    3.0. PRIVATE COMMERCIAL RADIO STATIONS

    3.1. CAPITAL RADIO

    The station gave much of its airtime to issues on entertainment and sports at 58%. This was

    followed by political and governance issues at 10% and human rights, crime and courts at 9%.The pie chart below presents how the rest of the issues were given airtime on Capital Radio.

    3.2. POWER 101

    As a youth oriented radio station, Power 101 allocated much of its airtime to entertainment

    and sports. Human Rights issues were given 8% of the airtime, followed by foreign content at

    6% while politics and governance and economy were allocated 5%. The rest of the categories

    shared almost equal airtime as shown by the pie chart below.

    3.3. ZODIAK BROADCASTING STATION

    The station allocated 32% of its airtime to issues on sports and entertainment while human

    rights issues were allocated substantial airtime at 19%. This was followed by economy,

    business, development and agriculture at 13%. The chart below presents the rest of the issues

    and how they were given airtime on ZBS.

    3.4. STAR FM

    Star FM allocated 30% of its airtime to issues on entertainment and sports followed by religion

    at 17%. Foreign content got 14%. Human rights issues were allocated 11% of the airtime while

    issues on politics and governance and economy, business, development and agriculture got 9%.

    3.5. MATINDI FM

    Matindi Radio station allocated 32% of its airtime to entertainment and sports while issues on

    human rights and foreign content got 16% and 14% respectively. Categories of politics and

    governance and economy, business and development each got 11%. Below is a chart showing

    The public broadcaster gave much of its airtime to issues on business, agriculture and development at

    27%. Issues on entertainment and sports were allocated 24% of the airtime. The pie chart below

    The category that got much of the airtime on Galaxy FM is entertainment at 44%. Issues on politics and

    governance and human rights and courts got 13% each. This was followed by economy, business,

    agriculture and development that got 12%. The chart below presents the rest of the airtime allocation.

    Joy Radio allocated much of its airtime to issues on sports and entertainment that got 39%. Issues on

    human rights and courts followed at 19%. The rest of the categories were allocated airtime as shown in

    3.10. MBC RADIO 2

    On MBC Radio 2 the two categories of sports and entertainment and economy, business, agriculture and

    development each got 21% of the total broadcast time. This was followed by foreign content at 17% and

    human rights at 14%. The other categories were allocated airtime as indicated by the pie chart below.

    On MBC TV issues on economy, business, agriculture and development got 28% of the airtime closely

    followed by sports and entertainment at 26%. Below is how other categories were allocated the airtime.

    4.1. RADIO MARIA

    Typical of a religious radio station, Radio Maria allocated 68% of its airtime to religious programmes. The

    rest of the issues were allocated airtime as presented in the pie chart below.

    Issues on religion dominated the airwaves at Transworld Radio as this was allocated 33% of the

    airtime. This was followed by entertainment. Below is a chart indicating how the rest of the

    Calvary Family Church radio gave 65% of its airtime to religious issues. This was followed by

    entertainment and human rights at 105 and 9% respectively. Below is how the remaining categories

    Note:As expected most of the religious stations allocated a higher percentage of airtime to religious

    programmes. However, some stations allocated substantial airtime to other categories. Worthy

    mentioning is the time Radio Islam allocated to issues on Politics and Governance. The station together

    with Living Waters and TransWorld also allocated considerable airtime to issues on Human rights,

    courts, security and police.
