110mm duct with 7 x 14/10 tubesBenefit to Telco’s :-

• Cheaper ducts

•Takes up less room

•Faster cable installation

Benefit to Operator & Constructor :-

• Smaller products, so easier and

faster to install

•Less machinery required

• Tubes take up less room, so more

opportunities for ‘Over Ducting’

• Smaller tubes are more forgiving

when installing around bends etc,

Closure-less Solutions

The tube, tube assemblies and connectors used in closureless solutions need to be designed so that they can withstand being directly buried or connected in without any additional protection.

The above gives the following Benefits:-• Reduced skills required• Faster Installation• Reduced cost per customer passed or connected

Direct Bury and Locking connectors

Wide Slot Cutting

Wide Slot Cutting also shows significant cost benefits compared to traditional digging. Depths of upto 400mm and 150mm are achievable in the carriageway.

Products for Wide Slot Cutting

Emtelle have a large number of products for these applications which includes PVC

Ducting, HDPE Ducting, Cable in Duct, Blown Fibre Tube Bundles for Fibre Bundle and

Mini Cables and our Loose Protected Micro-duct systems.

Micro Trench / Slot Cutting

Micro trenching is used extensively for FTTH

applications worldwide as the costs in installation

are much reduced when compared with traditional

civils works.

The above photo shows a drop to a home before being installed into a

Micro-trench. Notice the wrapping on the tubes holding them together

rather than cable sheath

Thick walled tubes are wrapped in a binder rather than a Cable Sheath,

to make access to the tubes Fast and easy. Direct Burial tube

connectors are also available.

Wrapped Tube Bundles

Emtelle have a large number of tube

size and tube count options for

Micro-trenching. These products are

easy to use, lower skills are

required and they are a closure-less

solution.

• 4 fibre - upto 1500m max in typical route

• 500m in this route (up and down 4 times)

(average installation speed was 49m/min)

• 8 & 12 fibre 800 – 1000m

• 72 fibre cable in 10/8 tube, 1000-1500m

• 72 fibre cable in 12/9.4mm tube 2.2km

• 96 fibre cable in 12/9.4mm tube 1000m

The above distances are point to point blows.

Fibre can be centre blown and onward blown

to get 6km splice-less fibre lengths.

How Far can you blow fibre in One point to point blow ?

Pre Installed Cables and FibresMiniaturisation of fibre optic cables allow pre-installion with fibre cables and bundles into smaller cable ducts.

This makes it practical to have 4km or 6km lengths pre installed with fibre optic cable and pre tested optically.

Particularly useful for rural broadband where access chambers can be spaced 4 or 6km apart and the technique can be combined with rapid deployment, low cost construction techniques e.g., mole plough and slot cutting.

The same technique could be adopted for use in urban locations with 16/12mm for fibre to the cabinet.

Long term maintenance and repair costs are minimised as the cable can be

replaced easily by blowing in a new cable.

16/12mm Sub Ducts with 96 fibre pre-installed

25/20mm Sub Ducts with 144 fibre pre installed

32/26mm Sub Ducts with 288 fibres pre installed

There are a vast number of options for Cable in Duct..

Supplied in 500m coils or 1000m drums, the

PIFU coils can be fitted to the Emtelle standard

coil dispenser ('trolley‘). It is suitable for direct

burial to standard depths, typically 300 to

600mm in suitably prepared ground. Its fibre

performance is the same as for blown or pulled

fibre (to Emtelle fibre unit standard MHT1201).

Designed for outdoor use, the PIFU product – in

terms of both the micro duct and the fibre unit –

is rugged and durable. Ideal for FTTP

applications. Field experience for 500,000

homes in Holland

MDU (Multi Dwelling Unit) Solutions

Emtelle MDU Solutions

Emtelle have carried out a lot of research and have been involved in many MDU solutions

in Scandinavia and it appears that our customers believe that Blown Fibre tubing is the

most cost effective product for this application. For FTTP, a 4/2.7mm LFH product range

can be used to keep pricing to a minimum.

Overhead ProductsOver the past 18 months Emtelle have developed overhead systems for export customers and have assisted OpenReach with their Overhead solutions. Below is an example of the products which are currently available. Overhead solutions may play a critical part in connecting rural communities.

Benefits of Blown Fibre on Poles

• A ‘One Time’ installation for many tube pathways.

• The new system of 14mm tubes can take 96 or even 144 fibre mini cables.

• The smaller 4/2.7mm tubes can take 2 or 4 fibres bundles.

• The 5/3.5mm tubes can accommodate 2,4,8 or 12 fibre bundles.

Pre-Kitted Closures

Emtelle supply a range of closures which are pre-fitted with all the tubes and trays, saving time, improving quality and de-skilling the closure installation process.

Pre-Kitting the dome enclosures includes :

• Installation and resin of tubes into all ports

• Individual tube labelling for identiifcation and as built records

• Tubes are capped off to make them air and water tight

• Closures are pressure tested in a laboratory environment to ensure they are fully tested to ensure that they are air and watertight before arrival to site.

The above can be carried out

using the standard Open Reach

Tyco Closures

Manhole Replacement for Homes

(110mm Core Drill Installation)The costs for supply and installation of manholes plays a significant part in the roll out of FTTH and FTTP. Emtelle has developed smaller underground chambers / access points, specifically for FTTP Applications.

home (buried)

Toby Box is available

with lockable lid

Benefits of 110mm Manhole Box

• Simple 110mm core drill installation

• Enough room for 2 tubes for 2 homes

• Tubes can be coiled in Manhole Box ready for dropping to a home in the future

• Very Cheap Installation

• Can be located very close to customer boundary

Home Drops (No Existing Duct)

Mini drilling technologies and equipment are being used in the USA for drilling under the side walks to the homes under gardens to reducec customer drop costs and time.
