Tim LANGFORDHead Men’s Track & Field CoachNinth Season •Radford ‘00

Tim Langford took the reins as the CSU Head Men’s Track & Field Coach on August 1, 2003. During his tenure he has elevated the men’s program to a top tier program in the Big South Conference. Immedi-ately, Langford went to work, showing his prowess as a recruiter by doubling his team size with his first recruiting class. In addition to the increase in the quantity of performers, the quality of performances has also improved. In his first two years, Langford compiled over sixty conference-scoring performanc-es. In fact, Langford’s athletes have broken every indoor sprint record from the 60 meters to the mile. Since Langford’s arrival, he has had 23 NCAA Re-gional qualifiers, two NCAA National qualifiers, two USA Junior National qualifiers and an Olympic Trials qualifier. In addition, he has had three Big South Male Track Athlete of the Year selections, the 2007-08 Big South Indoor Track Freshman of the Year, and has been named the Big South Coach of the Year twice.

Before joining the CSU family, Coach Langford spent two years at fellow Big South Conference member High Point University in High Point, North Carolina. As the Assistant Cross Country & Track & Field coach at High Point, Coach Langford helped the Pan-thers attain the first ever division I conference cham-pionship in cross country. Langford also helped lead the Panthers in attaining numerous individual confer-ence champions & All Conference performances; ranging from the sprints, jumps, and relays. In fact, Langford’s Women’s 4x400 meter relay team never lost a conference championship while under his lead-ership. Langford’s athletes also set several Big South Conference meet records; the 4x400 meter relay, and women’s long jump to mention a few.

Langford went to High Point after spending a year at Heritage High School in Lynchburg, Virginia. There he coached several state qualifiers in the sprints and jumps. Langford had an easy transition into coaching. This is largely due to being able to coach at his alma mater where he found comfort in the same system, and staff, to which he came from.

Coach Langford has also experienced a successful athletic career. As an athlete at Radford University, Coach Langford was the first Big South Conference Champion in Track & Field in school history. The 5’7” Langford set an indoor conference record in the high jump at 6’10.75”. He won all but one Outdoor Con-ference Championship in the high jump. Coach also set school records in the High Jump, Triple Jump, 4 x 100m, and 4 x 400m. He scored conference points for the Highlanders in the high, long, and triple jumps, both sprint relays, and the 110m hurdles.

Langford married the former Lisa Holmes on Oct. 18, 2008 and the couple resides in North Charleston.
