Our COURTYARDWe are fortunate to have such a lovely plaza in which to hold our events, especially since the trees shade it so well. Just in case you did not notice, we recently added more tables, chairs, and umbrellas in the center courtyard so that more of you can experi-ence our lovely oasis for lunch, a short work break, or an impromptu business meeting. We also just completed the replacement of the six canopy fabrics in the Dillingham Transportation Building to keep them look-ing fresh. We hope you continue to enjoy the courtyard, one of our tenants’ favorite PGC amenities.

FIRE WARDEN TRAINING May 13th & 14th Some hot topics were covered in this month’s semi-annual Fire Warden Training classes on May 13th & 14th.

Thank you to all our tenants who participat-ed in our first class of the year. The ques-tions you presented were invaluable and we hope you share the answers/information that you obtained from the training with the rest of your fellow employees.

As the National Fire Protection Agency advises, we ask that you continue to train all your employees in fire escape proce-dures, post your floor/suite evacuation plan, conduct regular fire drills, and include disabled employees in your emergency planning. Please contact Building Manage-ment Office at 537-6132 if you need copies of handouts and/or literature from the fire warden training.

E-Waste Event - April 10thTo assist our tenants in the disposal of their unwanted electronic equipment, Pacific Guardian Center held its first of the year e-Waste event on April 10th. Our recycling partner, Pacific Corporate So-lutions, collected CPUs, computer monitors, laptops, servers, printers, UPS backups, and miscellaneous peripherals. Our biannual event generated over 6,400 pounds of e-Waste. Kudos to all Pacific Guardian Center tenants! Your participation helped divert 6,400 pounds of electronic waste out of the landfill.

Remember - discarded computer and other electronic devices cannot be accepted and disposed of as regular trash by law, so look out for the next e-Waste event in October! Mahalo to our wonderful tenants for participating and supporting Pacific Guardian Center’s recycling programs.

Pacific Guardian Center celebrated its annual St. Patrick’s Day event on Friday, March 15th. This year, our tenants celebrated the event in a decorative courtyard filled with vibrant colors of green shamrocks and leprechauns. Pa-cific Guardian Center welcomed a new live band called “Celtic Waves”. They entertained their way in the courtyard with traditional Irish, Scottish, whis-key, seisiún and craic music, and live Irish dance performers by “Irish Dance Hawaii”. Green-themed Tropilicious Ice Cream and Sorbet were distributed to the first 750 tenants during the entertainment. We would like to thank all the tenants who came by to enjoy the festivities.

In our last issue, we introduced you to a few of our ground floor tenants. In this issue we highlight a few more. Check them out and see what great services they offer.

Flores de Mayo (flow-ers of May), is taken from Spanish Flores,

a flower festival celebrated in the month of May. It was another successful event this year as we celebrated Flores De Mayo on Friday, May 10th in the Pacific Guardian Center courtyard. The courtyard was gaily decorated with rays of bright colors and spring flowers. Tenants got to enjoy the soulful Latin vibes of the musical group Son Caribe, while dancing their way to receive their free chicken or beef empanada from Valerio’s Bakery. We would like to thank all who came out to enjoy our Flores De Mayo celebration and especially those who graced us with their smooth salsa moves.

Earth & Health Day - April 19thPacific Guardian Center saw GREEN during our Earth and Health Fair event on April 19th! This year’s event highlighted PGC’s sustainability efforts, building recycling pro-gram, and energy efficiency, as well as information on alternative methods of trans-portation, tips on improving our well-being, and creating healthier workplaces.

Event exhibitors included Honolulu Disposal Service, Inc., Pacific Corporate Solutions, In-Trade Corporation, Chel-sea Group, Hawaii Energy Foundation, DBEDT-Strategic Industries Division, VRide, Blue Planet, NOAA, Hawaiian Building Maintenance, HMAA, American Diabetes Associa-tion, American Heart Association, and American Red Cross.

The presence and enthusiastic participation of PGC tenants contributed to a very successful event. In one hour, we gave away 400 PGC eco-friendly totes, 700 pieces of fruit (compliments of the owners of Pacific Guardian Center), and 300 potted herb plants (cour-tesy of PM Realty Group and Landscape Hawaii, Inc.). We also held a drawing for a participant to win one beautiful PGC tote filled with goodies and giveaways from all the event exhibitors. The lucky winner was Scott LeBeau with DMG Hawaii in DTB 224. Con-gratulations, Scott!

Noticed anything new at PGC lately?

By now you have probably noticed that our newsletter has a fresh look. The newsletter, along with the website, and electronic lobby directory have all been updated with a new and matching design. Our new design better reflects PGC’s commitment to sustainability with its green-inspired foliage background.

If you haven’t been there in a while, visit our website at pacificguardiancenter.com and come back often to find the latest news and events at PGC. And while you are passing through the ground floor lobby (or maybe standing in line for your popcorn on Friday) check out the inter-active touch-screen directory in front of the security office. It sports the updated design, new photos, and proudly displays our LEED Silver certification logo. In fact, now would be a good time to check the listings for both your company and your company’s employees. If you require any updates, contact Building Management so we can make the changes for you.

There are many more exciting changes coming soon and later in the year as we do our best to make your business easy at Pacific Guardian Center. Until then, have a safe and fun-filled summer.
