REPORT OF THE PRESIDENT It is indeed an honor to present my final President’s Report to the membership of the Tennessee Section. Since our last Annual Meeting, I am pleased to report that the Tennessee Section is strong on many fronts, despite a business climate that remains challenging. Our game and our industry are in dire need of an infusion of new golfers, and we need to find ways to encourage our existing golfers to find renewal and be re-energized with the upcoming 2014 golf season and be catalysts to motivate them to play more rounds and spend time at our facilities. As the new season approaches, I am very optimistic that the PGA Members and Apprentices in our Section are well positioned to continue to rebuild our game, find new ways to engage golfers, and to make golf relevant and exciting to golfers who join our sport for generations to come. At each and every one of our facilities, TPGA Professionals are the individuals who have the greatest opportunity this season to positively influence the health and well-being of our clubs and courses and to make these operations more profitable for our owners and employers. In the past year, we have collectively had many successes. First and foremost, our financial position is strong. Our investment fund balance has grown to nearly $1.2 million dollars. Having been managed expertly by Kimber Barton of Brentwood Financial and Executive Director Jeff Abbot, we have been able to allocate in 2013 over $50k from this fund directly member benefits. In addition, our staff under Jeff’s leadership in 2013 generated over $375k in Sponsorship revenue under extremely difficult conditions. One of the most important and meaningful things a TPGA Member or Apprentice can do is to support our sponsors whenever and wherever possible, and take the time to thank them at every opportunity for their generous support of the Tennessee Section. Showing our Sponsors a return for their investment in us will develop these coveted relationships into partnerships that can last for years to come. Our Committees continue to drive the business and direction of our Section. We are fortunate to have passionate and engaged Golf Professionals on our Committees, who are chaired by some of our brightest leaders. I would like to recognize the following Committees and their Chairmen for their service this past year:

Assistant’s Committee - Sean Rice, PGA (The Honors Course) Awards Committee – Bryan Combiths, PGA (Five Oaks Golf & CC) Education Committee – Hal Loflin, PGA (Smyrna Municipal GC) Employment and Club Relations Committee – John Bridgeman, PGA (Brentwood CC) Growth of the Game Committee – Jim Vernon, PGA (Hermitage GC) Junior Golf Committee – Jeff Craig, PGA (Windstone GC) Tournament Committee – Bruce Etter, PGA (Chattanooga G&CC) Distinguished Career Award Committee – Joe Taggert, PGA (Golf House Tennessee) Handicap Committee – Hal Loflin, PGA (Smyrna Municipal GC) / Matt O’Dell, PGA (Old Natchez CC)

In particular, I would like to recognize the work of Bryan Combiths and the Awards Committee, and congratulate PGA Professional Jim Vernon as the Tennessee Section 2013 Golf Professional of the Year. I am looking forward to recognizing all of our award winners who will be announced at our Club Car Awards Luncheon. Congratulations to the Junior Golf Committee and Chairman Jeff Craig for their work in 2013, successfully implementing an inaugural season for our PGA Junior Golf League. For his outstanding effort, Jeff was presented the 2013 PGA JGL Captain of the Year Award from PGA of America Honorary President Allen Wronowski at this year’s PGA Merchandise Show. Tournament Chairman Bruce Etter and the Members of the Tournament Committee implemented a great schedule in 2013 and we anticipate another great year in 2014. I would like to congratulate our 2013 Section Champion Kelvin Burgin, of the Bear Trace at Cumberland Mountain. Kelvin’s three round total of 201 (-6 under par) earned a spot in the 2014 Professional National Championship in Myrtle Beach, SC and a place in the field of the upcoming 2014 PGA Tour Fed Ex St. Jude Classic at the TPC Southwind in Memphis this June 5-8. Although our TPGA Cup Team was narrowly defeated by the TGA Amateur Team and TGA Captain Mike Jenkins 17 – 15 in October at Stonehenge GC, the 46th Annual Cup Matches were a resounding success. I congratulate our Team for representing the

6

Tennessee Section in great fashion. I would like to commend TPGA Captain Hunt Gilliland for his engagement and enthusiasm with this event and for rejuvenating the Cup Matches and reminding us of their importance and tradition. I would also like to recognize Warren Huddleston, PGA and his Team at Stonehenge for being perfect hosts. We are looking to returning to Stonehenge GC on October 18-19 of this year to reclaim the John Deal Cup! On behalf of your Officers and Board, know that we are committed to funding both the Tennessee Challenge Cup Matches and the Tennessee vs. Georgia Assistant’s Cup Matches into the foreseeable future. These events speak to the rich history of the Tennessee Section and should retain their significance as we move forward. Our players should not have to pay to participate in these events and both should be a Sponsorship priority for our Section. Congratulations to our own Tennessee Golf Association as we celebrate the TGA’s Centennial Anniversary in 2014! I hope every TPGA Member and Apprentice will make the effort to attend one of the 6 Gala Dinners being held across Tennessee between March and June of this year. What a significant milestone for Partners in the TGA! I had the opportunity to attend the 97th Annual Meeting of the PGA of America in San Diego in November hosted by the Southern California Section. I was joined by Vice President Ken Crowder, Secretary Johnny Bridgeman, Honorary President Hunt Gilliland, West TN Chapter Director Paul Reid, Knoxville Chapter Director Scott Moran, TGF President Dick Horton, and our Executive Director Jeff Abbot. Significant news from the meeting included President Ted Bishop’s announcement of both increased ADP Funding to the Sections and the PGA Tour’s increased Section sponsorship support. Two resolutions were brought before the Delegation. The first we supported and was passed in regard to Apprentice registration and eligibility. Individuals now may now register in the PGA Professional Golf Management Program as Apprentice Teaching Professionals (B-6) at a PGA Recognized Indoor Facility under the supervision of a PGA Member Director of Instruction (A-14). The second resolution failed despite our support, was a proposal to allow modification of Section dues for individuals who were billed on May 1st in one Section, but transferred to another Section prior to the start of the new fiscal year. The Tennessee Section was recognized with the Herb Graffis Growth of the Game Award, which I was honored to receive on behalf of our Membership. A video was shown highlighting the cooperative spirit and culture we have at Golf House Tennessee and through the efforts of our 500 PGA Professionals. I would like to personally thank Growth of the Game Chairman Jim Vernon and our Junior Golf Chairman Jeff Craig for their efforts and contributions in our recognition of the Herb Graffis Award. I would like to thank Dick Horton for joining us in San Diego. As we all know, his efforts as our former Executive Director and as President of the Tennessee Golf Foundation were instrumental to our Section winning this prestigious Award. 2014 is an election year at both a National and Tennessee Section level. At the 98th PGA Annual Meeting in Indianapolis, the Delegates will select our next PGA Secretary from among 3 candidates, Michael Haywood, PGA from the Southwest Section, Russ Libby, PGA from the North Florida Section, and Suzy Whaley, PGA from the Connecticut Section. Our TPGA Officers will be vetting these candidates over the coming months and input from TPGA Members and Apprentices is welcomed as we decide on placing the Tennessee Section’s support. It is hard to imagine the Tennessee Section in a healthier state or with a brighter future as evidenced by the 3 candidates we have running for the Office of Secretary in 2014. I thank and congratulate PGA Professionals Mark Brown, from Three Ridges GC, Lamar Mills from Cleveland CC, and Jim Vernon, from Hermitage GC for their commitment in running for Section office. Regardless of the election outcome, these Professionals are some of our brightest leaders. I have personally worked with them on our Board. They possess the highest integrity, leadership skills, and passion for the Tennessee Section and I wish each of them well in our upcoming election. I have been honored to serve as your President for the past 3 years, and look forward to continuing to serve as your Honorary President for the next two years. The Tennessee Section’s best years are still ahead of us. The wisdom of the TPGA Membership has afforded us a great leader in President-elect Ken Crowder. I am anxious to serve Ken and learn from his passion and wisdom as he leads our Section. John Bridgeman is positioned to be a memorable Vice President. His attention to detail, his discernment, and his leadership will serve us well. Congratulations to Hunt Gilliland, who is concluding 10 years on the TPGA Board, most recently as our Honorary President, mixed in with a two year term as our District III Director. Somehow thank you is not enough for your service to the Tennessee Section. Well done……

7

Our TPGA Staff remains the finest in the land of 41 Sections. Special thanks to Assistant Tournament Director Adam Greeno, Tournament Director David Olinger, and Director of Operations, Graham Honeycutt, PGA for their service to the Members and Apprentices of the Tennessee Section. As I said in San Diego, their service and dedication to us is unparalleled. They touch every Committee, every Sponsor, and every aspect of our business. In addition, these gentlemen excel at making Officers look good, often much better than we are. Our Executive Director Jeff Abbot is truly a superstar! Only Jeff could have followed a legend like Dick Horton and performed so successfully. Jeff has ensured that our Section is on solid financial ground. His Team has increased participation and engagement among our Membership across our meeting and event calendar, and he has mentored the Staff we are fortunate to have. Jeff’s future with the Tennessee Section and the PGA of America is bright. Finally, for the future growth and success of the Tennessee Section, I feel the greatest thing we can do aside from “Growing the Game” is strengthening our Chapters. We need Chapter leaders to recruit future leaders from within. If you as a PGA Professional have ever considered serving your Chapter or the Tennessee Section, I encourage you to do it! By making our Chapters strong, we will be better able to deliver education and events to every TPGA member and increase the engagement of the same. The old line is “what you get out of your Association is directly proportional to what you put into it”. That line is not true. Every person I know that has served and who has reflected on their tenure has stated that he/she has received much more than they ever dreamed…….that is true! Sincerely, Neil Collins, PGA President, [email protected]

REPORT OF THE VICE PRESIDENT I am happy to report the financial condition of our Section remains strong. Below you will find a 2013 Financial Summary, and our year-end financial statements through December 31, 2013 as prepared by PGA Headquarters are included in Appendix (B). As you will see in our financial summary, the Section maintains three separate funds: Operating, Tournament and Endowment. The Operating Fund is a balanced “break even” budget. The Tournament Fund was budgeted to have a $1,500 surplus. The Endowment fund is used to fund member benefits (4.75% of our Investment Fund) as well as any unique “one time” expenses for the given year.

For the year ended 2013, I am pleased to report that the Operating Fund which we have the most direct control had a $33,625 favorable balance. This surplus was primarily due to better than expected sponsorship revenue and an increase in handicap

revenue. The Tournament Fund finished the year with a $3,822 surplus. The Endowment Fund is structured to average 8% annual growth and the Section commits 4.75% of the previous year end balance toward member benefits, regardless of the endowment

fund’s performance. The fund was up 14.6% for the year net of investment fees. The year-end balance remains strong at

$1,177,309. The Endowment Fund yielded an overall surplus of $95,154 for 2013, when you combine investment performance, member benefit expenses and unique “one-time” endowment expenses. We work closely with our financial advisors at Brentwood

Financial and hope to continue our positive growth in 2014. Overall, the Section had a $112,389 positive surplus when you combine the Operating, Tournament, Endowment Funds and incorporate depreciation expense, prior year projects and disposal of equipment. The vast majority of this surplus is due to the positive performance of the Investment Fund. If you add Chapter Net

Income to this total it yields a Consolidated Net Income Surplus of $140,872. 2013 marks the third year the Tennessee Section has utilized the PGA of America’s “Admin” Program. The Admin Program offers accounting and administrative services from PGA headquarters in Palm Beach Gardens, FL. The Section still manages and controls all day-to-day functions; however several accounting and membership responsibilities are now administered by PGA headquarters. In 2012, PGA headquarters upgraded their accounting program to Oracle Fusion. This upgrade caused delays with check processing and reporting errors for 1099s. We are pleased to report several changes were made at headquarters this year, including a new CFO, and vast improvement has been made in this area. The Section plans to stay committed to the Admin Program for the foreseeable future. The Section office, as always, will continue to serve as your first point of contact for any questions concerning the PGA and your membership. The Officers and Board evaluate the need for a dues increase on a year to year basis. I am pleased to report there will not be a dues increase in 2014. At the PGA Annual Meeting in November 2013, Ted Bishop announced a substantial increase to ADP funding thanks to the PGA of America’s new NBC broadcast partnership for the Ryder Cup and PGA Championship. He also announced the PGA Tour will double its Section sponsorship in 2014. These financial additions, along with the hard work of our staff securing sponsorships, put our Section in a favorable financial position and I do not foresee any dues increases in the near future. The Tennessee Section has the third lowest dues in the country because of our Handicap program and our supporting sponsors. I cannot stress enough the importance of these programs as they make up over 50% of our annual revenue. If you are currently not participating in the Handicap Program, please consider doing so. If you need additional information regarding these programs, I encourage you to contact the Section office. In addition, please take every opportunity to thank our sponsors for their continued support and offer them as much business as you are able. A simple thank you note goes a long way! As always, if you would like more detailed financial statements or if you have any questions about these reports, please contact me or Executive Director Jeff Abbot. We would both be happy to answer your questions and/or send you additional information. Respectfully submitted, Ken Crowder, PGA Vice President/Secretary, [email protected]

REPORT OF THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR I am excited for the upcoming 2014 season, as there are several new developments on the Section and National level. Having recently attended the 98th PGA Annual Meeting in San Diego with your Section Officers and Chapter Directors, as well as the PGA Merchandise Show last month, there are some monumental changes taking place. PGA President Ted Bishop and CEO Pete Bevacqua announced significant increases in national funding for the Sections which will significantly improve our operation going forward. Bevacqua made several key hires in 2013 and it is paying dividends through the PGA’s new broadcast deal with NBC and several new national patron partners. In addition to the excitement of these positive changes for 2014, I am very proud of our accomplishments in 2013. To start the year, we had another record turnout of over 240 PGA members attend the TPGA Annual Meeting/Spring Seminar, and over 100 members attend the Teaching and Coaching Summit. Thanks to the efforts of Jeffrie Hunter, PGA and Graham Honeycutt, PGA we conducted a very successful inaugural Business Summit with over 40 attendees. The Tournament Season was headlined by event participation up 12% and a record turnout of 74 PGA Professionals competing in the Section Championship at Westhaven Golf Club. Sponsorships saw a 4% increase in cash support. We hosted an amazing travel pro-am to Bandon Dunes and the UT-Oregon football game. And last, but not least, the Section won the prestigious 2013 PGA of America Herb Graffis Growth of the Game Award. Financially the Section had another solid year, as reported above in the Vice President’s Report. The General Fund (+$33,625) and Tournament Fund (+$3,822) yielded positive net income, and the Investment Fund grew nearly 15% and maintains a $1,177,309 yearend balance. Our section has experienced financial stability and low dues (3rd lowest in the country) primarily because of your commitment to the handicap program and our sponsors. I cannot stress enough the importance of these areas as they make up over 50% of our operating revenue. The TPGA led the charge in 2013, organizing our allied golf associations to complete our state golf economic impact study. The study revealed Tennessee’s golf industry generated a total economic impact of $1.9 billion, supporting over 22,500 jobs with $564 million of wage income. The report was launched publicly in April, during our first ever Tennessee Golf Day at the State Capitol building in Nashville. We are blessed to have outstanding Section Leadership. President Neil Collins, Vice President Ken Crowder, Secretary Johnny Bridgeman and Honorary President Hunt Gilliland spend numerous hours a month attending conference calls, Section Meetings and National Conferences. Their commitment to the Section is unparalleled. It is hard to believe Neil’s three year term as President and Hunt’s ten year tenure on the Board will end on February 24. I am in awe at the time and commitment these two gentlemen have given to the PGA over the years. They are vastly responsible for all of the success our Section has earned. I am honored to have served them, and even more honored to call them my friends! I would also like to thank all of our current and outgoing Board Members and Committee Chairs who contributed generously of their time to better our Association. The direction of our Section is member driven. Our Committees are extremely active and engaged. I encourage all of our PGA members to seek out one of our Section leaders with any issue they are facing, so we can do our best to serve you. I am also very proud of the efforts of our staff. Tournament Director David Olinger, Director of Operations Graham Honeycutt and Assistant Tournament Director Adam Greeno did an outstanding job managing our membership, employment issues, events, sponsorships and growth of the game initiatives. There are many opportunities which will help further your careers if you are willing to get involved. Please contact me, your Section or Chapter officers if you are interested in learning more about serving on a committee or running for office. I look forward to serving you in 2014! Respectfully submitted, Jeff Abbot Executive Director, [email protected]

REPORT OF THE PGA DISTRICT 3 DIRECTOR As I sit down to write this report I have just returned from the 2014 Merchandise Show in Orlando. What an exciting event it is, not only for seeing all the new products and equipment it also allows you to run into old friends and make new ones. Even though it was busy as always I was able to walk around and network with golf professionals from all over this great land. I attended a mentors luncheon with some PGM students and PGA apprentices and was very excited to see such enthusiasm in our young soon to be professionals. As always the award ceremony was something special and please join with me in congratulating all the winners (especially the Tennessee Section for winning the Herb Graffis Award). If you were not able to attend the show this year be sure to make plans to attend in the future. I would now like to give you some of the highlights from 2013: * Ted Bishop, Derek Sprague and Paul Levy are elected as the new PGA officers. Introduction of the new CEO, Pete Bevacqua and new COO, Darrell Crall (Nov 11, 2012) * Committee chairs gather in Franklin, IN to get a jump start on the new committee process led by Pres. Bishop (Nov 2012) Select committee chairs then presented at the Board planning session in March as to what they were working on, since they play a large role in the Board decision making process. * In Dec 2013 Ted Bishop, on the TODAY show officially introduces Tom Watson as the 2014 United States Ryder Cup Team Captain. * The 13th PGA Teaching and Coaching Summit was held during the week of the Merchandise show. * Davis Love III officially opens the 2013 PGA Merchandise show, promoting PGA junior league golf. * 2012 Awards were given at the 2013 Merchandise show. * The spring Leadership Conference was held along with a short district meeting afterwards (my first) * At the Senior PGA Championship presented by Kitchen Aid, Kohki Odoki, was the first Asian player to win a senior major championship. * Rod Perry became the first left hander to win the PNC in Sunriver, OR * Jason Dufner wins the 95th PGA at Oak Hill CC in Rochester, NY. * Ted Bishop and Pete Bevacqua hold a press conference along with New York Governor Andrew Cuomo to announce that the 2019 PGA Championship and the 2024 Ryder Cup would be held at Bethpage Black. * United States retains the PGA Cup over Great Britain and Ireland. * Adam Scott wins PGA Grand Slam in Bermuda. * Frank Bensel wins PGA Assistant Championship for a record tying third time. * Ted Bishop and Tim Finchem held a news conference to announce a new joint initiative * Annika Sorenstam announced as the first internationally born golfer to be named PGA First Lady of Golf. * Annual Meeting was in San Diego, CA and it was announced that the ADP funding was being increased to the point it will double by 2018. The biggest thing for me is to have the honor and privilege to serve the three best sections in the PGA and to have so many great golf professionals as friends. Thank you and I promise everything I do I will keep you the member foremost in my mind. If I can do anything or answer any question please call or e-mail me. REPORT OF THE PGA EMPLOYMENT SERVICES CONSULTANT 2014 PGA Compensation Survey I ask each of you to please make sure that you and all members of your professional staff complete the 2014 PGA Compensation Survey now available on PGALinks. The deadline for participating is March 23, 2014. The Section participation rate was down in 2013 following the tremendous success of 2012 as 72% of the Tennessee membership completed the survey. Your participation will provide both you and your fellow PGA professionals with accurate compensation information when sought for negotiations,

13

job searches, and budgeting. The data will also assist those of us who work with employers on your behalf in our efforts to upgrade compensation and benefits for all PGA positions. All individual responses are completely confidential, so please take a few minutes and complete the survey. PGA members who complete the survey will receive 2 MSR credits.

2014 PGA Employment Calendar (SEE APPENDIX A) The 2014 Tennessee PGA Employment Calendar has been created to assist you in planning and scheduling your employment goals and displaying value to your employer.

Tennessee PGA Section Employment Committee The Tennessee PGA Employment and Club Relations Committee has set several measurable goals for 2014 to insure that members are making the necessary efforts in displaying your value to your employer, and to take advantage of opportunities to improve your skills for better employment advances: • Maintain Employment and Club Relations Committee • Continue to study and convert non-PGA facilities to increase penetration rate • Research viability of section wide mentorship program with Education Committee • Work with Education Committee to conduct a General Manager Business Summit to identify and increase skills for those

members interested in Golf Operations Management • Exceed national average of PerformanceTrak participation and train members to use the reporting as a valuable tool to their

employers • Increase awareness of effective communication with employer • Make the members aware of the many and enhanced tools that PGA Employment provides • 2014 PGA Compensation Survey to be completed by 70% of membership The golf industry and the traditions have evolved like no other time in history. The PGA professional must realize that they must continue to improve and evolve with the changes to be relevant. I encourage each of you to challenge yourself to become a better and a more diversified professional. Employment will continue to be more competitive in the future and only the best will survive. I am available to assist you in a variety of ways: career counseling, job search strategies, resume critiquing, negotiating, networking, communicating, maximizing your use of Careerlinks and PGA Jobfinder, and utilizing all the resources available to you from the PGA. We are very proud of the leadership our Professionals have shown as Board Members, Committee Chairs, and their great accomplishments on the golf course. I am very appreciative of the efforts our Chapter Pro Am committee made in rescheduling events that were rained out and I am thankful we have gracious clubs who are were also willing to reschedule. We held our 4th Partners’ Circle Day, a season ending event, at The Farm, Rocky Face, Georgia where we had a record number or qualifying players. As for professional events, we hosted four Section events, the Ira Templeton Chattanooga Open at Creeks

14

Bend, the Senior Section Championship, the Pro-Pro Championship, and the Honors/ Council Fire Pro-Am. We also hosted three state amateur events, the Junior Amateur Championship at Cleveland C.C., the Women’s Four-Ball Championship at Council Fire and the Men’s State Amateur Championship at Chattanooga G&CC. As for 2014, we look forward to hosting the TPGA Pro-Assistant Championship at the Bear Trace @ Harrison Bay and on the amateur side the Mid-Am Championship at The Honors Course. We also want to thank Moccasin Bend GC for hosting our 2013 Chapter Championship. The Chattanooga Chapter would like to thank these area clubs for opening their facility for these events. The Chapter, once again, partnered with the Chattanooga Lookouts to present a “Golf Night” with the Chattanooga Lookouts (AA

Minor League baseball). The event gave the Chapter the opportunity to promote golf by setting up two hitting bays, allowing fans of all ages to take a few swings and get free instruction, and setting up information booths promoting Play Golf America, our Pro-Am Series, and area clubs. During the game, we were able to have additional promotions on the big screen scoreboard, held a closest to the hole contest on the field, and gave away promotional gifts. Lastly, the Chapter would like to recognize our 2013 Chapter Award winners. To recognize all the accomplishments of our Chapter professionals, we held an Awards/Christmas Banquet at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse. The event was well attended and our hopes would be that this will become an annual event. Congratulations to all of our 2013 winners:

REPORT OF THE KNOXVILLE CHAPTER DIRECTOR

OFFICERS

Scott Moran- Knoxville Chapter President Byron Williams- Knoxville Chapter Vice President

Scott Wilson- Knoxville Chapter Secretary

The 2013 golf season produced good results for Knoxville area golfers despite early rain and snow. The Priority Brokers Pro-Am series continued to grow by a number of participants as well as number of courses hosting an event. For 2013, 32 events returned a total approaching $15,000 paid to participating Knox PGA Professionals. The success of the revitalized Pro-Am series in all TN Chapters only contributes to Growth of the Game. Last year the Knox PGA Chapter supported the TGF with their efforts to start a “Little Course” at Beverly Park located in north Knoxville. This par 3 course, located very close to 20 elementary and middle schools, allowed us to make a huge impact in the area by encouraging juniors to try the game of golf. George Hall, PGA, was hired to operate the par 3, conduct the Priority Brokers Pro-Am Series and assist TGF Regional Director Chad Anderson with junior programs. Additionally an emphasis on Beverly Park’s

15

course conditions were addressed with the help of Chris Hartwiger, USGA Sr. Agronomist, and golf course architect Bill Bergin. Successful short term goals in 2013 resulted in eliminating clover/weeds on tee boxes/fairways/approaches as well as improved putting surfaces. For 2014 the Priority Brokers Pro-Am season will see an increase in the number of total events and with “fingers crossed” favorable weather resulting in a continued increase in rounds played by both amateurs and professionals. Growth of the Game initiatives will continue to be the emphasis of the Knox PGA Chapter with our participation in the Knoxville Women’s Expo and multiple opportunities for juniors to shine with the Drive, Chip, and Putt challenge and the WEB.com’s News Sentinel Open Youth Clinic. Finally Beverly Park Par 3 will implement a long term improvement plan beginning with the construction of a practice range, the leveling of tee boxes with installation of mats, and a long overdue upgrade to putting surfaces. The Knoxville Chapter awards for 2013 are as follows:

• Golf Professional of the Year – Jerry Willams of Oak Ridge Country Club

• Assistant of the Year – Adam Jackson of Gettysvue Golf & Polo Club

• Teacher of the Year – Erick Rebmann of Egwani Golf Course

• Junior Golf Award – George Hall of Beverly Park Par 3

• Merchandising Award (Public) – Glenn Hudson of Dicks Sporting Goods

• Merchandising Award (Private) – Don Jones of Cherokee Country Club

• Horton Smith Award – Scott Moran of Fox Den Country Club

• Bill Strausbaugh Award – Chris Dibble of Holston Hills Country Club

PRO-AMS/PARTNERS CIRCLE 2013 The Tri-Cities Chapter Pro-Am Partners Circle continues to be a success in growing the game of golf in our region. The weather played a major factor in the Pro-Am Series, but despite the rain, players showed up to play. In 2013 there were 31 regular Pro-Ams and 4 Winter Series Pro-Ams that created 5,000 rounds of golf for the area and had over 850 unique players. The average number of players per Pro-Am was 152. There were 118 players that earned enough points to be invited to play in the end of the season Invitational Pro-Am and dinner. GROWTH OF THE GAME Our first attempt at setting up Golfzilla was a huge success. Golfzilla was setup at Fun Fest in Kingsport, TN for the opening Mardi-Gras and then again at Kids Fest. After about 600 young people came through to hit balls at Golfzilla he was still standing tall at the end of the day, however the pros were dragging in the 90+ degree temperatures. The Tri-Cities completed its first year of the PGA Jr. League. There were four facilities that participated and over 50 juniors between the four teams. FIRST TEE OF THE TRI-CITIES The First Tee of Tri-Cities was flat compared to last year. In 2013, 290 juniors reaped the benefits of The First Tee Core Values and Life Lessons curriculum. Several programs were full with a wait list. There were two new golf courses added to the schedule that offered programming, bringing the total of programming facilities to 7. In 2014, The First Tee of Tri-Cities will expand its staff by adding a full time Program Director which will allow it to grow programming and outreach opportunities.

The Junior Series tournaments averaged 60 players per event and 67 players qualified to play in the end-of-season Tri-Cities Junior Amateur Championship at The Virginian Golf Club. There were 175 local players that competed in both the Junior Series and TGA Junior Tour during the summer tournaments and accounted for over 1,000 rounds of golf. This was the third year of the Travel Golf League, which is a program to help prepare high school players for summer competition. There were 25 juniors competing in the league which took place in the spring and traveled to 6 courses to play matches. Also in the spring we had play for the Tennessee Middle School Golf Association. There were 21 local middle schools that participated in the regular and post season in the E3/E4 districts. TRI-CITIES AMATEUR TOUR/CUP MATCHES The Amateurs were able to retain the Tri-Cities Cup Match trophy. It was a close match, but in the end, the Amateurs held on. The Cup Match teams were represented by the top players on the Tri-Cities Amateur Tour and the top Professional from the Pro-Am Series. The Cup Matches were a one-day Ryder Cup style format where the players compete in Four-Ball and Single matches. The Tri-Cities Chapter is excited about this upcoming year; we have big plans to growth the game and to offer our communities the best golfing experience possible. Our junior programs look very promising and hopefully rewarding to our junior golfers.

REPORT OF THE WEST TENNESSEE CHAPTER DIRECTOR

Officers Paul Reid – President

Drew Cain – Vice President Jennifer Hudson – Secretary/Treasurer

By all accounts 2013 was a successful year for the West TN PGA Chapter. It was an inaugural year for our first Girls Golf Fair and the West TN PGA Junior Golf League as well as the second season for our West TN PGA Pro-Am Series, and Area Wide Junior Clinic. There was quite a lot of movement within the Chapter for PGA members and apprentices taking new positions. Brian Wood and Drew Hill went to Windyke; Austin Chinn went to Germantown; Drew Simmons went to Memphis National; Bobby O’Brien went to Chickasaw; Dale Kahlden went to Spring Creek Ranch; Bruno Stralzka went to Fair Oaks. The ProAm Series saw an increase in participation over 18 events, in spite of there being 2 less events this year. We had 265 Amateurs (5% increase over 2012) participate by playing 1,444 rounds (15% increase over 2012) throughout the year. The season finale was once again held at Tunica National with 78 amateurs qualifying (16% increase over 2012) to play a modified scramble with a Professional from the Chapter. (18 Professionals played, one per group). Windyke CC once again hosted the PGA Tour pre qualifier and Monday qualifier with a record sign up. Area PGA professionals Sid Johnson and Sam Kern were both unsuccessful in qualifying. TPC Southwind and the FedEx St. Jude Classic once again hosted an Area Wide Junior Clinic the Sunday before the tournament with 100 plus Juniors participating with numerous Club Professionals from the Chapter providing lessons. Also at TPC Southwind the Girls Golf Fair, led by Suzy Whaley and our West TN PGA Chapter Professionals, introduced 300 Junior Girls to the game of golf! In its pilot year, PGA Junior League Golf was a great success! We had five participating clubs all with near full roster teams. Our Greater Memphis PGA Junior League capped off its season with a League-wide awards luncheon hosted at Spring Creek Ranch recognizing Juniors for MVP, Best Team Spirit, and Most Improved among other Captain chosen awards as well as announcing the West TN PGA All Star Team! The West TN Chapter Championship was held at Windyke Country Club this year with 25 participants. Brian Wood of Windyke CC was the Champion. His victory at Windyke CC also secured his first place finish in our Ladd’s Cup, a season-long points race hosted by Ladd’s Club Car of Memphis. The year concluded with our Christmas and Awards Party held at Jim’s Place Grille, where we announced that the Chapter would be donating a modular putting green to the Ronald McDonald House in conjunction with Ladd’s Club Car. This was donated in early January with Jimmy Darr (TGF in attendance). We have laid out a plan for professionals to volunteer their time and host monthly putting clinics at Ronald McDonald House for the kids throughout the year.

REPORT OF THE TOURNAMENT COMMITTEE

Continuing on the recent success of our tournament program, the 2013 season had many positives. Our participation in Core events was up 2%. Participation in Sanctioned events was up 25%. On a very positive note, payouts in Core and Sanctioned events were up $26,160. The Players Club continued a positive growth pattern and 139 participated in 2013 versus 123 in 2012, an all-time high. The Players Club was directly responsible for adding $20,850 to the purses in 2013. Our Section Championship had an all- time high payout of just over $40,000. In all, the total payouts came to $269,145 dollars! That’s a 10% increase over 2012. Our sponsorship dollars have risen an astounding $261,886 since 2007. We would like to give a huge “Thank You” to our tremendous sponsors. Furthermore, the Tournament Committee would like to recognize our fabulous staff, for a job well done. Jeff, David, Adam, and Graham have worked tirelessly on our behalf to ensure the growth of these numbers stated above. Furthermore, the tournament operations had a very successful first year with two new events, the Classic held at Spring Creek Ranch and Mirimichi had 81 players with a purse of $10,850 and the Capital City sponsored by Dollar General had 123 players with a purse of $17,400. Our spots in the National Qualifying increased to six for the Professional National Championship. Going forward into 2014, there will be minor changes made to encourage even more participation. The Tournament Committee voted unanimously to adopt a more defined pace of play guidelines. We will be mirroring the policy used on the PGA and Web.com tours. Players will be given ample time to play a tournament round. Groups or players that are out of position will be given a verbal warning, followed by timing of the group or an individual. If a player has a bad timing they will be given one notice of the bad time. If the player has a second bad time they will be assessed, a one stroke penalty. If it happens a third time, the player will get an additional two stroke penalty. If the player has a fourth offense he will be disqualified. There will be a field reduction in the Sr. State Open from 156 to 126 players to give us the best opportunity to finish the event. Our eligible members will have a window from March 3rd through April 7th for early registration. Furthermore, there will be minor changes to the Senior Player of the Year points. Seniors will be able to earn points for a top 10 finish in the TPGA Professional Championship. Please make time to join us for the Las Vegas Travel Pro-Am that we now run. Dates are November 9th - 13th. Another change for the 2014 season is there will no longer be Member Qualifying spots for the Knoxville News Sentential Web.com event. The announcement was made at the PGA Annual Meeting in San Diego. As part of our PGA TOUR discussions and relationship, it was agreed that the 3 Web.com spots that the Tennessee Section has previously had access to will revert back to the PGA TOUR. As part of the exchange for these playing spots, it has been agreed that the PGA TOUR will pay each section $18,292 per year annually to support Section prize money which will benefit all playing members of our Section. The PGA TOUR will also increase our funding to run the Web.com Open Qualifying. In addition, the PGA TOUR has agreed to provide the PGA of America $1,000,000 annually in Public Service Announcements on Network television, Golf Channel and Sirius XM Radio which will be used to promote PGA members and our growth of the game initiatives. Please note that this was not an option for the Tennessee Section. The PGA TOUR owns their qualifying spots and was gracious enough to compensate us with the additional money and marketing support. This announcement will bring in an additional $40,000 to the Tournament Program. The Committee decided to allocate the money to the following: $3,000 Tennessee Challenge Cup Matches, $3,000 Assistant Cup Matches, $3,000 Senior Section Championship, $3,000 Assistant Section Championship, $3,000 Player of the Year (Regular, Assistant & Senior), $5,000 for an additional Tournament intern and $20,000 to the Tournament Reserve Fund.

20

We had a goal in 2013 of making the Cup Matches take on an entirely new feel. We would like to thank captain, Hunt Gilliland for making that happen. Although the outcome did not come out the way we anticipated, we were very close. Keeping the momentum going, we will be going back to Fairfield Glade this fall and hopefully bring the Cup back to its rightful place. Congratulations to the Assistants for continuing the positive trend of taking it to the Georgia team. The Assistants have now won 3 years in a row. Way to go!

REPORT OF THE AWARDS COMMITTEE The goals for the 2013 Awards Committee were to improve the selection process, establish the same criteria as the PGA of America National Awards, offer nomination forms online, recognize winners to their management/ownership and utilize awards to elevate perception of PGA members. This year the Awards Committee sent out nomination forms to each chapter member along with a chapter roster and the past 5 years of award winners in the chapter. Each chapter member was asked to provide the name of a nominee for each award and then was asked to fill out why they believed that individual was deserving of the award. Once we had all of the nominees turned in, each Chapter Awards Chairperson and their Chapter’s Awards Committee then determined the finalists for each category. Those finalists were all emailed a separate, more detailed, questionnaire to complete and return. The Chapter Awards Committee then determined the winner for each category, and they were recognized at their respective fall chapter meetings or holiday parties. Chapters again had the option of using a ghost writer to help prepare each chapter winners’ nomination form for the selection process by the Section Awards Committee. This process will help all 2013 section award winners have a more professional application at the national level. During the Fall Golf Summit, our Committee met and discussed ways to improve the awards process. There was a lengthy discussion on whether we should allow apprentices to be eligible for the Assistant Professional of the Year Award. Currently it is only open to PGA Members. The Committee voted to allow apprentices to be eligible for this award in 2014.

24

The Chair of the Distinguished Career Award (DCA) Committee Joe Taggert attended our meeting and presented a recommendation to the Awards Committee to add a representative on the Chapter Awards Committee to nominate PGA members for the DCA. Under the current format, the voting members for the DCA receive a list of over 60 eligible PGA members and an application from every eligible member who would like to submit an application – usually 20+ individuals. The Committee approved the following: DCA Standard Election Process: Each Chapter’s Award Committee will include one designated committee member with the

specific responsibility of nominating up to two (2) DCA nominees from their respective chapter. It is recommended that the

designated committee member be a past DCA winner, Section Officer or Chapter Officer. The Chapter Awards Committee will

vote to approve these nominees for consideration by Standard Election. The approved nominees will be asked to submit an

application for the DCA Standard Election. Each DCA voting member will be sent a packet of the submitted DCA applications

from each Chapter. Each voting member will list up to three (3) nominees for the DCA award. The DCA will be awarded to those

individuals who are on two-thirds (66.7%) of all received ballots.

For the upcoming season, all chapters will be firm with an awards nomination deadline of October 15, to give the Chapter Awards Committees ample time to gather information and make their selections before chapter holiday parties, etc. We will also be contacting Section award recipients to offer an additional plaque to the club to proudly display at their club to honor their professional’s achievement. The 2013 Awards Committee met this year in January at Golf House to select all Section Award winners, which allowed every Chapter Award Chairperson the opportunity to attend and participate. I would like to recognize and thank the following Committee members for their hard work throughout the year and for their input at the Section Awards Selection Meeting:

Chattanooga Chair Doug Amor Knoxville Chair John McKenry Middle Tennessee Chair Matt O'Dell Tri-Cities Chair Nodjya Cook West Tennessee Chair Greg Hynes

We will again not announce the Section Award winners until the Annual Meeting. The winners will be kept secret until the Club Car Awards Luncheon. We hope this will continue to add excitement to the luncheon. The Committee again decided to only announce the Section Golf Professional of the Year in advance, which this year was Jim Vernon of the Hermitage Golf Course in Old Hickory. In 2013, the Tennessee Section PGA did not have anyone selected as a Distinguished Career Award Winner. The Distinguished Career Award is the highest honor the Tennessee PGA can bestow upon a PGA professional. To be eligible, an individual must be at last 60 years of age, a PGA member for over twenty five years and have made significant contributions to the game of golf. If you have any comments or suggestions regarding the section’s special awards procedures, please contact me, or Jeff Abbot, in the section office. On behalf of the officers, members, apprentices, and staff of the TPGA, I extend our sincere congratulations to all of our award winners. You motivate us all to be better! Respectfully submitted, Bryan Combiths, PGA Awards Committee Chairman

REPORT OF THE EDUCATION COMMITTEE As we enter into the 2014 season, the TPGA staff and Board of Directors continue to set a high priority on providing the necessary tools and funding to insure our members and apprentices receive quality educational opportunities. The 47th Annual TPGA Education Seminar is evident that the officers, chapter directors and the staff go to great lengths to provide educational opportunities that enhance our careers and profession. This year’s seminar is no exception with Dottie Pepper, PGA Independent Director and LPGA Tour veteran as our keynote speaker. We are also having Bob Vokey from Titleist as an additional

25

featured speaker in one of our Cracker Barrels. At this year’s TPGA Planning Session, each committee chair gave highlights and accomplishments from 2013 and we established our 2014 goals and action plan. Here is what was presented for the Education Committee:

2013 ACCOMPLISHMENTS: - Outstanding 2013 Spring Education Seminar (Record number of attendees with 239) - Quarterly conference calls with chapter committee representatives - Proactive chapter directors and education committee representatives - Education seminar budget met without increasing cost to members - First ever Business Summit held at Golf House Tennessee with 41 attendees

2014 ACTION PLAN: - Maintain current spring seminar format - Administer committee conference calls three times a year - Continue to hold Fall Business Summit in conjunction with Fall Golf Summit - Work hand-in-hand with the Employment & Club Relations Committee to identify educational needs of golf

professionals and offer opportunities at chapter/section meetings - Continue to utilize Golf House Tennessee for education opportunities - Add chapter interactive workshop at club facilities for Apprentices/Assistants to experience club “walk-throughs” for

education and networking opportunities with assistance from Section

I would like to personally thank the TPGA Board of Directors, Executive Director Jeff Abbot, the TPGA Education Committee and Director of Operations Graham Honeycutt and the members and apprentices of the Tennessee section for making education a priority. Respectfully submitted, Hal Loflin, PGA Chairperson, Education Committee

REPORT OF THE GROWTH OF THE GAME COMMITTEE

2013 showed more decline in facilities participating in PGA branded Growth of the Game programs, but an increase of “homemade” programs and events. There was much discussion at the Fall Summit Meeting in November about the relevance or importance of playgolfamerica.com. Most agreed that is was still a recognizable brand and that more facilities should post their programs there regardless of whether or not it is PGA branded. Some of the highlights of 2013 include: Girls Golf Fair in Memphis, Play Golf America Day for Women, Golfzilla used 21 times, Mardi Gras event in Tri-Cities, Dottie Pepper Clinic at The First Tee of Chattanooga. Our long term objectives remain the same:

1. Tailor PGA programs to succeed locally. 2. Continue “Fit and Focus” model for participating in branded programs. 3. Create survey to better understand facility involvement…or lack of involvement. 4. Continue to update “next steps” with new and existing golfers. 5. Continue to share success stories with the entire Section. 6. Staff/Regional Directors to help track and recruit facilities to participate 7. Work closely with the Junior Golf Committee to help promote the game.

How we reach out to participants after an event continues to be our area with the biggest room for improvement. By all accounts the Section staff and facilities did a better job of following up after events, but offering further opportunities were scarce. The committee talked at length about the need for facilities to create more follow up events, outings, social gatherings, etc. to keep new players connected to the game longer.

26

With the additional ADP money from National, the committee asked for $10,000 for Growth of the Game efforts in 2014. With the blessing of the Board, that money will be available for PGA facilities by request. The committee put together the guidelines and criteria for requesting money. Grant applications are due March 15th. Each request will be reviewed by the committee and will grant funds based on the criteria set. Respectfully submitted, Jim Vernon, PGA Chairperson, Growth of the Game Committee

REPORT OF THE ASSISTANTS COMMITTEE

Education: The number of apprentices on the suspension list with the PGA has risen slightly in the past year from 9.7% to 16.7%. This is still in line with the national average of 16%. Our goal this year is to keep our suspension rate under the national average. To accomplish this goal our Assistant Committee Chapter Chairs and at-large members will continue to reach out to apprentices going through the PGM program. In 2013, Chapter Chairs sent several emails encouraging Assistant Professionals to play in Section tournaments and to get involved in Chapter and Section Activities. These email messages reminded Assistant Professionals of the benefits of getting involved in the PGA and how it will have a positive impact on their future careers.

Playing Opportunities: The Assistants Match Play sold out again this year with a total of 32 players participating in the event. The final four players met at Vanderbilt Legends Club for the semi-final and final matches. Kevin Snell of Henry Horton State Park defeated Gaylon Cude of The Little Course 4&3 to win the West Region. Jake Reeves of Holston Hills Country Club defeated Sean Rice of The Honors Course 5&4 to win the East Region. In the finals, Jake Reeves defeated Kevin Snell 3&2. Congratulations to Jake Reeves, this year’s Match Play Champion. In the consolation match, Sean Rice defeated Gaylon Cude 3&2. We would like to extend a special thank you to Patrick Jackson and Vanderbilt Legends Club for hosting the event.

27

Holston Hills Country Club played host to the 2013 National Car Rental Assistants Championship presented by Cobra/Puma Golf. Kevin Snell of Henry Horton State Park shot rounds of 67 and 69 (-8) to win by 4 strokes over Memphis Country Club’s Parker Rush. Winning the Assistants Championship also helped Kevin take home Tennessee Section Assistant Player of the Year honors. Both Kevin and Parker represented the Tennessee Section in the National Assistants Championship at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, FL. Thank you to Chris Dibble and Holston Hills Country Club for hosting the event. The Tennessee Section hosted this year’s Georgia/Tennessee Assistants Cup Matches at Tennessee National Golf Club in Loudon, TN. The TPGA Assistants Cup Team defended their title against Georgia PGA Assistants by a final score of 15 ½ to 9 ½. The Tennessee Team would rally from behind by winning 10 of 12 singles matches on the final day to win this Ryder Cup style event. The victory marks the third consecutive Assistants Cup Match title. The team consisted of Hunter Brown, Keith Burdette, Casey Flenniken, Braxton Hunter, Scott Masters, Madison Moore, Kylene Pulley, Jake Reeves, Sean Rice, Park Rush, Kevin Snell and Brad Stevens. Brown, Masters and Snell led the way for Tennessee by not losing a single match during the event. Thank you to Adam Foegen and Tennessee National for hosting the event. Thank you to all Assistants who made it a point to compete in as many tournaments as possible and support the Tennessee Section. Respectfully Submitted, Sean Rice, PGA Chairperson, Assistants Committee

SPONSORSHIP REPORT Current Status Year 2013 2012 2011 2010 Cash Received 242,095 232,850 214,900 166,300 Product/Trade Received 132,425 131,700 142,400 54,450

Total Sponsor Value 374,520 364,550 357,300 220,750

The Tennessee PGA sponsorship program saw continued growth in 2013 up 4% in cash sponsorships and 1 % in Product from 2012. The Section was also able to maintain positive relationships with our Platinum Sponsors ($10,000+ partnerships). The Platinum Sponsors include City of Crossville, Club Car, Page & Tuttle, E-Z-GO, Pepsi, Yamaha, Pepsi and Electronic Merchant Systems. We continue to make progress in developing relationships with non-golf partners through corporate hospitality and entertainment. These companies include Pepsi, Brown Forman, City of Crossville, American Cellular, Electronic Merchant Systems, Omaha Steaks, Jani King, United Rental and Northstar. We will continue to target these sponsorships in the upcoming years, as we see this market as the best opportunity for future sponsorships in the Tennessee Section. Golf related sponsors continue to bring in the most support to the Tennessee Section. As the economy rebounds from tough economic times over the past few years we have seen positive growth. We will continue to grow golf related sponsors and provide more value before, during and after the events they sponsor. Moving forward our goal for 2014 is to provide enhanced value to all sponsors of the Tennessee Section. This will be done not only at our events but also through our website, Tuesday e-newsletter, YouTube and Facebook media. We will also continue to promote our Section Sponsors to our Membership and encourage members to give our sponsors an opportunity to earn their business. We look forward to a successful 2014. Respectfully submitted, David Olinger Tournament Director

Email addresses/eRevision: One of the most popular benefits of the handicap service is the eRevision. Members receive their handicap update back via email. We still need assistance in acquiring the email addresses of your members. Please be sure to add an email address when adding new players.

GHINclub.net: This is a great way to run reports and do maintenance from any computer with internet access. Just go to GHINclub.net and enter Association # 27, your club # and password.

GHP Online: The web based version of GHIN is now available. A great option where you would like to have GHIN on multiple computers, but a network infrastructure is not in place. This is also a great option for golf associations.

Most Improved Golfer: The annual award is calculated on October 1st each year and mailed to the club for distribution.

Online Signups: We had over 800 new members’ signup online last year at www.joinTGA.com. The easy access allowed us to reach golfers who had never had a handicap before, along with the daily fee golfer that wants the convenience of completing the transaction online. The player registers online, enters their credit card and chooses a preferred course. The course is not charged for the member and receives a $9 credit for each online member.

We remote into the clubs computer while on the phone. We can take them through the steps of adding players, how to run reports, etc. The training usually takes 15-20 minutes. Please contact Lynne to setup a time.

Revision Schedule: Handicaps will be updated on the 1st and 15th of each month. This is in accordance with the USGA guidelines to follow the nationwide USGA revision schedule.

Supplies: Plastic handicap cards, scorecards, shaft labels, roll handicap labels, handicap manuals may be purchased directly from the TGA-TPGA Office.

Tournament Pairings Program: GHIN offers a great tournament software as part as the membership package. This is a great way to upgrade your tournaments. Contact Lynne for more information.

USGA Handicap Certification: All clubs who issue USGA Handicaps are required to attend a handicap seminar or take an online quiz sometime during the current cycle (2012-2015). TENNESSEE SECTION PGA PASSKEY REPORT

Passkey book sales continue to decline, as has been the trend for the past seven years despite our best efforts to reverse this trend. Gross Sales for the Passkey Program were down 23% from 2012 to 2013, and Net Revenue was down 29% from 2012 to 2013. We continue to execute the Passkey Program, as it is still a revenue generator for the Section. We have continued our marketing efforts with the book through the resources we have available. We continue the Callaway P.A.R. – Passkey Advantage Referral program to include a drawing for Callaway RAZR x2 irons, along with a custom fitting and Callaway golf bag that retails for $1,000. We have continued to utilize social media outlets to expand our reach and find new potential customers. We have continued to mail out 24,000 brochures through a mail publisher’s clearing house and produce an e-newsletter with expanded offers & deals. However, these continued marketing campaigns have not produced the desired results of a reverse in declining sales. The Passkey program has been one of the Section’s biggest revenue producers in the past. The market for the Passkey book has now been shifted to Third Party Tee Time Systems or golf courses offering their own discount programs at their facilities. We will continue to search for ways to maximize revenue and minimize expenses for the Passkey program, but I am concerned that the current model as it exists is not sustainable for the future. If the current trend of continued loss of revenue from the Passkey books continues, we may be forced to look at other alternatives to supplement this loss of income moving forward. We are preparing for this by continuing to search for possible alternatives, while also continuing to make positive changes to the Passkey program. I urge you to please consider supporting the Passkey book exclusively, and if your facility is not involved in the Passkey Program I would encourage you to think about signing up to participate. The program is ONLY successful with the continued support of Tennessee PGA Professionals & Apprentices. I am thankful to those individuals who have taken it upon themselves to promote and participate in the Passkey program at their facility. If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas regarding the Passkey please feel free to contact me anytime. Respectfully submitted, Graham Honeycutt, PGA Director of Operations

TENNESSEE GOLF FOUNDATION REPORT

I congratulate the Section on a job well done in 2013. The highlight that the TGF wishes to acknowledge the most was the Herb Graffis Award that was given to the Section in San Diego- a well-deserved honor and long overdue! It was an honor for me to be with your officers and Jeff to receive that award. We sincerely appreciate the help, support and cooperative culture that Jeff Abbot and your officers bring to the Foundation. A special thanks to Neil, Ken, Johnny and Hunt for their service on the TGF Board of Directors, and to Loren Roberts, the TGF Independent Director. All represent you well. Below are excerpts from a report that I recently gave to the TGF Chairman Jim Seabury that summarizes 2013. “With all of our success on the national and world stage by our high profile former Tennessee junior golfers in 2012, we should be proud of our continued progress in 2013 and display optimism for an exciting future. We cannot relax the fiscal discipline that buoyed us through the recession of 2008-2009 and then found us with double digit investment returns in 2013. Fiscal caution and wisdom will again be important for a successful 2014. Although the past few years have presented unique difficulties in the private country club arena in our State, the difficulty has also helped reveal how effective a cooperative culture of all of golf's stakeholders can be in our common goal to expand golf in the youth market. If we focus on what we do best and stay progressive with dynamic leadership we will continue to progress in unprecedented ways. With our extensive emphasis on personal relationships built up over many years, I look forward to all that we will accomplish together in 2014. At the beginning of 2013 these were our goals: • Host an outstanding National The First Tee conference Feb.28-March 2 • Decision (Y/N) on The Vinny partnering with The Champions Tour

30

• Tri City Chapter of The First Tee- secure major gifts commitments • Kickoff TGA Centennial Campaign- June 23 event at The Honors • Elevate the Junior Cup into a major -The National First Tee Networking conference was a smashing success for not only The First Tee but especially for Tennessee. Record attendance capped off an incredible week. Most importantly for us was that three national The First Tee $1 million Trustee donors emerged in 2013, and each pledged 40% of their gifts to our First Tee. -The Champions Tour dream made headway in 2013 and I firmly believe The Vinny will become a partnership with a Champions Tour event in Middle Tennessee. -The Tri Cities/Bristol gifts exceeded my wildest dreams and now the ball is in our court to make this chapter exceed the donor’s expectations. -The TGA Honors Kickoff Centennial event netted over $65,000. -The Tennessee Junior Cup was magnificent at its new home- The Grove. Scott Stallings is taking over the real ownership of the event. He was incredible all week and our best juniors in the State now have a new hero to root for on Tour! We have started to endow the event with an opening gift of $75,000. -Our campus at GHT continued improvements ($@65,000), repairs and upgrades as well as improving The VinnyLinks course. -A $50,000 Memorial Foundation grant to improve the playing conditions at the VinnyLinks was significant and is being spent over a two year period- 2013-14. -A second year of gifting toward a half million dollar pledge for the Huddleston Family TN Golf Hall of Fame Gallery was completed. -The Grove is an excellent partner for TGF and will grow in the years ahead- a special thanks to PGA member Mike Green for his role in the partnership. -Our First Tee college scholarship program was wonderful with over $20,000 of tuition grants given. We had four of our Ace level juniors qualify for The First Tee Open at Pebble Beach- second most in the country. -The Screaming Eagle Pro-Am ($33,000) was highly successful in 2013, and we increased the revenue from The Honors Pro-Am ($2000). The Music City Bowl Charity Cup ($20k) and The Delek were both successful. The LPGA Legends was an event that was enjoyable and while it did not generate a gift to the TGF, it was good for golf in the local community. -Annual giving was slightly off in 2013 vs 2012. -In reviewing the Regional Director program, the TGF invested $247,000 total (or an average of @ $62k per area) in the four regions of the state outside of Middle Tennessee. -The Little Course was financially successful, the Junior Tour surpassed its record membership of 2012, and the TPGA Junior Golf Academy was 100% fully subscribed. On a personal note, March 5th begins my 40th year in working with the Section and our professionals- how time flies when you are having fun! Respectfully submitted,

Dick Horton, TGF President

TENNESSEE GOLF ASSOCIATION REPORT This year marks the 100th anniversary of the Tennessee Golf Association’s founding and we have a lot of exciting plans to commemorate this wonderful milestone in our history. The TGA was founded on June 5, 1914 during the Southern Amateur which was being conducted at Memphis Country Club. Only a handful of clubs were represented on that day in June 1914, but the TGA has now grown to include 200 member clubs and 32,000 individual members. Listed below is a brief description of our plans for the next twelve months.

NEW ASSOCIATION AND CENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY LOGO On January 1st, we unveiled our new association logo. The new logo (shown below) incorporates the silhouette of a championship trophy, because conducting state championships is at the heart of why the TGA was founded. The logo also includes the three stars from the Tennessee State Flag which signifies that the TGA is a statewide organization that promotes, and protects, the game of golf across the entire State of Tennessee. The association’s name has been placed in a circular arrangement around the trophy and language has also been included which states that the association was founded in 1914.

We have already begun using our new logo, but you will continue to see our old logo from time to time until we are able to phase the new one in completely. During 2014, you will also see our centennial anniversary logo (above right) which as you can see mirrors our new association logo closely except verbiage has been added to signify this year is our centennial anniversary.

GALA DINNERS We will be conducting six gala dinners throughout the state which will honor the people, the clubs, and the historical events that have made the last century so special in these communities. Each dinner will feature displays of various championship trophies, historical photos and newspaper articles, Tennessee Golf Hall of Fame memorabilia, and much more. A special part of each evening will be the fireside chat featuring some of the individuals who have played an important role in the TGA’s first hundred years. Our schedule of gala dinners will be as follows:

March 8th at Jackson Country Club ~ March 21st at Belle Meade Country Club March 29th at Chattanooga Golf & Country Club ~ April 12th at Johnson City Country Club

April 18th at Cherokee Country Club ~ June 6th at Memphis Country Club Each of these dinners is open to the public and individuals may attend one or all of the dinners. The cost to attend is $100 per person and interested parties can visit www.tngolf.org/centennial for more information and to register. Individuals may also contact Nathaniel Hantle (TGA Office) at 615-465-6304 if they would like to register by phone. Note: A copy of the TGA Centennial Anniversary Gala Dinner Reservation Form follows this report.

COMMEMORATIVE BOOK Many organizations choose anniversaries such as this to write a book on their history, but Gene Pearce did such a wonderful job with his The History of Tennessee Golf, and the TGA decided to go in a different direction, and will be publishing a book titled Titans of the TGA: Fifty People Who Helped Shape The Tennessee Golf Association’s First Hundred Years. The TGA has asked Chris Dortch, a regular contributor to Tennessee Golf Quarterly, and editor of Blue Ribbon College Basketball

Yearbook, to author the book which will profile fifty people, from different backgrounds, who made a significant impact on amateur golf in Tennessee as a player, administrator, golf professional, superintendent, golf course architect, benefactor, etc.

32

We recently mailed an order form for this book to each of our member clubs and another copy is following this report. Titans

of the TGA will be approximately 9”x12” in size, contain 132 pages of great information and will be housed in a genuine leather cover. The cost of the book is $49 each and the TGA kindly requests that your club consider buying at least a few copies to have available at your club. This book would also make a great gift for your club’s members, board or committee members, or as a tournament favor for your club championship, member-guest, etc. Please contact Matt Vanderpool at (615) 465-6301 if you have any questions regarding this book. Note: A copy of the Titans of the TGA order form follows this report.

CHAMPIONSHIPS Many of the state’s top facilities will be hosting TGA championships in 2014. The Tennessee Amateur Championship will be held at Memphis Country Club while the Women’s Amateur Championship will be conducted at Knoxville’s Cherokee Country Club. Nashville’s Belle Meade Country Club will host the Tennessee Open Championship and Knoxville’s Holston Hills Country Club will be the home of the Match Play and Senior Match Play Championships. Some of the other clubs hosting championships this year include The Honors Course, Jackson Country Club, Sevierville Golf Club and Stonehenge Golf Club. A complete list of championship sites for 2014 is available on the TGA’s website at www.tngolf.org.

COMMUNICATION EFFORTS In an effort to ensure we continue to observe our centennial anniversary throughout the year, the association has developed a timeline of significant events from the last hundred years. These events will be highlighted over the next twelve months through the TGA’s website and social media outlets. We will also be producing a commemorative program which will detail items such as the history of the association, how the TGA fulfills its mission to promote and protect the game, listings of past champions and past presidents, etc. We plan to have the program available in April and copies will be distributed to our member clubs, available at TGA championships and available for download via the TGA’s website.

CENTENNIAL CLUB We will soon unveil a program that will provide individuals with the opportunity to assist us with celebrating our centennial anniversary. Individuals will be able to join the TGA Centennial Club which will enable them to receive special centennial anniversary logo favors in return for a tax deductible contribution. Everyone that participates will also be recognized by the TGA for their financial support. As you can see, we have a lot of great activities planned for the upcoming year. Supporting our member clubs is extremely important to the TGA and this year alone we will spend over $300,000 at our member clubs for our various competitions and events. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for what you do to support and grow this wonderful game and a very special thank you goes to the PGA members and apprentices who are at facilities that will be hosting one of our qualifying rounds, championships, educational workshops, TGA centennial gala dinners or other TGA function this year. We could not conduct these activities without the support shown by you and your clubs. This is an exciting year for the TGA and we look forward to you and your club joining us as we celebrate our centennial anniversary.

Respectfully submitted,

Matthew N. Vanderpool Executive Director

REPORT OF THE CHATTANOOGA REGIONAL DIRECTOR

Golf in Chattanooga remained healthy in 2013. The introduction of the PGA Junior Golf League and a grass roots junior skills competition were positive additions to the region. Over 200 kids ages 15 & under were engaged with the game through these exciting new programs. Junior competitions saw a slight increase in the region with participation in the TGA Junior Tour rising 12% from the previous season. Amateur golf was at the center of attention this past year as well. Chattanooga Golf & Country Club hosted the TN State Amateur that crowned Steven Fox as champion. Weeks before claiming this title Steven and Golf Channel Analyst Charlie Rymer were special guests for an event honoring amateur golf. The Tennessee Golf Association held a centennial kick-off event hosted by The Honors Course that featured a dinner and chat with the aforementioned guests followed by a golf tournament the next day. This special event raised $60,000 for the Honors Amateur Golf Fund, a fund that will help the TGA to continue to conduct its championships at a high level for years to come.

Support for The First Tee of Chattanooga continues to increase with contributions from two popular golf events. Through events either conducted or supported by the TGF upwards of $65,000 were raised in 2013. The TGF’s annual Honors/Council Fire Pro-Am along with the Hullco Heritage, a local two-day event that includes a concert, silent auction, and golf tournament, are the two biggest contributors to the program. The Chattanooga PGA Pro-Am Series had another successful season closely matching its record numbers from 2012. A few slight changes to the schedule proved to be positive and made for a great season ending Partners Circle Pro-Am at The Farm Golf Club. Communication with participants in these events continues to improve with the email database growing 46.5% from the previous year. This should translate into more players in the future as word continues to spread on the great value the pro-am series provides. Just as I finish typing up this report, Tennessee native and TN Junior Cup Team host Scott Stallings wins the 2014 Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. Way to go Scott! Now, let’s all get fired up for a great year in Tennessee golf. Respectfully submitted, Dori W. Paschall Chattanooga Regional Director

REPORT OF THE KNOXVILLE REGIONAL DIRECTOR Junior golf in Knoxville gained some significant traction in 2013. The Tennessee Golf Foundation led the expansion effort for The First Tee of Greater Knoxville. The First Tee’s home course is Williams Creek Golf Course. We added 5 more programming sites last year, adding another 200 kids to the program. We also put a renewed focus on The First Tee’s After School Program, prioritizing golf in to the curriculum. That renewed focus added another 70 kids to The First Tee program. Our relationship with The First Tee of Greater Knoxville continues to grow as we work closer with them on many aspects of their organization. The TGF also entered into a management agreement with the Knox Area Junior Golf Association. In that agreement, the TGF is responsible for managing Beverly Park Par 3 Golf Course. We hired PGA Professional George Hall to run the course, implemented junior golf programs and improved the conditions of the golf course. Towards the end of the year, we had Chris Hartwiger, Senior Agronomist with the USGA, assess the property and give recommendations. We were delighted with his suggestion to build a full size range. Bill Bergin has agreed to be the architect for the project and is in the process of drawing up plans and budgets for the renovation. With the potential changes, we believe Beverly Park Golf Course can become a great home for junior golf in Knoxville – much like The Little Course in Franklin. The pro-am series was flat when compared to 2012 numbers and that included a few rained out events. I believe we would have seen growth last year if it wasn’t for bad weather. The economic impact on golf was over $140,000. Our PGA professionals won nearly $15,000 through the series, all for a $30 entry fee each week. We used the proceeds from the Pro Am Series to fund a full time position at Beverly Park for a PGA professional. The TGF hosted a lunch with local politicians to share the economic impact of golf across the state. The luncheon was held at Fox Den Country Club during the web.com News Sentinel Open presented by Pilot. The TGF hosted a variety of outreach programs including: Junior Skills Challenge as part of the Web.com event, golf in schools,

36

Food City Kids Clinic, Rules Clinics, College Day for kids who aspire to play college golf and more. Other programs included: Knoxville Junior Series and the Knoxville Amateur Tour. Both programs had a successful 2013 and will be continued in 2014. Opportunities keep opening here in Knoxville, the TGF and Knoxville PGA Chapter are excited about impacting the game through TFT and junior programs at Beverly Park GC this year. Respectfully submitted,

Chad Anderson Knoxville Regional Director

REPORT OF THE TRI-CITIES REGIONAL DIRECTOR

The Tri-Cities have taken great strides in 2013. The Pro-Am Series and Junior Tour remain strong while The First Tee of Tri-Cities will see tremendous growth opportunity in the near future due to donor support. There was also several local Growth of the Game initiatives that took place over 2013 such as the Dennis Walters Show, PGA Junior League, and Fun Fest. The First Tee of Tri-Cities was flat compared to last year. The Tri-Cities PGA Junior Series offered 7 tournaments to juniors ages 8-17 in addition to the 12 local TGA Toyota Junior Tour tournaments. During the summer the Tri-Cities completed its first year of the PGA Junior League. There were 4 teams represented in its inaugural year. The Amateurs were able to retain the Tri-Cities Cup Match trophy. Respectfully submitted, Cody Weems Tri-Cities Regional Director

REPORT OF THE WEST TENNESSEE REGIONAL DIRECTOR

In 2013 I began the process of identifying individuals that could assume many of the tournament administration duties that have grown to occupy the majority of my time during the summer season. My goal was to allow for more time spent on our core activities such as the TGA Junior Tour and the Tennessee Middle School Golf Association and increase my time in the various growth-of-the-game initiatives we have in place, or are creating in West TN. The Memphis Golf Association and the PGA Pro-Am Series both agreed to hire tournament directors and compensate them directly. This allowed me to transition into more of an oversight role with these two large, multi-event organizations and spend a significant amount of time promoting both and focusing on growing participation. The Pro-Am Series staged two fewer events in 2013 than the prior year due to weather, but still realized a 5% increase in the number of amateur players (from 252 in 2012 to 265 in 2013); a 15% increase in the number of rounds played by amateurs (from 1,258 in 2012 to 1,444 in 2013); and an 11% increase in total rounds played by professionals and amateurs combined (from 1,452 in 2012 to 1,608 in 2013). The number of players that qualified for the season-ending finale also rose from 67 to 78, which all demonstrates that this Pro-Am Series has gained community-wide recognition and is poised for significant growth in 2014. We will be implementing an on-line tee time booking process this year, and have established a plan to more than double our sponsorship commitments. The Memphis Golf Association continues to operate on very stable ground, as my involvement over the past 6 seasons has evolved into more of an oversight position with them as well. Aside from growing their player database from 278 amateurs in 2008 to 642 today, the most satisfying achievement with the MGA has been the re-establishment of the MGA Junior that had been squeezed out of the summer schedule entirely and was not held from 2005 to 2010. We re-introduced the event in 2011, with invitations going to TGA Junior Tour players as well as MGA member club juniors, and have completed 3 successful stagings of the tournament in a row. We have now partnered with a private donor family in the Memphis area that has agreed to fully fund the tournament for the foreseeable future. In 2014 the final round will be held at Memphis Country Club, with a morning shotgun start and an awards luncheon on the terrace to follow. The tournament will now be one of the first citywide championships on the summer schedule each season for area juniors getting out of school and hopefully will grow to become a local “Junior Major”. In 2014 the TGF West Region will be expanding its relationship with the FedEx St. Jude Classic. They have asked us to help them identify ways to dramatically increase their “youth” component and attendance at the event by area juniors. We have reached an agreement on multiple offerings to begin this process in 2014. We will be establishing an FESJC Junior Player of the Year points system that will utilize a cross section of local and state tournaments to determine a boys and girls Player of the Year. There will be some form of special recognition of these players during tournament week in 2015. The FESJC will also be a sponsor partner at our inaugural Middle School Golf Jamboree to be held this March 1st on Mirimichi’s Little Course. Each middle-school player will receive a weeklong credential to attend the 2014 FESJC that will be worn around the neck on TGF branded lanyards. We will also be staging a TGF branded Youth Clinic on the Tuesday of tournament week that will be emceed by a CBS television personality, include the FESJC defending champion Harris English (we are currently seeking commitments from Scott Stallings, Patrick Reed and possibly one other player – it appears Snedeker will not be playing Memphis this year). The clinic will be entertaining and interactive, with an open Q&A and a cookout on the range for the kids. Additional ideas for youth offerings are being developed for 2015 and beyond. We are currently working on the total overhaul of our website offerings in the West Region as well, with a target “live” date of April 1. www.memphisgolf.org will become a clearinghouse site for all TGF activities in the Memphis area, and incorporate the new navigability of www.tngolf.org Respectfully submitted, Jimmy Darr West Tennessee Regional Director

Approximately 240 PGA members and apprentices attended the annual meeting. Collins called the meeting to order at 8:00 am and asked Education Chair Hal Loflin to give an invocation. Collins presented Loflin with some gifts in recognition for his 11th year as Education Chair. Abbot then recognized special guests (Premier Golf, PING and Pepsi) and meeting sponsors (EMS, Club Car and Chase54). EMS representative Scott Carmichael then spoke briefly to the membership. Collins then asked for a moment of silence for fellow PGA members Tom Foree and Gil Bettez who passed away since the last annual meeting. He also asked to keep Rob Lent in everyone’s prayers during his battle with cancer. Bridgeman then performed roll call and recognized newly elected PGA members who were then presented a PGA professional pin by Collins. He then asked PGA members who transferred into the Section to stand and be recognized. Collins recognized new Quarter Century members Johnny Bridgeman, Bob Ward and Johnny Warren. Collins noted that the 2012 Annual Meeting Minutes were e-mailed to the membership via the annual meeting booklet and a motion for their approval would be sought at the end of the meeting. He stated his President’s report was in writing and recognized the Board, Committee Members and Staff for their hard work during the past year. Collins also announced that Hunt Gilliland will be the 2013 Tennessee Cup Match Captain for the Professional Team. Crowder stated that his Vice President report was in writing. The Vice President’s report included the 2012 Financial Statements as prepared by the PGA Admin Accounting Department. He noted the Operating Fund netted a $15,388 surplus and the Tournament Fund netted a $1,443 surplus. The Investment Fund was up 12.8% and had a year-end balance of $1,078,918. He then introduced PGA Employment Consultant Kevin Walls who discussed the highlights of his Employment Report. Walls stressed the importance of completing the Section’s Compensation Survey and CareerLinks profile. Abbot introduced District 3 Director Bud Rousey to the membership and noted Rousey’s report was in writing. Abbot then thanked the Section for their outstanding support of Patriot Golf Day in 2012 which raised over $58,500 for the Folds of Honor Foundation. He then recognized all facilities which raised more than $1,000: Vanderbilt Legends Club ($10,700), Golf Club of Tennessee ($10,500), Governors Club ($9,900), Fairfield Glade ($8,000), Tellico Village ($2,950), McCabe Golf Course ($2,750), Ridgeway Country Club ($2,200), Temple Hills Country Club ($1,400) and Council Fire Golf Club ($1,200). Abbot then discussed the highlights of the recently completed 2011 Tennessee Golf Economic Impact Study. The state’s 300 golf facilities have a direct economic impact of nearly $1 billion, an industry larger than Smoky Mountain Tourism and all professional sports (Titans, Predators, Grizzlies) combined. With ancillary spending, golf is a $2 billion dollar business in Tennessee. It is responsible for 22,500 jobs and $564 million in wages. The Allied Associations have secured a proclamation that April 9th will be Tennessee Golf Day and will sponsor a breakfast at the State Capitol Building for state representatives to promote these findings. Abbot then introduced TGF President Dick Horton who discussed the highlights of the 2012 season and plans for 2013. Following Horton, TGA Executive Director, Matt Vanderpool, gave an update on the TGA which included their 100th Anniversary Fundraising Campaign scheduled for 2013 and 2014. Olinger then presented the highlights of the upcoming 2013 tournament season events and gave a comical “Top 10” list of why members should play in TPGA events. Collins presented a motion to accept all reports and minutes as written; it was seconded and unanimously approved. Gilliland then administered the oath of office to incoming Board Members Barnes, Moran and Reid. Collins presented plaques to outgoing board members Muncy, Brown and Goin. As there was no Old Business to discuss, Collins moved forward with New Business and Open Forum. After a few general comments from the floor, Abbot conducted a 45 minute Town Hall Forum with newly hired PGA CEO Pete Bevacqua. Abbot thanked the membership for their attendance and officially adjourned the meeting at 10:00 am.
