INTRODUCTION
The last few years have been challenging for entrepreneurs, in an economy that at best can
be described as sluggish. This conference allows participants to move forward, and to be
inspired by successful entrepreneurs, professionals and academics. Listen carefully, use the
information wisely, as you examine presentations for thought-provoking breakthroughs,

The conference will be a knowledge-enhancing and interactive event which will focus on
critical issues impacting growth innovation and efficiency.

CONFERENCE SPEAKERS
Maureen Denton
(Keynote Speaker)
Maureen Denton currently serves as the CEO, Zimbabwe Agricultural Development Corporation Limited,
where she managed the revitalization of a US$5 million vegetable dehydration factory, as well as the building
of a new cricket stadium. Prior to this, Maureen’s held the position of Vice President & Associate General
Counsel for Goldman Sachs & Co., where as a legal adviser, oversaw multi-million dollar commercial,
development and intellectual property agreements. Maureen commands over 20 years of legal experience in
entrepreneurship and business-related transactions, commencing in 1990. Dr. Denton also acquired her Ph.D.
from The City University of New York and earned her license to practice law having graduated from Columbia
University School of Law. Over the years, Dr. Denton served on numerous boards and held the directorship of
the GraceKennedy International Foods Division. Maureen also lectured in the field of Politics, at Hunter
College, United States.

John Nozell
Topic: “Developing the Entrepreneur: Increasing your Personal Efficiency”
John has been involved in structuring, restructuring, and raising capital for businesses his entire career. As a
former investment banker, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Investment Officer, John brings a wealth of
expertise in finance, management and corporate leadership. He is presently Chief Operating Officer of John G.
Ullman & Assoc., a $750 million wealth management firm, where he has also served on the Board of Directors
since 2006, and chaired the Audit Committee from 2009-2011.As Chief Operating Officer Mr. Nozell plays an
integral part in positioning JGUA as a leader in comprehensive financial management for decades to come.
From 2007-2009, John held the position of Chief Investment Officer of AWAS Aviation Services, Ltd., in Dublin
Ireland, overseeing a portfolio of 225 Commercial Aircraft, and an order for over $6 billion of additional
aircraft. He was also a member of the AWAS Board of Directors. From 2009-2011, John served as Managing
Director of The Seabury Group, heading the firm’s investment banking practice in Europe, Africa, and the
Middle East. From 2003-2007, John was also on the Board of Global Principle Finance Corp (a unit of Merrill
Lynch), for which he chaired the Risk Management Committee, overseeing $1.5 billion of asset acquisitions
and trading activity.
As a JGUA Board member since 2007, John has developed a strong working knowledge of the firm and its
value to clients. John enjoys golf, water skiing, wine collecting and guitar. He and his wife Patricia have three
children.

The Honourable Phillip Paulwell, M.P. Topic: “Overcoming the Challenges of your Business Environment”
The Honourable Phillip Paulwell M.P. is currently Minister of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining, Leader
of Government Business in the House of Representatives and Member of Parliament for the constituency of
Kingston East and Port Royal.
Prior to his latest appointments, Minister Paulwell served as a Government Minister in the People’s National
Party administration between January 1998 and September 2007, his last appointment being Minister of
Industry, Technology, Energy and Commerce.
Among his many achievements as a Government Minister and Member of Parliament, Minister Paulwell is
credited with the liberalization of the telecommunications sector. In 2000 he was the recipient of the Gleaner
Honour Award for implementing historic measures to break the 25-year telecommunications monopoly and
introduce competition in the sector.
Prior to 1995, Minister Paulwell served in very senior positions in the Government of Jamaica – Legal Officer
of the Jamaica Commodity Trading Company Limited, Executive Director and Trade Administrator of the
Trade Board Limited and as the first Executive Director of the Fair Trading Commission.
Those appointments followed his graduation from the University of the West Indies (LL.B Hons, 1986) and
the Norman Manley Law School (Certificate in Legal Education, 1988). While pursuing his graduate studies,
he also served as part time Lecturer and Tutor in Company Law at the Excelsior Community College and the
College of Arts Science and Technology (now the University of Technology).

Ian K. Levy Topic: “Real Life Entrepreneurship”
Ian Kent Levy has over thirty years experience in business and has been at the helm of some of Jamaica’s most
successful organizations. These include the well recognized IAN K. (Agencies) Ltd which established a foreign
trade and investment relationship with French companies and the Government of Jamaica and the
internationally sought after restaurant “Norma’s on the Terrace.” Mr. Levy was also one of the founders of
highly acclaimed Supreme Ventures Ltd. Lottery Company. His dynamism and outstanding accomplishment
as an entrepreneur earned him the 2005 “The Ordre National du Merite” which is one of the highest awards
given by the Government of France. This award is rarely conferred on a non-French citizen.
Along with his success in business, Mr. Levy has a passion for national service and philanthropy; in fact this is
not his first time serving on a Government appointed Board as he served earlier on the Board of the Jamaica
Bauxite Institute. As a philanthropist he has worked with several charities in Jamaica and France including
the “Missionaries of the Poor.” He is also a founding member of “Cornerstone Ministries” and “Project Help”.
Mr. Levy was appointed to the Board of the Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority in February 2012.
Through Mr. Levy’s own company, Ian K Agencies Limited, he has provided the government with well needed
products for the smooth running of the country. These include Renault garbage trucks and more recently the
automatic palm and finger identification system to be used by the Jamaica Constabulary Force.

Winsome Minott Topic: “Accounting & Taxes for Business Success”
Winsome Minott is the Chief Executive Officer of Mint Corporation Limited and Mint Management & Finance
Services Limited. She has provided invaluable assistance to the small business sector in excess of twenty
years. Her experience spans the financial, retail, manufacturing and tourism sectors. She started her career
as an Assistant Accountant at Jamaica Development Bank, Chartered Secretary in the offices of Messrs.
Touche Ross Thorburn & Company now Deliote & Touche, and later CEO at Mint Corporation Limited and
Mint Management & Finance Services Limited
Winsome acted as the Registrar of National Continental Corporation Limited (A Public Company formerly
listed on the Jamaica Stock Exchange). She also served on the Board of Directors of several companies
including Enterprise Development Trust (EDT), and the University of Technology Entrepreneurial Centre
(UTECH). She also contributed to the proposed amendments to the latest Jamaican Company Law.
Winsome is currently Company Secretary for Supreme Ventures Limited and a member of the Audit
Committee of Key Insurance Company Limited. She holds a Masters Degree in Accounting and is a member of
the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators. She is also a member of the Institute of Chartered
Accountants of Jamaica (ICAJ). Winsome has done extensive research in the field of Business Development.

Bruce Scott
Topic: “Risk Management: Quantifying your Risk”
Bruce Scott, FCA, FCCA, CISA, MBA, CBCP, CISM, CPA, CFE, CIA, CRISC - Partner
Bruce L Scott has been involved in risk management since 1993. He is the partner in charge of
PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Jamaica, Enterprise Risk Management and Internal Audit Services practices.
Bruce has close to 21 years of risk management, financial, operational, IT audit, internal audit, information
security, business process controls and business continuity planning experience. Bruce has been trained in
the firm’s ERM methodology in the PwC London office. Bruce also spent six months in PwC Toronto on a tour
of duty, in their Global Risk Management Solutions (GRMS) practice, where he further honed his risk
management skills.
Bruce has led and performed several enterprise level risk assessments for companies in the financial services,
manufacturing, insurance and retail services. These assessments involve the identification of strategic,
compliance, technology, human resources and operational etc objectives, the risks that could thwart those
objectives and the controls in place to address these risks.
Bruce holds a number of credentials in various fields (he is a certified information systems auditor (CISA), he
is certified in risk and information systems control (CRISC), a certified information security manager (CISM),
a certified business continuity planner (CBCP), a certified internal auditor (CIA), a certified public accountant
(CPA), USA, a chartered accountant (UK/Jamaica), a certified fraud examiner (CFE) and holds an MBA from
Manchester Business School, UK) and therefore is able to bring a comprehensive view on various types of
risks and controls.

Mariame McIntosh
Topic: “Raising Business Capital”
As a Senior Vice President of Portland Private Equity, Mariame is part of the investment team and is focused
on deal origination, diligence, structuring, documentation, and mentoring. She has spent over eight years as a
strategy consultant with Bain & Company and McKinsey & Company. She attended Oxford University as a
Rhodes Scholar and is an alumnus of both M.I.T. and Harvard University. Mariame co-founded "Nation
Building," an organization that brings African-American graduate students together.
Stefanie Thomas Topic: “Your Business Plan”
Stefanie Thomas is business development consultant for Mint Management and Finance Services Ltd and
team coordinator of Katalyxt. She is Creative Director of Artistic Expressions Limited, a company committed
to the promotion of the Visual, Performing and Literary Arts in Jamaica and Caribbean. Stefanie has
spearheaded the development of Cultural Fusion, a festival promoting cultural exchange primarily through
dance and music. Stefanie also hosts exhibitions and involved in initiatives to make the arts more accessible
in Jamaica and the Caribbean. Stefanie is an award winning writer whose blog
www.culturalvoice.blogspot.com won the 2012 award for best Art & Photography Blog in Jamaica. A former

Youth Ambassador Stefanie has a Masters in Economic Development Policy from the University of the West
Indies Mona, and an Undergraduate Degree in Biology and Economics from Colgate University in NY, USA.
Valerie Crawford “Your Business Plan”
Valerie Crawford is the Manager of Trade Financing and Risk Management at the EXIM Bank Jamaica. The
EXIM Bank’s mandate is to assist Jamaica’s Productive Sector to succeed. Valerie Crawford has extensive
experience working with Jamaican Businesses and analyzing funding options available and opportunities for
export promotion. Mrs. Crawford has spearheaded many collaborations for the EXIM Bank including with
JAMPRO and with the Jamaica Development Bank of Jamaica.
Maurice McNaughton “Special Consultation and Product Launches”
Dr Maurice McNaughton pursued his PhD studies in Decision Sciences at Georgia State University, and
combines that accomplishment with over 15 years senior management and leadership experience in the
planning and direction of enterprise-level Information Technology in organizations. He is currently Director
of the Centre of Excellence at the Mona School of Business, where he is evolving an Application-oriented
Research Agenda around the use of ICTs to enable Business Innovation in the Small Medium Enterprise sector
in Jamaica and the Caribbean. He has a strong passion for higher education and has taught courses in
Software Economics, Business Statistics & Modeling, Data Analysis and Decision Support Systems.

Dalma James “Structure your Business for Success”
Dalma James is CEO of Dalma James and Associates, Immediate Past President of the Small Business
Association of Jamaica and former Director of the National Development Foundation of Jamaica. Mr. James is
a graduate of the University of West Indies with a B.Sc in Management Studies and a M.Sc in Accounting. A
member of the ICAJ and ACCA with over 20 years experience in Audit, Accounting, Taxation, Management and
Financial Consulting and Systems Development. As an auditor, accountant and management consultant Mr.
James has worked with companies to develop long and short-term strategic business and financial plans;
design and implement comprehensive financial, cost control and management reporting systems.
Lisa Bell “Raising Business Capital”
Lisa Simone Bell has been Managing Director of The National Export-Import Bank of Jamaica Limited (EXIM
Bank) since May 3, 2010. Mrs. Bell has over twenty years experience in providing financial, analytical, project
and general management expertise in both the private and public sectors. She has held key managerial
positions in the financial services sector and within the public sector. Along with her stellar management
performance She has a wealth of knowledge of credit and financial services especially as it relates to SMEs
and the Export Sector. Mrs. Bell left the Jamaican Trade and Invest (JAMPRO) at the position of Deputy
President, after contributing over eight years to the national investment and export agency. Prior to that, she
served as Deputy General Manager and General Manager for Alpha Financial Services Limited and Victoria

Mutual Investments Limited respectively. Mrs. Bell also worked overseas with both Anderson Consulting and
the City of Miami Department of Management & Budget, after completing her formal education. Upon her
return to Jamaica, she served as Corporate Credit Manager for Citizens Bank Jamaica Limited. She serves as a
Director of The National Export-Import Bank of Jamaica Limited. Mrs. Bell holds a Master of Business of
Administration with a specialization in Finance, and also a Bachelors of Business Administration from the
University of Miami, Florida, USA.
Maureen Hayden-Cater “Raising Business Capital”
Mrs. Maureen Hayden-Cater was appointed to the position of President, First Global Bank Ltd., effective
August 1, 2010.
Mrs. Hayden-Cater brings to First Global Bank several years of diverse banking experience, gained during her
twenty-two year tenure at Citibank N.A. Jamaica. She has served in a number of executive positions, which
include Global Transaction Services & Commercial Bank Head, Risk Management Head, and Head of
International Trade Finance. She also served as Corporate Bank Head and Country Risk Manager in
Tegucigalpa, Honduras, for four years.
A graduate of the University of the West Indies, Mona, Mrs. Hayden-Cater holds a Master of Science degree in
Economics, specializing in Quantitative Economics and Econometrics, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in
Economics and Mathematics.
Mrs. Hayden-Cater is married with two daughters. She speaks Spanish, enjoys reading, exercising, community
service and is an active member of her church.

Radcliff Knibbs “Real Deal Business”
Radcliff Knibbs is the Co-Managing Director of CMK Limited, owner of eight Juici Patties restaurant
franchises. He began his career in 1983 as a self employed trader in seafoods, selling to hotel and
restaurant concerns. Radcliff subsequently worked in marketing at both the Jamaica National Export
Corporation (1985 to 1987) and Shell Chemicals Jamaica Limited (1987 to 1989) before moving into
the Juici Patties business as Managing Director of Inglewood Investment Limited, owner of the
Inglewood restaurant.
Radcliff is a graduate of the Executive M.B.A. program at Florida International University, where he
was awarded a leadership award, and also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Pure and Applied
Chemistry (Hons.) from the University of the West Indies. Radcliff is a former member of the board of
directors of the Civil Aviation Authority (2004 to 2011) and Rosemount Primary and Junior High
School.
Ewan D. A. Simpson “Intellectual Property”
Ewan Simpson, Attorney-at-Law, holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) in Intellectual Property Law, from the
University of Turin (Italy) which he obtained after studies at The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona
(B.A. Geography) and Cave Hill (LL.B), as well as the Norman Manley Law School.

A multidimensional, creative and analytical mind, Simpson is a mentor, advocate and lecturer in the areas of
Intellectual Property Law, Entertainment Law and Artiste Management, and has Co-hosted or appeared as
guest presenter on several radio talkshows, addressing areas of concern to the enhancement and
development of the Creative Industries in Jamaica.
A former President and Chief Musical Arranger of the University Singers, Simpson currently serves as Musical
Director of the National Dance Theatre Company of Jamica (NDTC), as National Adjudicator and Workshop
facilitator in music and the Performing Arts for the JCDC and has toured the world extensively as an
instrumentalist, vocalist and performance coach, Artiste manager as well as artiste development and
Intellectual Property expert.
Clive Vassell “Supply Chain Efficiency”
Clive Vassell is a supply chain professional with over thirty years experience in Jamaican manufacturing
industry. He has worked for Alcoa, Caribbean Cement Company, Hardware & Lumber Limited, and Seprod
Limited in areas such as contracts management, procurement, distribution management, and materials
management. He has also been involved in a number of ERP system launches and upgrades.
For the past eight years he has lectured at the University of Technology, Jamaica, in Decision Science, Project
Management, Service Operations Management, and Supply Chain Management. He has conducted workshops
for industry practitioners and presented at conferences for small enterprises. He has a Diploma in
Mechanical Engineering from CAST, a BSc Management Studies from UWI, and an MBA from the University of
New Orleans. He is also a member of APICS the Association for Operations Management.
