Dear Sir / Madam,

You have received this letter as we believe your home is not connected to a mains sewer and therefore

may have a septic tank or small sewage treatment plant to dispose of sewage. If your home is connected

to the mains sewer, please ignore this letter.

Where a property is not connected to a mains sewage pipe, the waste water is usually discharged to a

septic tank, small sewage treatment plant or cess-pit. These systems store and treat the waste initially.

If you are unsure of which system you have, a simple rule is, if you regularly need to empty your waste

water tank it is likely to be a cess-pit. These do not need to be registered. However, i the system or tankdischarges excess waste water into the ground or into a surace water stream, this will be a septic tank

or treatment plant and you are required to register with us.

There is evidence that poorly maintained septic tanks are contributing to poor water quality in rivers,

lakes and coastal waters around Wales. There is also a danger that pollution from septic tanks could

contaminate private water supplies from wells, boreholes and springs.

Knowing the location of septic tanks will help our ofcers to check for any poorly maintained septic tanks

that could be the cause of pollution. Once identied, we can help the owners rectify any problems.

If you need to register you can do this for free in just a few minutes, either by visiting our websitewww.environment-agency.gov.uk/sewagedischarge or you can simply read the enclosed leaet, ll in

the form and return it to us in the pre-paid envelope. We would encourage you to do this straight away,

but the fnal date you can do this is the end o June 2012.

Thank you if you have already registered with us. You dont need to respond again, and we hope the

enclosed information will be of help to you in maintaining your system.

In a small number of cases the waste water discharge may be in an environmentally sensitive location.

In these cases we will contact you to let you know that you need an environmental permit, which carries

a cost of 125.

garthffosiaeth, ac felly y gall fod gan eich cartref chi danc carthion neu waith trin carthion bychan ar

gyfer cael gwared ar garthion. Os yw eich cartref wedi ei gysylltu ir rhwydwaith garthffosiaeth, gallwch

anwybyddur llythyr hwn.

Lle nad yw eiddo wedii gysylltu r brif bibell garthffosiaeth, yr arfer yw gollwng y dr gwastraff i danc

carthion, gwaith trin carthion bychan, neu garthbwll. Maer rhain yn storior gwastraff, ac yn ei drin i raddau.

Os nad ydych chin sicr pa un or rhain sydd gennych chi, y rheol syml yw: os oes angen i chi wagioch tancdr gwastraff chin aml, maen debyg ei fod yn garthbwll. Nid oes angen cofrestrur fath byllau. Os ywr tanc

neur system yn gollwng dr gwastra ir ddaear neu i os neu nant dr wyneb, bydd yn danc carthion

neun waith trin, ac y maen rhaid i chi ei gorestru ni.

Mae tystiolaeth yn awgrymu bod tanciau carthion, sydd ddim yn cael eu cynnal au cadwn ddigono, yn

cyfrannu at ansawdd dr gwael yn afonydd, llynnoedd a dyfroedd glannau mr Cymru. Mae perygl hefyd

y gallai llygredd tanciau carthion halogi cyenwadau dr preifat o ffynhonnau, treidd-dyllau a tharddellau.

Bydd gwybod ymhle mae tanciau carthion o gymorth in swyddogion ni gael hyd i unrhyw danciau nad ydynt

wediu cynnal au cadwn ddigonol, ac a allent achosi llygredd. Ou canfod, gallwn helpur perchnogion i

gywiro unrhyw broblemau.

Os oes angen i chi gofrestru, gallwch wneud hynnyn rhad ac am ddim mewn ychydig funudau. Gallwch

un ai trwy fynd in gwefan www.environment-agency.gov.uk/sewagedischarge ni, neu ddarllen y daen

amgaeedig ai dychwelyd hi atom yn yr amlen ragdaledig. Rydym yn eich annog i wneud hyn cyn gynted

ag y bor modd, ond y dyddiad ola gwneud hynny yw diwedd Mehefn 2012.

Diolch i chi os ydych eisoes wedi ymgofrestru ni. Does angen i chi wneud dim nawr, ond gobeithiwn y

bydd yr wybodaeth amgaeedig o gymorth i chi gynnal a chadwch system chi.

Efallai y bydd ychydig achosion o ollwng dr gwastraff mewn man lle gallai hynny ddifrodir amgylchedd.

Yn yr achosion hyn, cysylltwn chi er mwyn rhoi gwybod bod arnoch chi angen Trwydded Amgylcheddol,ac y maen costio 125.
