The program will start at 9 am. Wayne Alexander Band will entertain as well as others. George Washington, Patrick Henry and Abigail Adams will be our patriotic hosts. Reservations must be made. IMPORTANT: Call (205) 670-5770 by MAY 8 to make reservations. Please indicate each name in your party. We must have an accurate count for ordering purposes . Ages 55+ are welcome. No children please. Job Fair RSVP, the AWARE (Aging Workers Are Reliable Employees) Program and ESGR (Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve are sponsoring a job fair in conjunction with the Department of Defense and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for veterans and their families. The job fair will be held April 24 at the Birmingham Crossplex (old state fairgrounds) from 1 pm to 4 pm. Seniors also are invited to attend this event. Yellow Dot

Job Fair

New FormsRSVP has developed a new enrollment form. These new forms will be mailed to you in the near future. When you receive these new forms we will ask you to discard the old forms.

Blooming Benefits DayThis is a program for older individuals and those with disabilities to learn more about public benefits and to receive assistance in applying for benefits. The Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Middle Alabama Area Agency on Aging (M4A) is conducting this event on April 12 from 9am-12pm at the Columbiana First Baptist Church. Make you reservation by calling 1-866-570-2998. Some applications are based on income, thus bring proof on income. The following services will be available: Legal Assistance (Wills, Power of Attorney, etc.); Veterans Assistance; Medicare Savings; Food Stamps Application; Social Security Extra Help, Medication Assistance; Disability Advocacy; Farmers Market Vouchers; Resources for Durable Medical Equipment; Yellow Dot Program; Blood Pressure Screenings; Blood Sugar Checks; Hearing Aide Screening; and Hearing Aide Application Assistance.

Ms. Senior Shelby CountyEdwina Chappell, Ms. Senior Alabama 2008, has announced the Ms. Shelby County Pageant for April 21. Ladies over the age of 60 years are encouraged to enter. Categories judged include interview, philosophy, talent and evening gown. Please direct inquires to Edwina Chappell at 205-365-6080

2012 IRS Tax NumbersPlan ahead – Medical/moving expense mileage 23 cents/mile; Charitable work (volunteering) 14 cents/mile. These are deductions you can take off your taxes for 2012 – Anderson, Bryant, Lasky & Winslow, P.S.C., Louisville, KY. Remember, these miles must be documented.

Volunteer OpportunitiesMilitary Job Fair – Help with the Military/Senior Job Fair by volunteering with registration or a guide for job seekers and employers. The event is April 24 at the Birmingham Crossplex (Harris Arena), 2331 Bessemer Rd. (5 Points West), Birmingham. Volunteers are needed from 12 noon to 4pm.

Yellow Dot Enrollment – seeking individuals who can help in the enrollment of Shelby County citizens in Yellow Dot program. We want to expand the program and increase the number of events.
