LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT Chapter Leadership Programs

This event equipped young professionals with a toolkit to amplify their personal brand. Attendees

heard from panel experts on building their resume, image consulting and received

professional headshots. Small businesses from young professionals were also featured that had a

focus on building your brand.

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT Chapter Leadership Programs

This interactive workshop featured four fictional YP members at various life stages, designed to

teach the young professional how to leverage their personal finances for philanthropic giving

related to the four empowerment goals of Health, Housing, Jobs, and Education. Groups were asked

to discuss one situation and figure out the best way to address their member’s specific issue. The

session ended with feedback from a panel of professionals in banking, insurance, real estate,

and non-profit.

This interactive workshop featured YP members Gala Jackson, CEO and Millennial Career Expert at InterviewSnob, and Christie Sithiphone, Executive

Search Consultant at Lucas Group . They shared valuable tips on how to create powerful LinkedIn pages for a job search, making real connections,

and presenting yourself for position. Both closed with tactics to leverage your online presence to

support the Urban League and other personal passions.

This interactive event featured Lori George Billingsley, VP of Community Relations, Coca-Cola

North America; Jay Bailey, CEO, Operation Hope Atlanta; Meredith Lilly, Senior Advisor, U.S. General Service Administration; and TJ Copeland, Corporate Trainer, Verizon Wireless. Each panelist shared how

they identified their mentors, formed a strong relationship with them, and how they took that

experience to become mentors themselves.

To support National Small Business Week, we showcased our members who are entrepreneurs,

hosted by a local small business. Over 13 young professionals showcased their business at Nancy’s Pizza Buckhead, including financial planning, web development, career management, employment

Atlanta YP’s traveled to Memphis, TN to attend the Memphis Empowerment Conference where they attended various development sessions and engaged with young professionals from across the country.

Dream Catchers is focused on identifying and recognizing students in the metropolitan Atlanta area

who exhibit academic success, while rewarding businesses and individuals that exhibit excellence in

areas relevant to our five pronged agenda.

During the reception, The ULGA-YP Executive Board awarded five high school scholarships and recognized

business and individuals who have served as avid supporters of ULGA-YP programs. Contributions towards this event benefit the Dream Catcher’s scholarship program and other ULGA-YP service

programs.

countless other questionable killings of young black men, we hosted a town hall to shape a discussion are

community activism. Our panel included the following: Nancy Flake Johnson, CEO of Urban League of Greater

Atlanta; Travis Townsend, Managing Partner at Townsend & Lockett and President of MAFDET; and

Derrick Boazman, President/CEO of Facilitation Strategies, community activist, and radio personality on

1380 WAOK News & Talk radio. The moderator was Blayne Alexander of 11Alive News, who covered news first-hand in Ferguson shortly after the incident. This

was held on the Campus of Clark Atlanta University and attracted over 100 individuals from the community.

In collaboration with the Urban League of Greater Atlanta Guild, we educated the community on

important health matters! We had over 35+ exhibitors manning booths, providing screenings

for HIV, blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, and sickle cell. We will also be disseminated

information on mental health and financial wellness! In addition, we had speeches by City Councilmen and State Representatives on the importance of staying healthy and involved in

your community. Finally, there was entertainment by various local artists, including vocalists,

guitarists, spoken word and performers.

ULGA, ULGA-YP, and the Guild participated in a Vine City neighborhood beautification day on Saturday, April 25th from 7:30-2 pm. We helped to create recreational areas for the youth of this area, built picnic tables and flower beds, and painted.
