Volunteer Opportunities

Shelby County Arts Council - The mission of the Shelby County Arts Council (SCAC) is to support, nurture, and promote the arts and cultural opportunities in Shelby County. The Arts Council enhances the quality of life for Shelby County residents and helps to promote economic growth and tourism.

SCAC needs help with many of their events by helping set the room for various events and greet patrons. For some events ticket sellers are needed. With Gallery openings shifts can be accommodated. Gallery sitters are needed on Saturdays this summer to answer the phone, take messages, greet visitors and other related activities (shifts are possible)..

Relay for Life, Shelby County - Each year, more than 4 million people in over 20 countries take part in this global phenomenon and raise much-needed funds and awareness to save lives from cancer. During a Relay event, participants and survivors celebrate what they've overcome during the Survivors Lap.

This is an opportunity for your group (volunteer station) to develop a team for one of the Shelby County events. Shelby Count relay event locations are:

Oliver City Park – Calera, May 3 Columbiana Sports Complex, May 10 Pelham High School May 17

Forming a team, fundraising, or volunteering for the American Cancer Society can be accomplished by calling 930-8860 or visit RelayForLife.org/bhamrelays.

Survivor Lap is an event where survivors take the first lap around the track, celebrating their victory over cancer while cheered on by other participants who line the track. Caregivers who gave time, love, and support to their friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers facing cancer are celebrated.A Luminaria Ceremony takes place after dark to remember people lost to cancer, honor people who fought cancer in the past, and support those whose fight continues.
