Report

www.rutlandfarmandfood.org

We are pleased to present to you an overview of the Rutland Area Farm and Food Link’s 2012 activities and financial information. Our work

to expand economic opportunities for local farms and to increase the availability and affordability of local food is complex and dynamic.

It certainly keeps us on our toes!

With the support of many, many people:

WE ARE CHANGING THE FOOD SYSTEM.We are influencing the way local food is valued,

how people find it, and who benefits.

Our mission mandates us to look at the food system as a whole – both from the farmers’ perspective and the customers’ perspective. Holding

this dual purpose in mind, our programs work on both sides of this supply and demand equation.

We are proactive in our work as we:

Create connectionsBuild capacityEnsure equity

But it doesn’t end there. RAFFL has a leadership role throughout Vermont. We ensure Rutland County is part of the bigger picture by

connecting us to the Vermont Farm to Plate Network. In addition, through creative partnerships, RAFFL actively collaborates with a

number of organizations locally and statewide.

You can count on us to continue operating efficiently and effectively to create a positive future for agriculture in our region.

Who we areTara focuses on strategic thinking, program planning, administrative management, statewide cooperation, local collaboration, and fundraising. Tara has been actively involved in community development for over fifteen years. She is both a founding member of RAFFL and the organization’s first executive director. She is full-time with RAFFL in addition to managing her other community and family commitments.

Garland manages the RAFFL’s New Farmer Initiative. With a small start-up farm of her own and a background in animal science, Garland is passionate about assisting

beginning and aspiring farmers and helping to maintain Rutland County’s working landscape. Garland had

previously worked with RAFFL coordinating Grow-a-Row, RAFFL’s food access and gleaning program from

2010-2012.

Steve manages RAFFL’s communications and marketing, as well as the Everyday Chef program, where he teaches people how to cook with and

eat seasonal and healthy foods. With a background in education and a passion for food, he loves to show people how accessible it is to cook and

eat well. In his free time he bakes, writes, travels, works in his vegetable garden, and cooks, of course.

Elizabeth manages the organization’s public awareness initiatives as well as the volunteer & internship program. She has masters degrees in public health and social work and her true passion lies in working with communities around health, nutrition and sustainability. In her spare time Elizabeth reads a lot about growing food and experiments as much as possible in her garden.

Jill is currently overseeing production of RAFFL’s 2013 Locally Grown Guide. Jill has been involved in local agriculture as a farmer and a writer for more than 10 years. She and her husband are starting Little Lake Orchard in Wells where they raise fruit trees, field crops, pigs, and a small child.

Joann is RAFFL’s go-to systems person. With years of experience working on computers and databases, Joann’s

role at RAFFL is to provide support on administrative details from data management to research on a part-

time basis. She’s into the locally grown and hand made movement, ranging from growing her own vegetables to

making pottery.
