This project is an experiment in computational design. Data is collected from a peer playing a few measures of Bach’s Cello Suite No 5, and developed into an algorithm. This algorithm produces a graphic representation of an iteration of the piece player by the musician based on pattern and probability extracted from the data. The shape, color, size and spacing of the geometric forms in the final result are based on the movement, amplitude, pitch and time variances of the musician, respectively.

GArdEN OF tHOrNS
This project begins with a preliminary study of the necessary living conditions for sixteen different species of plants. This information is condensed into a graphic diagram, which becomes a guiding design factor throughout the development of the project. It is also a legend that helps to communicate design decisions in diagram form.

AL AqSA MOdEL
This model is a 1:100 representation of the Al Aqsa Mosque completed for a group case study. It was published in the article “Mythic Foundations: Engaging History for Architecture Education” in the International Journal of Architecture Research.

CANAdiAN OLyMPiC ArCHivE
The design of a Canadian Olympic Archive that also includes research facilities, public gallery space and a café. The building users include the general public, researchers and archivists. The building layout focuses on catering to the different privacy and spatial requirements of each user group and the way they interact within the building.

WritEr’S rESidENCE
This project focuses mainly on two criteria critical to the creative process of a writer: inspiration and convenient writing surfaces. The plan is laid out on multiple levels with windows in varying directions. This residence is also equipped with numerous writing surfaces incorporated into the architecture, so as to always provide a convenient place to jot down ideas wherever they might arise.

My work at PBK Architects reflected the traditional role of an architect. For a few small projects, I was sent to work sites to take site measurements and create existing drawing sets. I then worked with a single architect in developing the project and all of its drawings from start to finish. I was given opportunities to make design decisions, work out construction details and present design sketches. Working on small projects was very beneficial as it allowed me to be very involved in the project in its entirety, and to understand it well enough to engage with both clients and contractors. It also gave me opportunities to apply the practical knowledge that I have accumulated over past work terms and in technical courses, to begin to independently design coherent construction details.

My role at HLW International was predominantly to assist a designer in developing interiors for various public lobbies. Over the course of the term, I worked on approximately twenty projects, but focused primarily on two specific projects that required weekly project design development documentation. I was asked to produce numerous iterations of all the necessary drawings and renderings to convey design intentions. Working on such a large number of projects, with many different people and so many different deadlines required me to be very efficient in time management, able to prioritize, and impeccably organized.

Stoffel Lefebvre Architectes is a competition-based firm in Paris. As an international intern, I was brought into the small office of four people as a fresh perspective to develop competition proposals. As an active member of the design team, I partook in discussions about design intention, project phasing, materiality, morphology, circulation and the like. I built a series of study models at different scales, and assisted in developing drawings, diagrams and renderings for competition panels. I also spent some time reviewing accessibility requirements for other small projects.

My first work experience in the architectural field was at Yallowega Bélanger Architects after my first year of architectural studies, as the assistant of a contract administrator. My main tasks consisted of issuing requests for information, site instructions, contemplative change orders and change orders, as well as drafting all the associated details and updating the architects’ drawing set. Every day, I gained knowledge that has continually made me a useful asset to any office I have worked in since. I often accompanied the contract administrator to the construction sites, sometimes to listen in on meetings or discussions, and sometimes only to be allowed to appease my curiosity and explore a construction site. This summer job was my first exposure to the realities of architecture.

My name is Lia Tramontini. I was born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario. My life is a ceaseless series of events that fill my days to the brim. I do not believe in boredom.
Music is a passion of mine. I am a singer, pianist and songwriter. Although campfires are without a doubt my specialty, I also play fund-raisers, festivals and other functions. I love music of all kinds, and my style as an artist is continually changing. I began as a classically trained musician, and moved on to play rock, folk, country, blues, and am now experimenting with jazz.
I am a very active person. I love to run, and do much of my creative brainstorming on the go. I love to compete, perhaps as a result of growing up with an equally competitive older brother. Throughout my life, I have taken just about every opportunity to participate in any sport I could: hockey, volleyball, beach volleyball, basketball, football, tennis, soccer, track and field, badminton, softball, golf, you name it. Playing sports allows me to develop my abilities as a team player and as a leader. Being active keeps me driven.
Architecture is a passion of mine. i do not know how i stumbled upon it, but i did, and i haven’t looked back since. it excites me to create something that others can experience at a livable scale. it fascinates me the way that materials, systems and buildings physically come together. it suits me to be in an occupation where i can be both practical and imaginative. it challenges me to improve upon something that has existed for thousands of years.
If you’ve made it this far, I sincerely hope we will have the chance to sit down and discuss the possibility of working together. I am a quick learner, a hard worker, and a light-hearted individual. I am looking for a work opportunity in an environment where I can be an asset to the team and learn as much as I can to become a good practicing architect.
