‘Support Our Schools Initiative’ award for itswork in primary and secondary schools.

• The state government also gave ZODML aCertificate of Partnership acknowledging it asa partner in the education sector.

MarchThe ZODML 4000 Children’s Book DriveCampaign was launched to obtain 4000children’s books for ZODML’s Oasis Libraries inlocal government primary schools.

The campaign was successful and a total of5231 books were received.

AprilZODML was a presenter at the 2014 WorldLiteracy Summit in Oxford. Its paper ‘Barriersto Learning: A Nigerian Perspective’ was well-received.

MayZODML marked the tenth anniversary of itsfirst Oasis Library by establishing an OasisLibrary at Araromi Baptist Primary School,Lagos Island.

The Library was opened on May 28 and isZODML’s sixth Oasis Library. It has a collectionof 3,110 books.

MayZODML gave 320 books to ObalendePrimary School to augment theschool’s library collection.

JulyZODML entered a relationship with the StrandBookshop in New York and was able topurchase new hardback and paperback booksfor children and students at a discount fromthe bookseller.

AugustZODML strengthened its Prison Library at the IkoyiCorrectional Centre by adding to its book collectionand donating new furniture.

Four inmates at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre whoare frequent users of ZODML’s Ikoyi Prison Librarygained admission into the National Open Universityof Nigeria.

OctoberZODML supported the StudentsHistorical Society of Nigeria,University of Lagos Branch’s ‘ProjectHope’ with a donation of 76 books.

The project is to establish a library atBales of Mercy Orphanage, Ifako.

NovemberZODML opened four new Oasis Libraries. Eachlibrary has a collection of 1,048 books. Thebeneficiary schools are:• Holy Cross Primary School• Lagos Island Local Government Primary

School• Anwar-Ul-Islam Primary School• Anwar-Ul-Islam Girls Primary School

DecemberZODML was one of the sponsors of the Lagos StateUniversal Basic Education Board’s (SUBEB) AnnualMerit Awards and donated books and school bagsto Lagos State public school pupils.

DecemberZODML applied to the International Book Bank inBaltimore, USA for books to help with itsestablishment of Oasis Libraries as well as to start aseries of literacy awareness events.

The application was successful and over 57,000books have been received.
