Discovered in the early twentieth century, The Ceasing of Notionsis one of the ancient writings from the Dunhuang caves. It takes
a unique form: a fictitious dialogue between a master and his disciple,in which the disciple tenaciously pursues the master’s pithy utteranceswith follow-up questions that propel the dialogue toward ever moreprofound insights.
