Classic raised over $18,000 to support student scholarships. A special thank you to all golfers, volunteers, student sponsors and hole sponsors for their generous support.

FOUNDATION INSTITUTE“Iowa has always been a national leader in advancing patient care through the pharmacist-provided care. I think it is the responsibility of every member of the profession to contribute to the advancement of the profession, and — contributing to IPA-F is an excellent way to do this.”

Wendy Duncan, PhD, Dean, Drake University College of Pharmacy, Member of Foundation Institute

LEGACY SOCIETY“We are contributing to the IPA Foundation, because we enjoy being able to help pharmacy students in some way to make it a little easier to get their education.”

Russell E. Johnson Jr, R.Ph and Lucile Johnson, Owner Hammer Pharmacy and Hammer Medical Supply and founding member of Medicap Pharmacy Franchise Company and established a named scholarship.

NAMED SCHOLARSHIP“The Foundation plays a very important role in the ability of pharmacists to have a positive impact on patients’ health through the provision of programs, services and scholarships. Contributing to the Foundation through a named scholarship is one way to give back to the profession that has given us so much.”

Mike Pursel, BPharm, RPh, MBA, Associate Director and Head, The Patient Advocacy and Professional Relations Group, Teva Pharmaceuticals, Member of Legacy Society and established a named scholarship

MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS“Iowa Pharmacists and their family members deserve memorializing for having made contributions great and small to our association and our profession. Is there a better way of saying thanks to those who have contributed to IPA and our profession than to memorialize them by strengthening the Iowa Pharmacy Foundation?”

Bob Osterhaus, R.Ph, Owner of Osterhaus pharmacy in Maquoketa, IA and IPAF Memorial Contributor

It is the mission of the IPA Foundation to inspire generosity and fulfill the aspirations of the pharmacy profession in areas related to education, practice-based research and practice development. As such, resource development becomes a critical piece of the Foundation’s work so that Iowa pharmacy can support its goals and ambitions.

THE COLLABORATIVE EDUCATION INSTITUTE’S MISSION IS TO BE A LEADER IN PROVIDING INNOVATIVE LIVE AND WEB-BASED CONTINUING PHARMACY EDUCATION (CPE) IN THE AREAS OF PRECEPTOR DEVELOPMENT, HEALTH CARE QUALITY, IMMUNIZATION ADMINISTRATION, HEALTH COACHING, AND UP TO DATE CLINICAL, MANAGEMENT, LAW AND PATIENT SAFETY ACTIVITIES THAT ASSIST PHARMACISTS AND PHARMACY TECHNICIANS IN ADVANCING THEIR CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (CPD).

Over the past six years, the IPA Foundation, along with the University of Iowa and Drake University Colleges of Pharmacy, has provided significant support for the development of the Collaborative Education Institute (CEI). Organized to provide innovative live and web-

based continuing pharmacy education (CPE), CEI has developed and provided education for state, national and international partners. Without the Foundation’s support, CEI’s significant growth would not have been possible.

ABOUT CEIThe Collaborative Education Institute (CEI) is a partnership of the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy, Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and the Iowa Pharmacy Association. The University of Iowa College of Pharmacy brings strong research and educational capabilities, resources, nationally renowned pharmacy and health sciences faculty. Drake University College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences contributes a strong national presence in entrepreneurial leadership, preceptor development resources and renowned clinicians and faculty. The Iowa Pharmacy Association is housed with a premiere state membership-based organization that has successfully spearheaded continuing education endeavors, practice change initiatives and quality improvement programs, both in-state and nationally.

CEI launched an updated website at learning management system, www.GoToCEI.org, which enables easier searching for CPE activities, provides handouts for activities in the user’s profile, provides feedback on assessment questions related to CPE, and immediately sends information to the CPE Monitor System - a new tracking system required for use by pharmacists and pharmacy technicians receiving ACPE continuing pharmacy education credit.

THE IPA FOUNDATION MISSION

“INSPIRING GENEROSITY AND FULFILLING THE ASPIRATIONS OF THE PHARMACY PROFESSION THROUGH SUPPORT OF EDUCATION, PRACTICE-BASED RESEARCH AND PRACTICE DEVELOPMENT.”

OUR STRATEGIC PLAN

2012–2015 STRATEGIES & GOALS:1. Create and strengthen brand identity among

the pharmacy community

2. Complete the Leadership Pharmacy Endowment Campaign — $375,000 goal

3. Develop and implement a comprehensive plan for general IPAF fundraising

The IPA Foundation is a not for profit 501(c)3 charitable organization headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa. It is affiliated with the Iowa Pharmacy Association, the state professional society of pharmacists, student pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

In 2012, the IPA Foundation Board of Directors engaged in the development of a visionary strategic plan. This work resulted in the creation of a new mission statement and a series of strategies and goals for 2012-2015.

The IPA Foundation will accomplish this mission through:

• Student Pharmacist Support. Providing scholarships and facilitating professional development programs for student pharmacists in Iowa.

• Leadership Development. Facilitating programs of leadership skill development for student pharmacists and new pharmacist-practitioners.

• Continuing Professional Education. Supporting the development, in cooperation with Iowa’s two colleges of pharmacy, of CPE programs for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.

• Pharmacy Heritage. Preserving pharmacy’s rich heritage and promoting its culture to the profession and the general public.

• Professional Recognition. Spotlighting excellence in leadership and practice innovation through award programs.

• Resource Development. Obtaining resources from pharmacy-related organizations and professionals via annual fundraising programs, estate gifting, memorials, and endowed programs of scholarship, recognition, and professional development.

The IPA foundation and the Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin (PSW) Foundation continued fundraising efforts for the Leadership Legacy Endowment Campaign. With the original goal of $750,000 divided equally for each state, Iowa now has a goal of $375,000 to endow the conference into perpetuity.

Over $287,700 in pledges and payments have been made toward the endowment. The endowment campaign was created 3 years ago in recognition of the founder of Leadership Pharmacy, Tom Temple, CEO Emeritus of the Iowa Pharmacy Association.
