George Beloz 1026 Golden Meadow Rd. Corona, CA 92882 (951) 642-0717 [email protected] This is a memorable item to be with so many Bowen

alumni, at our 55th anniversary event in Lombard. It's nice to be able to see you again! Ruth and I have been married for 52 years. We have two daughters, who are teachers here in town, four grandchildren, and I'm still playing the piano as never before. We have traveled and lived in Europe and Latin American for many years while I was in the U.S. Foreign Service and U.S. Army. I earned a PhD. from SIU, and published a monograph, "History On The Life of Colonel James Harvey Bowen, As It Relates To The 100th Anniversary of Bowen High School," 1st edition, in 2011, with a 2nd edition in process.

Don Brokop 26630 S. Truro Drive Sun Lake, AZ 85248 (480) 883-2801 [email protected] After graduation, I attended the College of Idaho for one year on a Baseball, Football scholarship..(did a

crash course). In 1960 I married my high school sweetheart……the fabulous, adorable and kindest …not to mention richest girl in the world (So she told me!!!!!!)….Bebe Browning. We raised 8 children.. 5 sons and 3 daughters….. I worked on a railroad for 37 years…started as a trainman…. And retired at age 55 as the president. We moved to AZ. Warmth and relaxation. I golf, draw and also enjoy model railroading. What I remember most about Bowen is the many teammates and friends I made and still keep in contact with. What I try to forget is Dr. Romberg

Bebe Browning Brokop 26630 S. Truro Drive Sun Lake, AZ 85248 (480) 883-2801 [email protected] After graduation I worked at the US Steel Emp. Credit Union for 5 years. My Bowen High School “Steady” and I

were married in 1960. Our first child, Eileen was born in 1962, followed by Ken in 1964, Sam in 1966, Jill in 1967, Beth in1969, Don, Jr. in 1971, Dan in 1973, and finally James in 1977. (eight in all) .I was blessed to be a “stay at home

mom” while Don worked VERY hard , even two full time jobs for many years. Our lives were happy and full of all that goes with a large family including so many activities and sports the kids were involved in. We moved from Oak Forest, Illinois to Sun Lakes, Az. in 2000. In the meantime we have been blessed with 13 grandchildren and 1 Gr. Grandchild. Life in Sun Lakes is good even though we are not able to have family nearby. Don golf’s as often as possible and, believe it or not, I began tap dancing twelve years ago and continue ‘till this day. (Great exercise for body and brain.) We’ve made many good friends here these past years. Looking back at my years at Bowen…what’s not to miss? For me, every day at school was exciting (either looking forward or dreading something ). There was always a spirit of anticipation in the air. We were all so young and eager to experience what each day, and even what life itself (even after Bowen ) was going bring our way. Now, here we are once again, gathering with those who were so much a part of our lives 55 years ago. Much older and hopefully much wiser with more years to look back on than probably await us. I have so much to be thankful for.

Audrey Capalby Madole P. O. Box 6886 Kingman, AZ 86402 (420)287-0504 [email protected] What I liked about Bowen High was my friends and the fun we had. I have lived in Kingman, AZ for the last 45 years. During that time I worked for

Kingman Regional Medical Center for 32 years as the Billing Manager. I finally retired at the end of last March. It was time. Hopefully I will have an opportunity see what the world has to offer. Right now I am in New York, Manhattan to be exact. I am visiting my granddaughter, her husband and my great grandson Quinn who is now 19 month olds. He is too much fun!! My granddaughter and her husband are Attorneys so the nanny has a few weeks off while I take over. Also, while I am here in New York I am taking French classes at the French Institute. So far I am really enjoying it. My granddaughter, Britni, her husband, Ryan, Quinn and I are planning a trip to France. Well that is my life in a nutshell.

Our travels have taken us to New Zealand, Hong Kong, Japan, Hawaii and multiple trips to Europe ,( including 3 of mine as a high school orchestra chaperone. We've also taken many trips in the U.S. I enjoy almost daily walks and playing golf, tennis, bridge, and biking as often as possible. We frequently go to Chicago to visit museums and came across Karl Wirsum at the Art Institute a few times. We enjoy the concerts at the Cultural Center, and the open rehearsals at the Pritzker Pavilion. We like to explore different areas and buildings and find new restaurants. Our oldest two granddaughters, 11 and 13, like to join us as often as they can. Our summers always include Saugatuck, MI and trips to Ravinia.

John Corwin 14225 Mark Drive Largo, FL 33774 (727) 593-3120 [email protected] I taught school in Oak Park for 6 years after receiving my master’s degree from Indiana University. I then went to Elmwood Park where I was a counselor,

assistant principal, and principal, for a total of 27 years. We then moved to Largo Florida where I taught science for 5 years and then retired to fishing and golf with Susan. I did have a great time meeting George Beloz in California a few years ago and we both went to my daughter’s play in Long Beach. Hopefully, this short summary will help in your reunion summary. We send our best wishes to all.

Betty Diernfeld Gibson 675 N. Elizabeth St. Lima, OH (419) 227-1988 [email protected] After graduation I went to work for Illinois Bell in the Directory Assistance office. I worked there for 2 years when I met and married my first husband,

Carl Hendricks in 1959. In 1960 we had our first child and had 3 more children, 2 boys and 2 girls, before we divorced in 1978. In 1983 I met and married my second husband, Carl Gibson, who already had 2 children, 1 boy and 1 girl. I have been married for the last 28 years to Carl. Between us we have 6 children, 13 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. My oldest grandson currently serves in the 101st Airborne Division and is stationed at Ft. Campbell, Ky. He has served his country in Afghanistan and S. Korea.

I've worked a variety of jobs and currently work part-time as a cashier at Sears. My husband is retired and works from home selling and repairing used lawn mowers and small engines. We took our first Caribbean cruise for our 25th anniversary, and enjoyed it so much we plan to go again next year! We are avid garage sale sellers’!! Looking forward to seeing everyone!!!

Judith DuBrownik Baker 725 Tanglewood Frankfort, IL 60423 (815) 806-1372 [email protected] I always told people I picked Neil up on a bus or in a

library. You decide. Joan told me someone was watching me. So there was. For three months we watched each other on the bus and El traveling to the "Loop." And all the regulars watched us. Finally IT happened. None too soon, either because I would shortly start training and I thought, in my then girlish despair, I'd never see him again. But, on a day I worked late and the El train was fairly empty, I slid into a seat and buried my nose in the book I was trying to finish. It had to be returned that evening to the South Chicago Public Library or I would incur another fine. (I was notorious for my fines.) And, he slid in next to me. He peered over my shoulder long enough to prompt me to say I'd be glad to share except I had to return the book to the library that very evening. And, so I did. And, there he was. Neil Maynard Baker and I were married on November 25, 1961. And, so we were---until April 2006, when I lost the love of my life to the Big C. In my early work life at South Chicago Community Hospital I was an X-Ray Tech and ultimately rose to manage the department. In my later work life, I did go back to hospital work then changed careers and became a Real Estate Broker. I was also fortunate enough to be a stay at home mother. And, fortunate enough to make a difference in my community. I was active in the local PTA, eventually becoming President. I was elected to serve as a school board member for six years while simultaneously serving as an elected library trustee on our local library district board for 26 years. I served as Secretary and President on that board and chaired a successful referendum raising funds to purchase additional land and erect the library building . I also served with the trustee division of the American Library Association. I love libraries. They changed my life. Neil and I raised two wonderful sons together: Eric, is married to Katya, parents of 10 year old Alena Dorothy and the soon to be born Aidan Neil. Eric practices and teaches Oriental Medicine, Katya is a microbiologist at Northwestern Medical School . Owen, is married to Julie, parents of six year old Evan Neil, and one year old Alex Edward. Owen is a chemist at Abbott Labs. Julie is a CPA with a small accounting firm. My days of mourning are over, and I am now reaching out and planning to volunteer again. But you know Guys, I'd really like a paying job. Something I haven't had in years. Never too late and you’re never too old.

Hal Dvorin 663 Cunningham Dr. Palatine, IL 60074 (847) 991-9272 [email protected] My post Bowen life began January 13, 1957, the date of our graduation. After the ceremony I piled into Al Olympia’s Kaiser sedan along with Jack Ivancevich, Jim Spassoff, and Pete Lakich for a celebration in Cal City. A weekday night in January was very quiet,

so after a few beers I was dropped off at home. A week or so later I enrolled at the University of Illinois Chicago Undergraduate Division at Navy Pier. My original major was to be physical sciences, a response to Sputnik and Mr. Estin’s encouragement. However, I soon discovered that Mr. Clark’s advanced math classes had not well prepared me for college level math and I switched to the College of Commerce with a Management major. This allowed me to stay at Navy Pier for five semesters in order to “catch up.” I transferred to Urbana in September of 1959 and received my BS in January 1961. Life on campus was wonderful. So many activities. Fortunately I did not have to spend much time studying. The day I moved back to Chicago was one of the saddest days of my life. Military service stood in the way of starting a career so I eventually enlisted in the Army. A recruiter for the Army Security Agency convinced me to enlist for ASA. On March 31, 1961 I was on my way to Fort Leonard Wood for basic training, which wasn’t too bad once you learned the ins and outs of the system such as going to the movies to avoid extra duty and get some needed sleep. I think I saw “Where the Boys Are” about 10 times. After basic I was assigned to ASA HQ in Arlington, VA to be trained as a Payroll Specialist. After eight weeks and some leave, I was on my way to TUSLOG Det 83 at Manzarilli Station Turkey, which was about 25 miles from Ankara. Life there was very easy once you got used to the smell; no KP, no weapons, no parades. Worked in an office 8-4 M-F and spent a lot of evenings in the NCO Club. I took seven Accounting classes and read a lot of books. I Spent five days in Athens, a weekend in Istanbul, and stopped in Rome on the way back to the US. I left the Army in January 1964 and enrolled graduate school at Illinois to pursue a Master of Accounting Sciences degree. The following June I decided to take a job in public accounting which lasted almost a year and then went to work for Inland Steel in their downtown Chicago headquarters. Lived near Broadway & Belmont and enjoyed the single life. In January of 1967 I went back to Urbana my Masters and graduated in August, returning to my job at Inland. When I learned that I would be assigned to Indiana Harbor Works, I decided to move on. Over the next 20 years I held a number of positions with mostly small companies as a Cost Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, and Controller/CFO. I got interested in computers and became something of a systems expert. In the 1990’s I tried selling real estate and became a Sales Representative for a music distributor. In 1998, I started what became my last job with an advertising agency in Arlington Heights. I was both the Accounting Manager and Systems Manager, and I worked 4 days a week with Fridays off. I retired in October 2010.

Sarah Jane and I were married in July 1982 and lived in Roselle for 4 years before buying our home in Palatine. She was an Early Childhood Special Education Teacher for Schaumburg school district and retired in 2000. Sarah Jane grew up in a small town in Iowa and graduated from Iowa State. We decided we were “too old” to have children so we have become “grandparents” to the three girls who live next door, enjoying Brookfield, Lincoln Park and Milwaukee zoos; Kohl Children’s Museum, the circus; lunches at the Choo Choo in DesPlaines, and many other activities. We love to travel and have been to Glacier, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Germany, Austria and Hungary in recent years. I keep pretty busy as President of the Bowen Alumni Association, and maintaining the BHSAA website as well as our class website. Since I was “camera shy” I substituted the picture on the left which was taken in Athens at the Olympic Stadium in 1962. The newer photo was taken in 2010 in Grand Teton National Park.

Caroline Elliott Poling 13710 W. Aleppo Dr. Sun City West, AZ 85375 (623) 975-9957 [email protected] Hi Al! I’m really sorry to miss the reunion. Our daughter Kathy got tickets for recitals

and games that weekend in Buellton, CA. Can’t miss them! Driving 8 ½ hours isn’t a treat, but it’s worth it for the “show.” I’m still working full time at the Adobe Fitness Center in Sun City Grand. I’m the Operations Manager. If you are ever in that area, stop in and I’ll give you the “Grand” tour. I’ve been there 11 years. Dave teaches in the adult learning programs in Sun City Grand and in Sun City West. He’s also President of the Northwestern Alumni of the West Valley. He’s a busy guy too! Dave and I have been married 50 years last September and were treated to a two week vacation in Neustadt, Germany where our son David and his family are living while he is working with BASF. We had a wonderful trip and thoroughly enjoyed a side trip to Austria. Yes, the Hills are Alive, with the Sound of Music .Fun time. So you can see we stay busy. Our son Bill and his family live in Aptos, CA and our daughter Kris lives in Mill Valley, CA. Lots of trips to California! Have a great time. Sorry we have to miss the reunion. Hi to everyone!

After graduating from Bowen High School, I attended and graduated from University of Illinois, Champaign. Married Jordon in 1962 and this September we will celebrate our 50th anniversary. We have one daughter Elizabeth who is married to Paul and has 21 month old Joseph. As grandparents, we are thrilled and having great fun with Joseph. I had three main professions these past 50 years: medical technologist, business owner of optical distribution company, and licensed real estate broker. I have sold and we currently own and manage our own properties. We have lived in our home in Westmont, IL for the past 28 years. I have been very active in the Westmont Chamber as President 1992-93 and Economic Development by forming a Main Street organization in 1996. I was honored by Village by being named “Citizen of the Year 1997.” Currently involved in our hobby – Jordon is an avid collector of 1928 to 1932 Ford cars and trucks. This hobby keeps us very busy with our car clubs and traveling throughout the U.S. I’ve had a very full, busy life and know I still have much more I want to do for my family and community.

Allan Feingold 1400 Shire Circle Inverness, IL 60067 [email protected] After Bowen I attended the U of I for 6 years, and

got my undergraduate and law degrees. I’ve been

practicing law for just under 50 years, mostly as a

solo practitioner, but for a number of years I had lawyers working for

me. I’m still working, but on a reduced basis, out of my house, so I

guess I’m semi-retired. My office was in downtown Chicago for 41

years, until 2004, at which time the daily commute finally got to me,

and I moved to Schaumburg, very close to home. I’ve been working out of my house since 2006, and

I have no plans, at present, to fully retire. I’m trying to stay away from the stress of litigation now,

and prefer to work on contracts, wills, trusts, corporate, real estate, and business matters.

I’ve been married for just under 50 years, but not consecutively. My first marriage lasted

10 years, out of which came two daughters, and now four grandchildren, two from each daughter.

Unfortunately two of my grandbabies live in California, but the other two are close by, and we see

them a lot, and get great joy from them. (Don’t we all?) The grandbabies are now 13, 9, 8, and 7.

I’ve been re-married for 38 years and we live a very busy life. My wife Jutta (“You-tuh”) and I don’t

have kids of our own, but my kids are “our kids”. They’ve known Jutta for most of their lives, and

are very close to their step-mom. We have a beachfront home on the west coast of Florida, (Bonita

Beach) so we spend a large part of the winters there, though I’m back & forth a lot between work

here, and sunsets and R&R down there, where I’m finally taking up fishing seriously.

My wife comes from East Germany, and her whole family is in Dresden, Berlin, & Cologne, so

through the 40 years we’ve been together, I’ve learned to speak German, and we’re very close to her

entire family. We’ve traveled almost every year to Europe, and have driven extensively throughout

eastern and western Europe. For a time in the 80’s, we used to go on hiking trips in the Swiss Alps,

Page 10: 2012 Reunion Book - Complete.pdf

17

in the vicinity of the Matterhorn. In recent years we’ve also traveled to the Mediterranean, Alaska,

China, the Canadian Rockies, Antarctica, Chile, and Argentina. We’re planning a trip to the

Galapagos Islands (Ecuador) and Machu Piccu (Peru) for next year.

Along the way, I’ve become an avid photographer, and I have a huge collection of photos taken

during our travels, and lots of wildlife from Florida. When I was in my late 40’s, I decided to realize

a life-long dream, so I took flying lessons, and got my pilot’s license at the age of 49. I flew for a

couple of years, and eventually gave it up for a variety of reasons, but my brief flying career remains

among my fondest memories. My flight instructor was a kid of 25, who now is a captain with

Southwest Airlines, and is one of my closest friends to this day. He’s now about the age I was when

he was mercilessly putting me through my paces, up among the clouds.

I’ve been playing piano all my life. I never had the patience to learn to read music, since I play by

ear, have perfect pitch, and perfect memory (for music, nothing else). I’ve been composing music

since grammar school, but when I discovered digital recording pianos in the early 90’s, I began

recording my music, and in 1999 I hired a producer, and self-published a CD of my own music, an

album entitled “Sharing Our Dreams.” You can hear samples of my music on my website,

www.allanmusic.com.

My wife had her own travel business for a number of years, but sold it in the late 80’s, and in

addition to all her other jobs at home, has been my business partner ever since, helping in my law

practice, managing our properties, and handling all aspects of our finances and the business side of

our life, which keeps her very busy. The picture of us walking among the penguins, during our

Antarctica cruise in 2008, was one of the most surreal experiences we’ve ever had.

Wayne Gatzke 12443 Rullman Dr. Dillsboro, IN 47018 (812) 432-5586 [email protected] Judy and I have become involved in many activities and hobbies in our retirement years. We volunteer at

our local food pantry, enjoy our grandkids soccer games, love to travel to model train club conventions. I also sub teach at the local community college. I chaired our community's Men's Lenten Dinners for the very first time this year and hope I can continue the job in the future. I'm also looking forward to hear our fellow classmates’ experiences.

Sally Grimes Peters 2068 Mallard Point Rd. Mountain Home, AR 72653 (870) 492-4153 We have a new granddaughter Mylee (Age 5) added to our four: Cole (19), Blake (16), Marlo (14), and McKenzie (7). All is well with us. Sorry to miss seeing all of you.

Regina Green Winiecki 928 Jay St. Griffith, IN 46319 (219) 838-0639 [email protected] I attended Luella School in Jeffrey Manor beginning in 3rd grade. Our family left Chicago and moved to

Wilmington, DE for two years. Upon graduating from Luella, it was off to Bowen for four years, graduating in June 1957. After graduating, I went to nursing school for a year. Then married, divorced, and married again. I have been a widow since May 1980. Children in “pecking order:” Edward (deceased in 2007), Daniel (age 51), and Adrienne (age 38). All three are married. Grandchildren: Lewis (28) served 4 years in the Navy aboard the USS Carl Vinson, an aircraft carrier, in deployment; Mark (27) serving his second Navy enlistment was stationed in Hawaii and now is at the Naval Air Station Lemoore CA. He had one tour of duty in Iraq,; Lauren (22) is in her 4th year at Purdue – Calumet and completing her first year of Nursing; Sara (20) is finishing her second year at IU in Bloomington, IN, and Wyatt (7) is in first grade. Great grandchildren: Kiaya (6), James (4), Ellajade (3), Jeffrey (2), and 2 more due this year. I was blessed to have left each job for a better one, taking with me new skills and life lessons. In 1968, I found “a home” at CNA Insurance where I held several positions. My last was as a Senior Claim Representative in the Accident and Health Department. I retired on disability after 24 years. My community service consisted of being a Girl Scout Leader for 6 years. I have held some other titles, but the ones I am proudest of are Mom, Grandma, Nana, and Great Grandma. The thing I liked most about Bowen was the students, especially our class. We came from different neighborhoods, ethnic backgrounds, and faiths but had a common goal: to learn as much as we could and graduate. Our senior year, we truly bonded. How many of you remember doing the “Bunny Hop” in the lunchroom. We created quite a stir! Things I would rather forget about Bowen: First and foremost would be Dr. Romberg. Secondly, climbing all those stairs to Study Hall. No wonder I chose to be a hall guard, swim helper, office helper, etc. Thanks to all of those classmates who returned my calls and spoke with me when we were trying to contact everyone. I enjoyed speaking with each and every one of you. Let’s give a salute to the committee members for pulling this all together. I am looking forward to seeing you on May 18. I thank God for each new day as a gift. That’s why it’s called the “present.”

Steve Horan 28 Elizabeth Dr. Bella Vista, AR 72715 (479) 855-1204 [email protected] Married Janet Millard of Mason City, Iowa on August 22, 1970. My best memory of Bowen is

singing with the Mixed Choir and listening to my classmates rehearse the Hallelujah Chorus of Handel’s Messiah. After graduation from Bowen, I went to college at the University of Chicago and earned an honors bachelor’s degree in 1957 in Political Science and Economics. This early academic success caused me conflicts in setting personal goals and selecting a permanent career path. It took me nine years to realize that my core identity was to become a fine artist. When I met and married my wife Janet, she agreed we would be happiest if I did this. I have been creating limited edition prints and original acrylic paintings ever since. Details of my artistic career including many pictures of my current work can be accessed by going to my professional website www.artbystevehoran.com . We moved from a condo in Greektown down to Northwest Arkansas nine years ago, when it became possible for Janet to work out of our home as a healthcare legislative attorney until she retired. We love the natural beauty of the Ozark mountains and lakes, and being ten minutes away from the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art.

Virginia Horn Ogburn 2136 Churchview Dr. Rockford, IL 61107 (815) 639-9551 I enjoyed Bowen High School very much. For 4 years I and three other girls would walk to school each morning. My friends and I attended many events at the school. I worked in the Girl’s gym office and had to record the swim

lengths that girls did for GAA on charts. Many of my activities were in the sports area. Later in life, I attended college and became a teacher. I taught at Fenger High School for 2 years but eventually made my home in Rockford. I taught in Rockford public schools for 28 years in Physical Education. My husband Charles is deceased. We had two children, a son and a daughter. I have five grandchildren.

Edward Kaufman 825 Edgewood Rd. Highland Park, IL 60035 (847) 997-7444 [email protected] I have been married to Adele since 1962. We have three children: my daughter Elizabeth, my son Daniel, and his

wife Amy. On March 15, 2010 my grandson, Harrison was born and I was promoted from father to grandfather. I am a psychotherapist in private practice, specializing in the treatment of children, adolescents and their families. Additionally, I am the Director of the Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy Training program of the Chicago Institute for Psychoanalysis where I also serve as a member of the Board of Directors. I have co-edited, Emotions and Learning Reconsidered: International Perspectives, New York: Gardner Press, 1992. My hobbies include scuba diving, photography and writing poetry. Over the past ten years, a number of my photos and poems have been published in a local arts and literary journal.

Susan Kirk McMullin 7231 Wiltshire Court Highlands Ranch, CO 80130 (303) 470-0171 [email protected] It doesn’t seem possible that 55 years have passed since our graduation. In that time, I have been

blessed with two sons, two daughters, two step-sons, ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Since leaving Chicago, I have lived in Colorado, Germany, Texas, Australia, and back to Colorado. For 15 years, I worked as a Federal employee. My husband and I travel as much as possible, remembering a quote from Mark Twain, “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness…” At home I enjoy the family, various hobbies, and volunteering at church and the local elementary school. Since I won’t be attending the 55th Reunion, I invite you to come by for a cup of coffee and a chat whenever you are in the beautiful Denver area. Enjoy!

Roz Kroopkin Lagges 2400 Deer Creek CC Blvd. Deerfield Beach, FL (954) 481-2096 [email protected] I am now the proud Great Grandparent of 8. I still am golfing and working out at the gym. I have been a member of TOPS (Take off

pounds sensibly) and had reached my goal 10 years ago so am now a KOP (keep off pounds). My Mom will celebrate her 96th birthday in May.

Joan Langerman Antonson 23280 Strathern St. West Hills, CA 91304 (818) 883-2378 [email protected] I went to Indiana University in Bloomington, IN for two years and transferred to the University of Illinois. I graduated in 1961 with

a B.S. in Home Economics with a major in Interior Design. I met my husband John at Illinois and we were married in February 1963. We lived in the Los Angeles, CA area where John was an engineer in the aerospace industry and I was a stay at home mom. We were married for 45 years until John passed away in February 2008. I live in West Hills, CA which is in the northwest part of the San Fernando Valley. I have a son David, daughter-in-law Ann, and three grandsons…Bradley, Connor, and Kyle. They live in the Bay Area. We are a very close family. I fly up there every month to visit them, and we all got to Kaui and Maui each summer. Family is important to me. I enjoy cruising and playing bridge. I follow LA Lakers basketball, UCLA football and basketball, and I keep track of how the University of Illinois is doing in football and basketball. I have relatives in the Chicago suburbs, including my brother Jim. I enjoy visiting and try to go the Chicago during the “good” times of the year. A good high school memory is being in a sorority and going to the “sings” and performing.

Ken Levinson 4410 Quest Drive Fort Collins, CO 80524 (970) 472-0544 [email protected] I retired from Amtrak in April 2007. Still playing music with 8 or 9 local bands (concert, Dixieland, German polka, small

combo). Just keeping active and healthy.

boys and a newborn granddaughter. The Air Force and Bob’s career ( Municipal Finance Director) have had us living in Chicago on 2 occasions; Reno, NV; Ann Arbor, MI; Naperville, IL (twice); Palatine, IL; and now we are retired in Plainfield, IL.

Donna Nichols Gamino 2015 S. Finley Rd. #1009 Lombard, IL 60148 (630) 889-1410 [email protected] Looking forward to seeing everyone again in Lombard! Stories are way too many! But, please add as my message to all: We were there together in the

best of times and have traveled many different roads to arrive at where we are now. We miss those who have gone before us and celebrate those who are still with us! The 50's Rock!

Joanne Novek Fisher 18445 Dundee Rd. Homewood, IL 60430 (708) 798-8032 [email protected] Widowed. I would welcome hearing from classmates.

Bill Oliver 2072 Seven Lakes South Seven Lakes, NC 27376 (910) 400-5302 [email protected] My wife, Edna is a pilot with American Airlines and flies the 757's and 767's internationally out of JFK to various cities in Europe. We now reside in Seven

Many sports have been a part of my life and now I just play a lot of golf at our Seven Lakes golf course. We have traveled to Hawaii, Ireland and many locations in the United States and expect to travel more after Edna retires in October.

Dorothy Parker Bross 3126 8th Street Rockford, IL 61109 (815) 229-8374 [email protected] I finally retired in August of 2009, after working over 30 years. At last I was ready to throw away the alarm clock. I am a cancer survivor – it has been

almost six years now and I am thankful for good health. My oldest son passed away seven years ago from melanoma. I have three grown children and seven grandchildren all in the Rockford area, so if I need anything they are only a phone call away. Living an active life, I bowl a couple of times a week, enjoy the outdoors doing yard work, feeding and watching the birds, and walking the paths at Klehm Arboretum, which is not far from where I live. I’m looking forward to the Bowen Reunion and renewing old friendships.

Bill Pave 1380 Chapman Ford Rd. Blairsville, GA 30512 (706) 745-2093 [email protected] I graduated from Northwestern University while working at American Maize

products. Spent 6 months on active duty and 5 -1/2 years in the Army reserves. I worked almost 29 years for Ford Motor Co. at 4 different locations - most time in Atlanta. Retired in 1996 and eventually live full time on Lake Nottely near the GA/NC state line. Have two sons and two grandsons (10 &7). I swim for physical fitness and coach adult Masters Swimming. Also do some volunteer work at our local food bank. Enjoy fishing and boating. I could not attend the reunion because I am recovering from hip replacement surgery. Hope to be able to join my son and oldest grandson for our annual fishing trip to a family resort in Minnesota in June.

Rita Prezkwas Erhardt 8517 Baring Ave. Munster, IN 46321 (219) 972-9004 I married shortly after graduation. I had two sons and was married for 22 years when I became a widow at age 39. My sons were 17 and 19. I’ve worked primarily

in offices. I retired with 18 years of service with the Park Employees Pension Plan of Chicago. I loved my job and working in downtown Chicago. After

being a widow for 12 years, I remarried. Joseph and I have been married for 20 years. We have seven grandchildren between us. In 1996 on my way to work, I was hit by a car while walking across Michigan Ave. I sustained serious injuries to both legs. Two surgeries, seven months of physical therapy, and learning to walk again, I was slowly able to return to my job. I thank God I am able to walk again. My attending Bowen was a family tradition. My mother, brother and sister attended before me. Bowen was in the neighborhood where I grew up, so felt at home attending there. Who can ever forget: hall guards, and study hall, fire drills, swim and gym classes. All good memories. Where did those years go? So quickly!

Joan Prigge Bird 21252 Barth Pond Lane Crest Hill, IL 60403 (815) 439-2149 [email protected] Widow.

Simona Rodriguez Camarillo 42975 W. Morning Dove Lane Maricopa, AZ 85138 (520) 423-9940 [email protected] My name is Simona (Mona) Camarillo (Rodriguez) married to a great guy Albeno Camarillo for 52 years in September. We have four wonderful children

and seven grandchildren. I had the opportunity to return to school and became a registered nurse. We left Chicago in 1997 for retirement in Las Vegas, NV. We enjoyed Las Vegas for eleven years. We now live in a beautiful retirement community in Maricopa, AZ which keeps us busy and healthy, and the weather is great. We are still close with my friends from Bowen: Mary Lou (Velasquez) Ruiz and Donna (Nichols) Gamino. It's a great time for all of us.

I moved from Stamford, CT to Madison, Wisconsin to be near my 3 grandchildren. Since prices are lower in the Midwest vs. the gold coast of Connecticut bordering New York, I was able to buy a house as nice as or actually even better than I had in CT. Even though I am retired, I continue doing medical consulting. I'm on retainer to National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, MD and to University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. I continue to be on the Board of Directors of several R&D companies. For exercise, I'm renovating my new unfinished basement.

Caroline Saric McClelland 3131 S. Princeton Ave. Chicago, IL 60616 (312) 842-2020 [email protected] Married to George McClelland. Three sons, Greg & Geoff Magsaysay, Collin McClelland:

Greg is the lead electrical engineer at KBR, INC at their Chicago office, is married to Jacqueline, and has one son Trevor, age 6. Geoff is the executive chef at Our Lady of Resurrection Medical Center in Chicago. He is still living the fun life of a bachelor and enjoying golf. Collin is just finishing a fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia in neuro-ophthalmology. He is married to Kathryn and will be starting his medical and teaching practices at Washington University in St. Louis this September. No kids yet. Interests/hobbies/whatevers: George and I are semi-retired. We are avid do-it-yourselfers and gardeners. Our gardens, at different locations, have twice won second prizes in the Chicago Garden Contest. Currently, George is finishing rehabbing a last real estate venture which is our current and final address. After this project is finished, George plans to move on to rehabbing antique cars I still put in a couple of days a week at the office as a financial planner and compliance officer for a small brokerage/insurance firm. On the right brain side, after having earned a certificate in Botanical Illustration at the Morton Arboretum, I plan doing more drawing combining that with my new interest in art quilting. Life goes on and we are looking forward to enjoying it.

Diane Schneider Gerdes 18244 Murphy Circle Tinley Park, IL 60478 (708) 429-2013 [email protected] Retired. Married to Kenneth for 42 years. We have ten children between us, 25 grandchildren, and 6 great grand kids. We spend a

lot of our retirement in Fountain Hills, AZ.

Anna Sellaroli Butler 8 Almond Ct. Novato, CA 94947 (415) 209-6758 How in the world did I get here from there? I left Chicago in 1961 and moved to San Francisco, and have lived in the Bay Area ever since. Married, had

three children, divorced, and after 11 years as a single parent, I remarried and have been so for 32 years. I attended Moser Secretarial College in Chicago, and subsequently worked in what would today be called administrative assistant positions. Somehow, I morphed into telecommunications and became a telecom manager. It couldn’t have been the job to end all jobs, because before long boredom set in and at the bifocal stage of my life I found myself going back to school to study interior design. Now this was a career I could love. Spent 20+ years in the business, eventually opening my own firm: Ann Butler Interior Design. I have to admit to have done very well, and in 2001 my firm was selected to design a room for the 2001 Marin Designers’ Showcase. I’m still morphing. Just when I began to question whether the time was right to retire, my oldest son purchased a coffee business. WOW! I began to fantasize about finally being able to bake all those recipes that I had been collecting over the years, and I thought it would be great fun to do some baking for him. And, what could he say, after all I’m his MOM! So, once again, I took courses, got my certification, and I now find myself spending a great deal of time baking in a commercial kitchen, and loving all three thousand square feet of it. I manufacture under the name “Anna Banana”, and sell to high-end stores (not the ones who sell Wonder Bread), and coffee shops, etc. One of the activities that most touched my life has been my involvement with the Marin Family Services. Their Parent Aid program trains and then assigns volunteers to work with an at-risk parent in order to help prevent child abuse. It was a one-year commitment that effected me in ways to which I would otherwise never have been exposed – good and bad. Consequently, I was honored for my participation in this program at their yearly “Breakfast of Champions” occasion. I’m sitting trying to think of what I miss about Bowen – not a lot. But, with the one huge exception: friends. It’s already been so great to hear from some of you as a result of the upcoming reunion. Hoping to hear from lots more. My regards to all at the reunion. If you’re ever out this way, give me a call.

My life has been very exciting. We lived in Philadelphia for a few years - Navy life, our daughter was born there. Then we bought our first home on Chicago's East Side, 2nd home in So. Holland, and lastly our home in New Lenox near our daughter and grand kids. I have had many jobs over the years. We ran 2 Service Stations and a Transmission Shop. After retiring from there I went to Travel Agent School and have been doing this line of work since 1995 and also worked in South Holland Library. We have 1 daughter Karyn Ahern – a manager at Macy's Orland Park and 2 grandchildren - Brendan 15 and Caroline 11. Our daughter married Tom Ahern from Flossmoor and into a large family of 8 and I was happy for her since we could not have any more children. We have traveled to many places including Italy Poland, Alaska, Austria, Germany, Quebec and Montreal, and many states in USA. We were skiers and skied in France, Austria, Canada, Colorado, Nevada, California & Michigan. Our next trip we want to visit Croatia and Greece and also some places in US that we have not been to. We are very active. We work out and swim 3 times a week. Also golfers, and I played avid tennis for 30 years until my knees gave out. I am looking forward to seeing some of my old classmates. The ones I still see are Pat Lundstrom (Neumann), and occasionally Nancy Andjelic (Gagliano).

Charles Thompson 942 E. Nardini St. Queens Creek, AZ 85140 (480) 987-5654 After high school I went to De Vry Tech for a two year degree in electronics. After that, I served in the Air Force and then the Navy. In both I was a Radar Specialist.

From then on until I retired at age of 66 yrs. old, I worked in the electronics field. We now live in AZ. near our daughter and her husband.

Southern RR in KC, MO. We lived there for six years before moving to Arizona, where we live in a gated retirement resort community called Pebblecreek. Retirement couldn't be better. Out here we are affectionately known as snow-birds!!!! We built in Door County, WI before AZ. Our address there is: 2434 Pine Bluff Ct. PO 576, Baileys Harbor, WI 54202. 920-839-9924 I have only good thoughts about my time at Bowen High School. We should all feel very fortunate to have had such good opportunities there. My grandchildren have not had the quality of education that we were privileged to have experienced. We had good teachers and good counselors.

[email protected] My wonderful husband of 48 years and I have two beautiful daughters and one beautiful granddaughter. John and I love to travel the United States and out of

the country, mostly to Central Mexico. John is a retired Mechanical Foreman, and I am currently employed at CenterPoint 504, NFP where I have been a Portfolio Manager for 16 years. Prior to that, I have 25 years of banking experience in various banks throughout the Chicagoland area.

Joan Vlaisavljevich Durman 6718 Weaver Ave. McLean, VA 22101 (703) 356-4929 [email protected] So much has happened since 1957. Gene and I married in Chicago and then moved our family to McLean, VA in 1977. We have enjoyed living in the

Washington, DC suburb with easy access to the museums and monuments, symphony, opera, and hockey. My husband and I both worked here, he with USEPA and I with Fairfax County government, and then as a national consultant for mental health and substance abuse issues. I just retired for the second time and am looking forward to Gene’s retirement at the end of this year. Our children live on the East Coast. Stephanie, an environmental attorney, lives in Knoxville with her husband, a professor at the University of Tennessee, and their two boys, ages 4 and 7. Rebecca is a corporate attorney for a national law firm based in Miami. She and her husband, also a corporate attorney, have three grown children. Our youngest, David, is married, lives nearby in Arlington, VA., and works in information technology for USAID. We thought that with the recent birth of their first child his world travels would be limited but somehow he still manages to work in many emerging nations.

We love to travel and have been to all seven continents – yes, we walked with penguins in Antarctica, tracked polar bears in the Arctic, visited Europe and especially the Mediterranean several times, climbed the great wall in China, swam in the Barrier Reef of Australia, rode camels in the Egyptian desert, witnessed the breathtaking views from Machu Picchu in the Peruvian Andes, and have been to all 50 states. This summer we’ll introduce the Knoxville family to Alaska and cruising before Gene and I travel to the Baltic later this summer, with special trips to Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia. We are long-time Washington Capitals fans, attending most home games in the regular season and in the playoffs. Both of us are avid readers, enjoy bird watching, and volunteer for a variety of community services. It’s been a long road from Bowen High School to Roosevelt University (BA), the University of Chicago (MA and PhD), an interesting professional career, extensive travel and most of all a wonderful family. We’ve been very fortunate!
