Dear Friends of the Empty Stocking Fund, Since inception, 29 years ago, the Empty Stocking Fund has grown to unimagined magnitude. In total, the Fund has raised more than $13.7 million to benefit a variety of health and human service agencies in the Pikes Peak region. Year after year, the community demonstrates tremendous generosity. During the 2012-2013 campaign, community and matching donations amounted to more than $1,065,000, making this the sixth consecutive year the Empty Stocking Fund has raised over one million dollars! Helping make this possible were more than 2,300 individual donors, and 26 local businesses who hosted events totaling over $54,000. In this challenging economic climate, any contribution to the Fund makes a pivotal difference in the lives of our neighbors in need. In recent years, the benefitting agencies have been faced with meeting growing need with fewer dollars. Through contributions the agencies can better provide meals, bus passes, diapers, clothing, hot showers, medical treatments, housing and much more - all factors instrumental to aiding people in crisis and helping others attain self-sufficiency. In 1984, The Gazette established the Empty Stocking Fund with the ultimate goal of filling empty stockings with Christmas toys, clothing, and other items for families in need during the holiday season. At this time, The Gazette raised over $40,000, in cash and goods, which assisted a total of 27 families in need. The first official campaign, in 1985, assisted 36 families.

Since 1997, The Gazette and El Pomar Foundation have partnered in raising money for the Empty Stocking Fund. El Pomar matches $1 for every $3 raised, up to $200,000. In 2000, the Bruni Foundation joined the partnership, matching $1 for every $10 raised, up to $70,000. All of the administration fees of the Fund are covered, meaning 100% of the funds raised go directly to the Fund to support those in need.

While no longer filling stockings, the 29th annual Gazette-El Pomar Foundation Empty Stocking Fund provided resources for 15 local health and human service agencies in the Pikes Peak region. Each agency uniquely assists individuals and families in times of crisis with the intent to help them attain self-sufficiency. Over the past six years, the fund has raised over $1 million dollars annually!

Every dollar of every contribution goes directly to the above 15 local nonprofit organizations to help meet basic human needs and work

toward self-sufficiency.

Regional Donor Data

The majority of donations came from the Broadmoor Area, North Colorado Springs, Central/Downtown, and Black Forest/Briargate/Air Force Academy. Combined, these four regions accounted for 72%, or

more than $601,000, of the total donations. Compared to the 2011-2012 campaign, North Colorado Springs area donations increased by more

than $38,000. The Broadmoor Area donations also increased more than $80,000.
