Message from the President

The Zonta Club of Brampton-Caledon ended the 2014-15 very well positioned to move from ‘Celebrate ‘ to ‘Grow’ in the coming year. This was the result of a number of goals accomplished over the year. ON TREND

• Our 40th Anniversary Team successfully had all 70 of us, members and guests wearing red bracelets and enjoying an Italian inspired buffet in the sunny afternoon of Sunday, November 2 at the Brampton Golf Club. Charter President Irene Biggs and members Willa Woodill and Dr. Kathleen Armitage Peddle cut the birthday cake.

• Staying the course set by previous Boards: our governance practices have seen prudent and effective upgrades in the area of management administration and decision-making.

ON POINT

• Service, Advocacy, Membership and Fellowship & Program Committees targeted projects in line with Zonta’s mission and goals.

• We updated our by-laws to conform to the changes adopted at the 2014 ZI Convention. This called for changes on how we qualify for membership which led to the inclusion of retired and practicing professionals. We hope this will encourage more professionals to become Zontians.

• Funds for our service projects came mainly from the Zonta Classic (golf) and from service revenue from prior years. We are currently organizing our efforts to obtain a permit to participate in the share of proceeds from volunteering in scheduled assignments at the Delta Bingo in Brampton. This program will help the club raise additional revenue for local service disbursements.

TRENDING in upcoming year:

• Keep on growing. We are a valuable talent pool • Keep on listening to all opinions and understanding needs • Find ways to get results for our time and money We will continue to comply with Provincial and Federal Government requirements and observe time-lines. We will be updating and enhancing our efforts to provide our members a long, meaningful membership experience persuing Zonta’s mission and goals. I’d like to thank my fellow Board members, Committees Chairs and all members for their continued commitment to success in 2014-15.

Haydee Kocchiu, M.Eng.

2. Describe other examples of club service activities that align with Zonta`s mission.

To encourage active engagement in activities that align with Zonta’s mission, efforts were made to reach out to the inactive Z Clubs, and provide support where possible by members of the Z/Golden Z Clubs Committee. These efforts will continue in the new school year beginning September 2015.

Advocacy 1. Describe any advocacy activity that your club has undertaken.

• Participated in both of the Area 2 Zonta Says No Award presentations (Toronto Argos and

Principal Timothy Powell-McBride of Westdale Secondary School in Hamilton). • Sent out email blasts with facts and information each day through the 16 Days of Activism. • Held a successful International Women’s Day breakfast on March 6, 2015. Partnered with the

White Ribbon Campaign with our keynote speaker being from that organization. • Successfully applied to both the City of Brampton and the Town of Caledon to have March 8,

2015 officially proclaimed International Women’s Day in both places. • The Deputy Mayor of Caledon attended our IWD breakfast to present the proclamation to our

club. • Throughout the year, members of our club attended various functions held by other clubs.

Membership 1. Share the most relevant membership tool that you have utilized to achieve your club

membership goals.

This year we extended our Brampton Board of Trade membership and attended a networking event to recruit members. We were unable to leverage our membership with the Brampton Board of Trade as their networking events were on the same night as our board meeting. We gained one new member from our Board of Trade membership. This may not be worth renewing. Decision to be made.

We invited six guests for the dinner meeting and secured one member. We have updated the new member checklist to clarify roles of sponsoring member. We are developing a mentoring program for new members and creating a comprehensive new member folder. Other successes include: - we held a new member orientation session for members installed in the last year - we connected each member with a mentor, in addition to their sponsor - revisit the value of the Brampton Board of Trade (BBOT) Membership - a member of the committee attended a BBOT Networking workshop - president is sending out monthly Calendar updates so members know what is being done each

month and how they can help - invited Brampton Board of Trade CEO to talk about leveraging our membership for recruitment - honorary membership termination letters drafted and sent with invites to join

Fellowship & Program 1. Describe the level of active participation of your members in your club endeavours.

All of our members are invited to submit their ideas for speakers and our social events. Our success is being able to interesting speakers for our business meetings. Each month our committee posts in the ZontaTree a profile of the speaker. This is to encourage our members to invite potential new members to our meeting and invite them to stay for our dinner and interact with our members. Speakers: September - Denyse Churchill, Acting Education Coordinator, Peel Art Gallery Museum and Archives (PAMA). This was very interesting especially for our new members as Denyse pointed out our club many years ago had commissioned a sculpture titled Sisters for the gallery. She updated us on its status and also pointed out the Archives houses many of our clubs records. October - Jasime Chong, Fundraising and Communications Coordinator, Victim Services of Peel. Jasime talked about the South Asian Family Enrichment (SAFE) Program delivered by Victim Services. November - Zonta Birthday Month. It was fitting to have as our speaker, District 4 Governor, Joanne Raymond. She updated us on International and District news and gave an overview of Zonta. This was fitting as we had a number of new potential members at this meeting. December - Christmas party at Clinton’s On Main. Chau Ghent (Flora Florists), provided supplies for us to create our own Christmas center piece. We also had a surprise Christmas gift exchange. It was nice to see that five of our zonta boys attended this event. January - Amelia Earhart Month.
