IT’SBEENAWHIlE• For the first time in nearly 20 years, the Terriers faced back-to-back opponents (North Dakota, Cornell) which they had losing all-time records against entering the games. • It actually happened twice during the 1993-94 season, most recently when BU took on both Min-nesota and Lake Superior State in the 1994 Frozen Four. BU was 0-2 against LSSU heading the 1994 title game thanks to a forfeited win in 1972. • The rarity also happened in November that season, when BU faced Maine and Cornell back-to-back. The Terriers now lead their all-time series with the Black Bears and are an even 12-12-2 against the Gophers.

SPECIAl-TEAMSSUCCESS• The Terriers have successfully killed off 22 of their opponents’ last 24 power-play chances. • BU has scored at least one power-play goal in seven of its past nine games.

MIDDlE-PERIODBONANZA• BU is outscoring its opponents in the second period by a 20-8 margin but has scored just 17 goals this season in the first and third periods combined. • 11 of the Terriers’ last 21 goals have come in the middle period. • BU is being outscored 22-8 in the third period.

DISCIPlINED• After averaging at least 15 penalty minutes per game in each of the past five seasons, the Terri-ers are only averaging 10.1 penalty minutes per contest thus far this season.• BU finished in the top eight nationally in pen-alty minutes each of the past three seasons.

BAlANCEDATTACK• The Terriers boast arguably the most balanced scoring attack in the country, as its top four

scorers are separated by a point and each have at least 11 points this season. • BU’s first eight goals of the season were scored by eight different players.• Through 15 games, 13 Terriers already have at least one goal.

DEFENSECREATINGOFFENSE• BU ‘s defensemen have combined to score 35 points (7g, 28a) this season. • The d-pair of senior Ahti Oksanen (2g, 9a) and Garrett Noonan (3g, 8a) is tied for second on the team in scoring.• Of BU’s first nine goals this season, Oksanen factored in seven of them (1g, 6a). • In the victory over Wisconsin, three Terrier defensemen had multi-point evenings: Garrett Noonan (1g, 2a), Ahti Oksanen (1g, 1a), Matt Grzelcyk (1g, 1a). That was the first time that had happened since an 8-0 victory at Providence on Jan. 21, 2012. The three players then were Alexx Privitera (2a), Max Nicastro (1g, 2a) and Noonan (1g, 1a).

FRESHMANSPARK•Freshman forward Robbie Baillargeon leads the team in points with 12 on five goals and seven as-sists. He shares the team lead in plus-minus with sophomore Matt Lane at +5.•All 12 of his points have come in the last 12 games.•He’s been named a Hockey East Top Performer four times this season and is ranked tied for 19th in the nation in points per game amongst rookies (0.80). lANEHEATSUP• Dating back to last season, 13 (5g, 8a) of Matt Lane’s 17 career points have come in his last 21 games. He has already surpassed his point total from his freshman season.• In the Terriers’ last 12 games, Lane has nine

Garrett Noonan earned two assists and Matt O’Connor made 21 saves for BU in his first start since Feb. 26.•BU got on the scoreboard first at 10:43 of the opening period when O’Regan got ahead of the Holy Cross defense, drew a penalty and then roofed a shot over netminder Matt Ginn. • Roberto scored his first collegiate goal shortly after Holy Cross made it a 1-1 game to help BU regain the lead for good. •Hohmann gave BU a 3-1 advantage on a power play with 4:52 left in the second. •Holy Cross made it a one-goal game again when Adam Schmidt weaved through the BU defense and slid the puck around O’Connor’s left skate at 3:59 of the third period.•That would be as close as the visitors would get, however, as O’Connor and the Terrier defense with-stood a late push to remain undefeated after opening weekend.

INTHEOPENER• Thanks to a three-goal spurt early in the second, BU opened its season under first-year head coach David Quinn with a 3-1 home victory over Massachusetts on Oct. 11.• Following a scoreless first period, three Terriers got on the scoreboard within the first eight minutes of the second to break open the game. Ahti Oksanen assisted on all three tallies.• In goal, Sean Maguire turned in an impressive 39-save performance for the Terriers. The Minutemen spoiled Maguire’s shutout bid midway through the third before BU closed out the 3-1 win.• Garrett Noonan opened the scoring just 1:02 into the second period when he skated down the slot be-fore beating UMass netminder Steve Mastalerz. Evan Rodrigues and Oksanen each kicked off multi-point nights with assists on the play.• Tommy Kelley doubled the lead less than four minutes later with the game-winner - his first col-legiate goal - on a power play with helpers from Cason Hohmann and Oksanen. After taking a pass from Oksanen, Rodrigues made it a 3-0 contest at the 7:32 mark with a shot from the right circle that beat Mastalerz high blocker.• Massachusetts’ lone goal came from Steven Iacobel-lis at the left circle on a power play at 10:24 of the final period. • Mastalerz made 21 saves in net for UMass, which held a 40-24 show advantage.

Former Boston University associate head coach and Colorado Avalanche assistant David Quinn was named the 11th head coach in the storied history of the Boston University men’s ice hockey program on March 26, 2013.

Quinn, who played at BU from 1984-88, replaced his former head coach and mentor, Jack Parker, who announced his retirement after 40 seasons at the helm of the Terrier program.

An All-Hockey East and All-New England defenseman at BU and a co-captain during his senior year of 1987-88, Quinn came back to campus in 2004 to become the team’s associate head coach, a role he served in for five seasons. Quinn’s recruiting efforts were instrumental in helping build BU’s 2009 national championship team. During his time as associate head coach, he worked primarily with the team’s defensemen, turning the unit into arguably the best in the nation. All six of the defensemen from the 2009 title squad have reached the National Hockey League.

After helping the Terriers reach the pinnacle of college hockey, Quinn left to join the Avalanche organization as the head coach of its American Hockey League affiliate in Cleveland, the Lake Erie Monsters. He compiled a 115-94-7-20 record in three seasons with Lake Erie and guided the Monsters to their first-ever playoff berth in 2010-11. He was named an assistant coach on former BU teammate Joe Sacco’s staff at Colorado prior to this season.

Quinn’s coaching career, which began as an assistant at Northeastern University at 1994, has also been highlighted by several successful stints with USA Hockey. Prior to serving as the Terriers’ associate head coach, he spent two years as head coach of the Under-17 Team.

Playing against older opponents, the U17 team qualified for the North American Hockey League playoffs for only the third time in program history, finishing with a record above .500 for the first time ever. The squad owned a 10-3 record in international play, including a first-place finish at the Four Nations Cup in Magnitogorsk, Russia, and at the Under-18 Four Nations Vlado Druzilla in Piestany, Slovakia, where the team played up an age group. For his accomplishments, USA Hockey named Quinn as the 2003 USA Hockey Developmental Coach of the Year.

Quinn’s coaching career began prematurely, as it was thought he would enjoy an excellent playing career both on the international and professional levels. A member of the U.S. National Junior Team that captured the bronze medal at the 1986 IIHF World Junior Championship, Quinn made himself a strong candidate for the 1988 and 1992 U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey Teams. In addition, he was the 13th player selected in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft when the Minnesota North Stars made him their first-round selection.

However, his hopes for an Olympic Team berth and a career in the NHL came to an end prior to his senior year at BU when he was diagnosed with a blood disorder called Christmas Disease that ultimately ended his hockey-

playing career. After trying to play two seasons of professional hockey, he took the assistant position at Northeastern, where he was responsible for recruiting, off-ice conditioning, scouting and video coordination.

In July 1996, Quinn was named the top assistant coach and head recruiter for the University of Nebraska Omaha. There he helped establish the school’s first Division I men’s ice hockey program, which began playing during the 1997-98 season.

Quinn then joined the USA Hockey National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Mich. The program, designed to prepare student-athletes under the age of 18 for participation on U.S. National Teams and to develop their future hockey careers, focuses its efforts on high-caliber participation on the ice and creating well-rounded individuals off the ice.

Quinn served as an assistant coach for the U.S. National Team at four IIHF World Championships -- two with the men’s team (2007, 2012) and two with the women’s squad (1999, 2000). He helped the women earn the silver medal at both tournaments and also served as an on-ice assistant at the 2001 U.S. Women’s Olympic Trials and as a boys’ coach at the 1995 and 1996 USA Hockey Select Festivals. His involvement with the USA Hockey coaching ranks began in 1995, when he served as a member of the coaching staff for the U.S. Women’s Select Camp.

A native of Cranston, R.I., Quinn earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology from BU in 1989.
