THE RUCKSACK WILLIES – PROJECT RATIONALE

The client for this project was the ragtag, folk band The Rucksack Willies. For their debut album “Letters to Anne” they were looking for a package that would set the tone for the album by incorporating the theme of letter writing. The hand-drawn lettering and hand-written lyrics achieve this, as well as the postage stamp montage created using scans of old letters and ephemera.

The objective of this project was to create a package that would visually represent the music it contains. The beautiful photographs, well worn colour scheme and hand-rendered typography work together to evoke the nostalgic and wistful thoughts that are present in the lyrics of the songs.

All photographs used in the packaging are by Alexander Browne.
