2014‐2015 Faculty Profile Highlights

• Wayne State employs 1,725 full-time faculty members serving in 14 of the university’s colleges or divisions.

• The racial composition of the faculty is 67% White (n = 1,155), 22% Asian (n = 381), 7% Black (n = 115), and 2% Latino (n = 42). 1

• 40% are female (n = 690); 60% are male (n = 1,035). • 44% of the faculty are tenured (n = 760), 15% are on the tenure track (n = 257), and 41% neither

have tenure nor are on the tenure track (n = 708).

• Of the female faculty, 30% (n = 207) have tenure; whereas 53% (n = 553) of male faculty members are tenured.

• The average age of a faculty member is 52.

• 25% of faculty are age 62 or older.

• The College of Engineering, School of Social Work and School of Medicine have the most racially diverse faculty.

• Wayne State employs 70 international faculty members (not U.S. citizens or permanent

residents).

• All tenured faculty at WSU are U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents.

• Wayne State hired a total of 120 new faculty members in the past year.
