Submission of data: In order to establish a common basis for judging submittals, entrants will present to the jury a submission for each project in the format defined for the AIA San Diego Design Awards.

Eligible projects: Awards competition is open to commercial, institutional, and high-rise residential built projects only, which are located within the SDG&E service territory. Single family residences are not eligible.

Provide the following additional information for Savings by Design Energy Efficiency Integration Awards:

1. One-page energy model performance summary (e.g. Energy-Pro UTIL-1 Report) Insert another white EEIA slide after this one and paste a copy of the report on the slide.

2. Project Synopsis: A narrative(maximum 500 words) describing how the project integrates energy efficiency and sustainable strategies into the building design. Describe the building’s condition and deficiencies prior to work. Discuss how historic features were saved and restored/reused. Describe all major alterations, code upgrades, and additions. Explain any creative treatments, unique craftsmanship, or technological achievements. The project will be evaluated using The Secretary of the Interior’s Standards. Include historic and before and after images.

Urban Solutions AwardUrban Solutions AwardRecognizing distinguished achievements that involve the expanding role of the Architect in urban design, regional and

city planning, and community development. Identifying projects and programs that contribute to the quality of these environments.

Urban Design is defined for the awards program as the realm of physical design encompassing master planning and landscape plans to conceptual architectural design. This definition includes research and the design of spaces at all scales: from places between buildings to regional master plans. It looks at time from the conception and expression of an idea to the many phases of a master plan.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Submission of data: In order to establish a common basis for judging submittals, entrants will present to the jury a submission for each project in the format defined for the AIA San Diego Design Awards.

Eligible projects: Urban design projects, planning programs, civic improvements, campus plans, regional plans, environmental programs, or redevelopment projects. Projects should not be individual buildings. Entries should explore a wide spectrum of urban planning . Please click here for more information on the types of solution areas.  

Special Instructions for Photographs and Images. Drawings, images, model images, and other materials must describe the overall context and scope of the project and design intent, complete with an indication of the scale of the plans, a North arrow for the site and floor plans if applicable. Also include an indication of the locale and/or climate type. Any sustainable-design strategies should be illustrated in section, plan, elevation, or conceptual diagram. Submissions must include an aerial photograph or site plan with a clear depiction of the area of the work, a north arrow and a scale.

Provide the following additional information for the AIASD Urban Solutions Award:

• A one-page narrative that includes a statement of the problem and its goals, size, cost, and implementation schedule (as applicable) and describes the design process and community involvement and acceptance.

• Project Synopsis: Provide a narrative (maximum 500 words) describing the important urban design and landscape architecture concepts, the urban design issues and key urban design concepts (emphasizing process and implementation) with a description of the merits that justify consideration for an award. The time period(s) of the project must be clearly stated as well as a brief statistical summary of areas and counts for the work(s). Work(s) can be projects, designs, plans, papers and publications. Areas of projects can include campuses, transit centers, resorts, downtowns, town centers, parts of cities, neighborhoods, parks, trails, and open space. Submissions cannot include public relations materials.

to individuals who have shown exceptional leadership and made significant contributions to the profession in an early stage of their architectural career.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Specific Entry Requirements:The following materials should be provided as a single PDF file smaller than 6 MB in the order listed not to exceed 24 pages in

a single (1) CD labeled “Last Name First Name-YAYA2013”:

1. A biography of the nominee, not to exceed two pages, including a list of offices, positions, honors, publications, and presentations that relate to the purpose of the award.

2. A one-page statement of contributions that illustrates the effect of the work. 3. Exhibits of a maximum of 15 pages with images and/or drawings or other materials that best demonstrate

the outstanding accomplishments. These files can be formatted in 11x17 size if desired.4. Two one-page letters of support that are explicit in their recommendation and contain specific reasons for support

(the one page letter is to be written on company letterhead containing an original or electronic signature)

Additionally, the following material should also be provided in the same CD:1. A digital photo/image (one black-and-white head shot or portrait) of the nominee in a JPEG format and

labeled as “Last Name First Name” minimum 350 x 350 pixel size and no larger than 3” x 5” at 72 dpi.2. Applicant Release Form, Statement of Work, and Photo Release form. ALL FORMS CAN BE FOUND ON THE DESIGN

The Un-built Vision Award will be presented to projects of note designed by registered architects that are not currently realized in physical form or not currently under construction. The project submitted must be funded, but not yet built or designed, but not yet funded.

Eligibility: Projects of any typology, with the involvement of a licensed Mexican architect or firm, lead design or of record.

Requirements: Submissions do not require AIA membership for preferred application fee., otherwise, all general requirements apply including 20” X 20” project image.

2013 AIA San Diego Patron of the Year AwardPatron of the Year AwardThe AIA San Diego Annual Design Awards introduces a new award in the special recognition category; Patron of the

Year. This award honors a corporation, institution or organization which, by commissioning and executing a project(s), significantly advances San Diego County’s outstanding built environment. Presented by AIA San Diego, the award celebrates the entrepreneurial spirit, vision and commitment of patrons of San Diego’s architecture.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Eligibility: Patrons of architectural projects completed in San Diego County are eligible for nomination for the Patron of the Year awards. Patrons and projects may be nominated into the following categories: commercial, institutional, governmental and interiors.

Requirements: Submission to include a statement attesting to the ways the nominee contributed to great design in San Diego County as well as a description of the project(s) including typology, physical dimensions, primary materials, LEED status (if applicable), budget and 20” X 20” project image.
