Station VerificationWe are in the process of updating out volunteer station files. You will be contacted during this month. We will be forwarding information to you to share with your volunteers.

Emergency InformationWe will be contacting senior centers to develop a telephone call chain in case of emergencies such as a tornado, hurricane, etc. If anyone would be interested in the development of this program please call my office.

I have made contact with the Alabama’s First Response Radio (AFRR) for timely emergency information. They keep communities aware of damaging storms, how to prepare your families, where to go for shelters, what to do about your pets, volunteers opportunities and other emergency news/information. Tune into 97.3 FM on Saturday’s 5 am – 8 am for AFRR updates.

Volunteer OpportunitiesQuilts for Kids – Volunteers transform discontinued, unwanted and other fabrics into patchwork quilts that comfort children with life-threatening illnesses and children abuse. They meet in meeting room of the Harrison/Columbiana Library the second Saturday each month.

Election Day - We are still in need of RSVP volunteers to drive golf carts on November 6, Election Day at the Sports Blast on Highway 280. This shuttle will be in parking lot to transport voters to the polls.

Respite - The Shelby County RSVP in Columbiana is seeking faith-based organizations to volunteer(s) in conducting of respite care in Shelby County. This could include the development of a list of respite volunteers, development list of caregivers seeking respite help, matching the two groups, and attend respite meetings and events. Respite is designed to give caregivers an opportunity for relief.

Shelby County Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) - VOAD coordinates the activities of the many voluntary organizations responding to a disaster. The Shelby County VOAD serves the community through educating, convening training, and volunteering.RSVP is seeking help in planning a program to assist the VOAD organizations in developing a program to assist seniors whether it is cleaning up debris, checking on the elderly, distributing supplies, counseling, organizing donations, or preparing meals.
