2012 Westminster Griffins Women’s VolleyballPage 2 • WestminsterGriffins.com

Kim Norman begins her ninth season as the head coach of the Westminster women’s

volleyball program. During her time at the helm, Westminster has compiled a 121-115

record, making Norman the most successful coach in school history.

Under the direction of Norman, Westminster has posted three winning seasons with two

20-win years. The team won the Frontier Conference championship in both 2005 and

2006. They qualified for the NAIA National Championships for the first time in 2007.

The Griffins have had 19 All-Frontier Conference performers and won two conference

player of the year awards. Norman was the 2005 Frontier Conference coach of the

year. Westminster has also had 11 NAIA Scholar Athletes and 61 Academic All-Frontier Conference performers

in the eight years with Norman as head coach.

When Norman took over the team in 2004, they were coming off a 1-32 season. The first season under

Norman they went 14-14, the first non-losing season in school history. That season was followed up with a 16-

13 season and a Frontier Conference Tournament championship. The 2006 season saw another school first–a

20-win season. They finished 22-12 and claimed a share of the Frontier Conference regular season title while

advancing to the NAIA Region I Tournament for a second time.

The 2007 season was the best in school history. Norman guided the team to a 25-12 overall record and they

qualified for the NAIA National Tournament for the first time ever.

Norman began her college coaching career at Utah State University in 1987, where she coached and earned

an MS in physical education. After one season as second assistant coach for the USU women’s volleyball team,

Norman took over the USU collegiate men’s program as their head coach from 1988–1991. Her concern that

volleyball athletes were being recruited only from Southern California led her to start an arm of USA Volleyball

now called the Intermountain Volleyball Association. As founder and CEO since its inception in 1990, Norman

is responsible for making Utah one of the nation’s powerhouses in the Junior Olympic Volleyball Club world.

As Head Coach of Highland High School in Salt

Lake City, Utah, Norman compiled a 296-92 record

over 12 seasons. Under her coaching, the Rams

made it to every state championship tournament

from 1992–2003 and won the Utah High School

State Championship in 1996 and 1997. Those

championship teams were led by USA Olympian Logan

Tom.
