Congratulations to THE
DOOBY SHOP Featured Styl‐
ist
The Dooby Shop at Sunset
honors Lewanda Mickels.
Lewanda is from Rock Hill, SC
and became a licensed stylist in
2010 after studying cosmetol‐
ogy at The Hair Design School in
Charlotte, NC.
She says what originally drew
her to field of cosmetology was
the ability to make money.
However, after receiving the
proper education and under‐
standing of what it takes to main‐
tain healthy hair she says she
became more passionate about
educating and helping her clients
maintain healthy hair. And that
she says makes her career choice
more worthwhile.
What she doesn't like about this
field is having to compete with
the “kitchen beauticians” that
may have the talents but haven't
taken the necessary steps to
become educated.
For those aspiring a career in
cosmetology Lewanda shares
some advice:
1. Learn all you can and stay
humble and be willing to
grow.
2. Never be afraid to ask
questions
3. Get to know your skills
and talents
4. Never compare yourself
to the next—always see
yourself as an equal
So far Lewanda’s favorite crea‐
tion has been a pink Mohawk
that she styled while she was in
school.
The 35 year old stylist is cur‐
rently earning her degree in
Legal Administration but says
that her career in cosmetology
is never ending.
Congratulations Lewanda!

Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse
Rinsing with apple cider vinegar will help balance the pH of your hair and remove the buildup that can result from the use of hair styling products. Vinegar is acidic, so I don’t recommend using this everyday. I only do this
once a week.
What You Need: 1-2 tablespoons of Ap-
ple Cider Vinegar, 2 cups of water.
Directions: Mix items together. I place
my mixture in a spray bottle. Apply the
apple cider vinegar rinse to your hair as a
final rinse after shampooing and condition-
ing, or after a co-wash. Don’t worry about the slight vinegar smell after using, it disappears once your hair is fully dry. If you want to create a larger batch use 1/3 of a cup of ACV to 1 quart of water. Pay attention to how your hair re-sponds to this treatment and adjust the mixture as needed.
Dry Shampoo Rinse I started searching for a dry sham-poo homemade hair recipe after school let out and I resumed my workout schedule. I don’t feel like co-washing my hair every day after I work out and this recipe works well for my lazy sum-mer hair thing that I currently have going on. It’s also cheaper than the current dry shampoo hair products that are currently being sold. And I’m on a budget, lol.
What You Need: 1/2 cup Cornstarch Directions: Sprinkle the cornstarch in your hair, let it absorb for a few min-utes, brush it out. Cornstarch can be a little messy… so use as little as possi-ble.

3 Essential Vitamins for Healthy Hair
Growth
B‐Complex works as a catalyst for the body.
The vitamin contains Biotin and Pantothenic
Acid—two key ingredients aiding in rapid
and healthy hair growth.
Vitamin C is responsible for the develop‐
ment of healthy collagen. A Vitamin C defi‐
ciency can cause split ends and breakage.
Don’t just eat oranges and drink orange
juice to increase Vitamin C. Consider other
foods such as other citrus fruits and mel‐
ons, potatoes and dark green vegetables for
a Vitamin C rich diet.
Vitamin E provides food circulation to the
scalp and creates a perfect condition for
healthy hair.
In addition to a vitamin rich diet try a gen‐
tler approach. Use sulfate free shampoos.
These types of shampoos are designed to
gently cleanse the hair. They are free of
harsh detergents and ingredients that rid
the hair of its natural moisture and fade
color prematurely.
Consult with your stylist to determine what
shampoo is best for your healthy hair regi‐
men.

occurs in parts of the body (usually your
scalp) with high oil (sebum) production.
Most dandruff problems can be resolved for
less with products that you can find at
home. Here is a simple homemade dandruff
treatment recipe involving ginger that I
found earlier.
You can also just dab it on with your fingers while concentrating on your oily areas. If your hair is dry, just rub a bit of your oil of choice (mine is jojoba) on your hair before applying the cornstarch. Most ground grains can be substituted for the cornstarch. My neighbor uses ground oatmeal in her dry shampoo reci-pes. Ginger Dandruff Treatment
Dandruff is a common form of skin eczema that
