It.has.been.a.pleasure.to.serve.as.president.of.the.Canadian.Blood.and.Marrow.Transplant.Group.(CBMTG).over.the.last.year..
CBMTG.is.a.strong,.growing.association.that.exists.to.meet.the.needs.of.the.Canadian.BMT.field..Over.the.course.of.the.last.year,.my.goal.has.been.to.build.upon.the.successes.of.previous.boards.and.to.continue.to.advance.the.association..
I.was.pleased.that.we.successfully.obtained.charitable.status.for.the.organization..Thank.you.to.our.members.who.helped.this.happen.by.voting.at.our.special.general.meeting..This.was.a.real.grassroots.effort.and.we.could.not.have.done.it.without.you..
This.charitable.status.will.allow.us. to.grow.and.evolve. further..As.we.grow,.we.want. to.ensure. that. the.association.meets.your.needs..Therefore.we.are.holding.the.first.CBMTG.Town.Hall.in.conjunction.with.the.Montreal.conference..At.this.meeting.we.will.be.discussing.what.the.organization.will.look.like.in.the.future..What.is.clear,.however,.is.that.the.association.will.need.your.continued.participation.and.engagement.so.that.we.continue.to.advance..

CBMTG. has. developed. a. comprehensive.outcomes. registry. containing. detailed. clinical.data.on.Canadians.undergoing.both.autologous.and. allogeneic. hematopoietic. cell. transplants.from.programmes.across.Canada..The.Registry.is.based. in.Winnipeg.and. is.under. the. leadership.of.Kristjan.Paulson..The.Registry.is.an.important.research.tool.for.CBMTG.members..Some.possible.benefits.of.having.country-wide.data:
1.. Transplant.activity.and.practices.across.Canada.can.facilitate.the.design.and.conduct.of.clinical.trials.by.CBMTG.member.centres.
2.. Transplant.outcomes.reflecting.Canadian.clinical.practice.
3.. Practice.patterns.and.outcomes.can.be.used.by.health.services.researchers.and.programmes.to.inform.policy.makers.and.payers.about.National.standards.of.practice.
The.majority.of.the.data.will.be.collected.through.our.partnership.with.CIBMTR..As.part.of.FACT.requirements.transplant.programmes. collect. Transplant. Essential.Data. (TED). as.defined.by. the.CIBMTR.. Through.data.sharing.agreements,.TED.forms.submitted. to. the.CIBMTR,.can.be. forwarded.to. the.CBMTG.for. inclusion.in.our.National.Registry..Canadian.programmes.can.also.submit.their.data.directly.to.the.CBMTG.Registry..Hopefully.be.this.time.next.year,.every.Canadian.Programme.will.be.contributing.their.data.to.our.National.Registry.and.involved.in.CBMTG.research.activities.
