As I write this it is snowing outside and it is not

even Thanksgiving I am not done playing golf yet

Summertime has been great and we have accomplished many

things over the summer We have participated in many parades

dedications awards ceremonies and fund raising functions at the

Detachment This Detachment is run by and depends on itrsquos sur-

vival a few dedicated Marines and Associates are always there and

say yes to every request of their time if possible The following

letter hits the nail on the head and I hope wakes up some of our

non participating members If you are unable to come to meetings

etc I can give you phone numbers of other members in the same

situation you could call occasionally to check up on No matter

what your situation there is something you can do to help your

detachment and become an active involved member Call or email

me and letrsquos discuss it

We are pursuing the business of running Bingo as a money maker

to pay off the building instead of renting out the hall Standby for

future info on that Your help running it will be needed

Check the online calendar often to see what is going on in the De-

tachment come to our functions recruit members do anything

you can A lot of small efforts will add up to a lot of help

You had inspected your uniform of any imperfection or loose threads When you stepped out in formation to march in the graduation parade you were confident that you were the per-fect Marine That perfect Marine still lives inside you Maybe the outside has changed with a few pounds gained and a few hairs lost and a few years past but if you talk to the inner Marine he is still as hard and perfect as when your Drill Instructor finished his work Now for 238 years you are a part of the finest fighting force ever to go into battle world famous to have never lost a fight When you joined the Marine Corps League and took the Oath you were a sincere and dedicated Marine determined to do your very best By your Oath you promised to govern your conduct in the Leagues affairs and in your personal life in a manner becoming a decent and honorable person Strong words but easy to do if you live for the Perfect Marine who lives inside you When your Drill Instructor ordered you to do anything did you ever think to give him a excuse Did you ever say I dont feel good or I dont have the time or I dont know if I can Your Marine inside of you knows your promises and commitments He is just as hard as your Drill Instructor He is what makes you the honorable the trustworthy the dependa-ble Marine you once were That term Once a Marine Always a Marine is it living in you Right now today your Detachment needs you It is in des-perate need of your commitment It is not asking for 247 It is only asking for just a couple of hours of your time and effort When you joined the League you were re-joining your team In your own eyes you can make it as good as you want but it will take your faithful effort Please think through this letter You can never gain unless you are willing to INVEST The most rewarding job I ever had in the League was when I was a District Vice over two Districts and six Detachments I met many great Marines around the state and count all of them as dear Brothers I am certain that you will not regret becoming more involved in your League Detachment Semper Fidelis Jim Wade Past Department Commandant Marine Corps League

Reader Letter-rdquoOnce a Marine always a Marinerdquo What does this mean Ill give you my description The Marine Corps is the Anvil and the Drill Instructor is the ham-mer The recruit is the raw material volunteered of his own free will where he is heated in the forge driving out all impureness Then he is hammered and beaten into a useable weapon You were no longer an individual you became a part of a fire team a squad a platoon a gun team a tank crew-man or a flight crew All of you remember that special day of graduation when you put on your finest uniform shined shoes perfect haircut even your finger nails trimmed amp clean gtgtgtgtgt

What can you do to help Your Detachment and be an active member

1ndash Attend Meetings and functions If you need a ride let me know and I will try to connect you with another

member who comes to meetings

2ndash Participate in our Car Donation Program We make money from all donated cars boats planes and you

only have to make a phone call to start the process Nothing else is required of you Information here

3- Donate your used ink cartridges to the Detachment Bring them to the Barracks and put them into the box

in the Detachment Office We turn them into Staples and receive a certificate we use to buy office supplies at

Staples

4- Bring you old newspapers to the recycle dumpster in front of the Barracks We get paid by the ton for pa-

per that is recycled No trash or glass No clothing What is accepted is on the dumpster

5ndash We do many BBQrsquos and Breakfast throughout the year Attend work or just enjoy the food and the cama-

raderie of your fellow Marines Bring a friend or Neighbor the more the merrier

6ndash Become a part owner of Marine Barracks Indy by donating to the Plank Program Installment payments

can be made until you reach your goal This money is used for payment on the building and Maintenance and

7- Become an Officer and help lead this Detachment into becoming one of the best in the Marine Corps
