From Pastor John Atkinson All of us at Gateway Community Church are excited to welcome the Great Lakes Conference Annual Celebration to our church this Spring. We are also continually grateful to the conference for all the support and help we have received over the years. We hope you all will join us at the Annual Celebration. We know Ohio might be a bit of a drive for many of you, but we would be grateful to you for making the trek and supporting our little area of the conference. We have great churches in the Columbus area including Sanctuary Columbus (committed to reconciliation and interracial ministry); Faith Covenant Church, the first Covenant church in Columbus and the planter of Gateway; and Revival Covenant Church, a ministry to East Africans in the Columbus area. In Powell you will be just a couple of miles from the number one rated zoo in the country (led and developed by the famous Jack Hanna). Our events team has been brainstorming on ways we can give you a special hosting experience. So far we have vetoed egging the cars as they enter the parking lot, casino night with real money and tapping kegs in our main street area (our next door neighbors told us that is how they raise all their money at their church festivals). So we are probably just going to stick with the Garth McGrath and Jody Eidnes dunk tanks. We invite you to come join us so we can celebrate Garth's first year as well as grow, worship and learn together during the conference. Let's support the powerful ministry that is the Great Lakes Conference. Sincerely in Christ, John Atkinson Pastor: Gateway Community Church Invitation from Superintendent Garth McGrath It is my privilege to invite the 87 churches of the Great Lakes Conference to send delegates to our 2014 Conference Annual Celebration at Gateway Community Church in Powell, Ohio, on May 8-10, 2014. While focusing on the “missional” dimension of our collective commitment to being a conference of “healthy, missional churches,” we will hear stories of how churches pursuing revitalization are regaining their missional traction. We’ll be encouraged by the Kingdom advances being made through our church plants. We’ll celebrate the strides forward we made this past year in the area of leadership development. And we will give thanks for the fruit that is being produced through the outreach efforts of congregations across our conference. In the midst of our celebration, we will approve a budget that will fund the ministries that are central to our mission. We will elect wise, skilled, gifted, and spiritually mature women and men to serve on our Conference Board. We’ll have opportunities for training in both evangelism and compassion-mercy-justice ministries to help our churches go further in mission. And we will connect with other lay persons and pastors of churches in our sister churches to encourage them and to be encouraged by them. I look forward to greeting everyone at Gateway Community Church for the GLC Annual Celebration to celebrate our partnership in God’s mission field known as the Great Lakes Conference. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. …. I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. (John 10:9-10) Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. Welcome! From Pastor John Atkinson

All of us at Gateway Community Church are excited to welcome the Great Lakes Conference Annual Celebration to our church this Spring. We are also continually grateful to the conference for all the support and help we have received over the years. We hope you all will join us at the Annual Celebration. We know Ohio might be a bit of a drive for many of you, but we would be grateful to you for making the trek and supporting our little area of the conference. In Powell you will be just a couple of miles from the number one rated zoo in the country (led and developed by the famous Jack Hanna). Our events team has been brainstorming on

ways we can give you a special hosting experience. Sincerely in Christ, John Atkinson Pastor: Gateway Community Church

Invitation from Superintendent Garth McGrath

It is my privilege to invite the 87 churches of the Great Lakes Conference to send delegates to our 2014 Conference Annual Celebration at Gateway Community Church in Powell, Ohio, on May 8-10, 2014. While focusing on the “missional” dimension of our collective commitment to being a conference of “healthy, missional churches,” we will hear stories of how churches pursuing revitalization are regaining their missional traction. We’ll be encouraged by the Kingdom advances being made through our church plants. We’ll celebrate the strides forward we made this past year in the area

of leadership development.

Evangelism- Alex Rahill, Senior Pastor, Life Church, Canton, MI

We’re called to “go and make disciples.” We all want to obey Jesus’ great command to his followers, but most of us don’t. Why is that? Is it fear? Confusion? Making disciples begins with evangelism. Join us as we explore some practical things we can do to reach out and share our faith with people all around us who are far from God.

Compassion, Mercy, Justice, and Evangelism: How to do holistic, life-changing ministry in places where needs are high– Semmeal Thomas, Senior Pastor, City Covenant Church, Detroit, MI

This workshop will outline the crucial steps that churches need to take in order to do holistic ministry that meets both real spiritual needs AND real physical needs for food, shelter, transportation and employment. The workshop will be particularly helpful to churches situated in communities or locations that suffer from higher than average levels of pov-erty. However, it will also be helpful to more highly resourced churches who want to partner with a church in an under-resourced community. The workshop will cover “tools for understanding your community,” “how to grow partnerships with agencies and other churches for effective ministry,” and “how to connect compassion ministries with intentional, life-changing evangelism.”

LEGO PROJECT

What is it about Lego that is so engaging? Put a few

Legos in someone’s hand and they will snap the

bricks together. Give them a few more bricks and

next thing you know they have built something.

God’s word is also very engaging and has a lot to

say about crea on and building. The GLC has com-

bined Lego with God’s word into the Lego Project.

While at the Annual Celebra on take a look at our

Lego City. It is our hope that your church will con-

sider using the Lego Project as an outreach into its

community.

On a prac cal note the Lego Project could use

some more Lego bricks and kits. It would be great if

each delegate brought a li le Lego– new or used

(but it needs to be real Lego). If you don’t want to

go to the trouble of finding Lego but would like to

help, you may bring a dona on toward recently

purchased Lego kits.
