DOCUMENTATIONAND CAREER PLANNING
(1 month)
At the conclusion of Stage 2 of the program, trainees
will reconvene in Nairobi to reflect on their experiences.Trainees will work as a team to produce a holistic reporton AWFs operations and challenges, and recommendnew ideas/strategies/best practices for AWFs futurework. This final report will allow CMTP participantsto leave a lasting impact not only on AWF, but onconservation as it is practiced in the context of Africa.
This period will also be key in career planning forparticipants. If participants have not already identifiedlong-term opportunities within AWF, this period willprovide time to consult with AWFs human resources andprogram leadership to plot their course. Having invested
two years in each participant, AWF will do its best tofind meaningful positions. However, should an immediateopportunity within AWF not exist, AWF will assistparticipants by leveraging staff professional networks tohelp identify outside opportunities. CMTP graduates willreceive special consideration for employment with AWFthroughout their careers.
The CMTP allows conservation professionals to
help AWF protect Africas wildlife and wild lands.
In northern Kenya, an AWF conservation managementtrainee worked directly with local Maasai to implement landpolicy issues.

The Conservation Management
Training Program is likely
unparalleled in the conservation
sector. Far from a traditional
training program, I have found
that CMTP has both breadth and
depthbreadth in the sense that
I have had the opportunity to
learn holistically about operations
and engage with staff across the
organization, and depth in the
sense that I have been provided
with opportunities to engage
proactively in and meaningfullycontribute to activities.
