COMPLEXITY INSTITUTE & FRANCISCO VARELA PROJECT

The Complexity Institute is an Association which principal purpose is to spread the culture of complexity and ethics among people and organizations in creating innovative skills. Launched in 2013 by the Complexity Institute and Le mie Terre d’Italia Association together, the Francisco Varela Project aims to promote the study and application of the fundamentals of complexity theory to social relations, applying the thought of Francisco Varela: the circularity of interpretations, the emergence of forms, the co-determination of the facts, the enactive learning approach and the know-how of ethics. The Francisco Varela Project is an integrated system of training and research aimed at improving personal practices - thoughts, emotions and actions - in all spheres of life, to create a greater awareness and a stronger sense of self- responsibility for a higher level of well-being and greater personal and community resilience. With the Francisco Varela Project, the Institute intends to propagate complexity in organizations as a new paradigm for interpreting the dynamics of the relationships.




2nd CMSS 2014 – A BRIEF PRESENTATION

At Spoleto, in the green hills of Umbria, in an old mansion dedicated to beauty, Complexity Institute offers a working holiday of higher education on "Generative Leadership in complex contexts” aimed at managers, scholars and professionals.

Complexity Management is a new and powerful systemic point of view of business relationships based on the awareness of the interdependence of managerial actions and the emergence of bottom-up business phenomena. The School adopts an innovative educational approach of "intensive co-teaching and co-learning" on Models, Practices and Cases of Complexity Management.

A prestigious team of teachers and experts provides participants with the acquisition of a "Complexity Skills Set" capable of increasing their resilience and managing effectively the changes in areas of high uncertainty.

FACULTY TEAM APPROACH

A prestigious team for a generative learning circle The team of teachers and experts working in the 2nd Complexity Management Summer School adopts a teaching approach based on the process of learning generated by the proximity and the circularity of the relationships among all participants. The method of generative dialogues with the participants and the co-teaching of the team facilitate the emergence of new ideas and new behavior related to the study of complexity theory, its practices and its recurrent cases. To encourage the development of this generative processes, teachers and experts will be involved in various activities inside and outside the classroom, in order to facilitate the integration of different working approaches and the consolidation of new points of view on the topics covered.

His major research areas are: Operations, Innovations and Complexity Management. It was Dean of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Udine and the Chairman of the National Commission for the reorganization of Technical and Scientific Education.

Lives and works in Switzerland. Professor at the SUPSI University, entrepreneur and consultant. He founded in 1996 the AFG Management Consulting, based in the Canton of Ticino. In 2009 he founded the Alice Allison, one of the top European producers of coffee capsules compatible with Nespresso. Author of numerous essays on complexity, such as “Ant, empires and brains", Ed. Boringhieri.








Partners of Newton Management Innovation (Sole 24 Ore Group), professor of economics and business management at ISIA Design Pordenone and Leadership and Corporate Strategy at The Executive MBA and Master HR organized by the Business School of Il Sole 24 Ore. Author of numerous publications in Italy and abroad, including "Competing in Complexity" (ETAS, 2008).

Professor of Business Management and Corporate Communication at the Department of Business Administration (DEA) at D'Annunzio University, Pescara. Complexity Management Advisor, he is co-founder of Complexity Institute. Author of numerous scientific publications in Italy and abroad, among which: “Emerging Organization”, 2012

Scientific Director of the "Complexity Education Project“ at Sapienza University of Rome and curator of "Notebooks of Complexity“, Guaraldi Ed. He has taught Multimedia Design and E-Learning in various Italian universities and NSU in Miami (USA) and has been Editorial Director at the LABeL La Sapienza - Rome. Author of numerous essays for magazines such as: Systemic Reflections, Bricks, Jelks and Agenda Digitale.eu.

President and Scientific Director of the Complexity Institute. Founder and coordinator of the Francisco Varela Project. Her research, teaching and consulting is focused on the analysis and application of the basic principles of Complexity Theory and Ethics in the process of co-learning and decision making in social organizations. Author of numerous national and international scientific papers and books.








CLAUDIO BERGAMINI - Founder & CEO of Imola Informatica. Fuonder of MokaByte, Sensible Logic & Antreem. For over twenty years consultant of Knowledge Working (IT, Research, IT departments in the finance area and utilities).

SERGIO GALBIATI - Since May 2013, he is Co-CEO & Board President of Lfoundry. He graduated in physics at the University of Milan, he worked in the semiconductor industry since 1977. From 2006 to 2010 he was President of Confindustria L'Aquila. Since April of 2010 to April of 2013 he worked as Country Manager of Micron Technology Italy.

FERNANDO GIANCOTTI Military pilot, currently General of the Air Force and Commander of the Air Force Academy, is the author of essays and articles on leadership research, published in the United States, and the book "Agile Leadership in complexity." He teaches Strategic Leadership in military educational institutions, with many interventions in the managerial world and universities.








ALESSANDRO ROVETTA - MNB Associates Ltd, London Life & Business Coach - HR development consultant, focuses its intervention in the field of soft skills and skills in team work. Expert in Public Speaking, he conducts training and coaching for professional speakers.

MASSIMO MERCATI - Group Managing Director Aboca-Planta Medica. He has designed and managed the project Apoteca Nature for Aboca SpA. For several years he has been carrying out the project Aboca International Lectures on Nature and Human Ecology to investigate, with the help of scientists and philosophers, the relationship between man and nature and the implications of ecology in economic and management issues.

ENRICO REBOSCIO - Philosopher of Science, expert in start-ups and keen of complex systems. Founder and President of DotVocal Srl, a company founded in 2004 specialized in speech recognition and synthesis technologies. Professional Sommeliers. Owner and manager of different restaurants in the historic center of Genoa.

ANTONELLA SBRILLI - Professor of Contemporary Art History at the University La Sapienza of Rome. She deals with art, literature and game, and has founded the blog: www.diconodioggi.it, finalist of the Italian Macchianera Awards 2013; she curates the pages of cultural games of the Italian newspaper "Pagina99."
