Golf is in Full Effect! (Continued from page 1) The 2011 Oliver Cup Matches were held at Red Hawk Country Club June 3-5. The qualifiers in the Senior and Super Sen-ior Divisions from the SNGA played against the NNGA in a biannual Ryder Cup style event. In the end the NNGA prevailed by ½ point to win their first Oliver Cup since its inception in 2008. The US Pub Links Qualifier was held at Rio Secco Golf Club on June 8-9. Max Marsico of Las Vegas Nevada fired a two day 145 (+1) to win and qualify for the US Public Links Championship at Bandon Dunes. Bryan Hogan finished with the first alternate spot at 146 (+2) and Michael Soroka took second alternate spot with a 150 (+6). The Southwest Golf Club in conjunction with SNGA, held its second SNGA/SGC Social Event at The Club at Southshore on June 14th. The event was a huge success, raising money for local charities, The First Tee of Southern Nevada, and Gimme Shelter Foundation. 84 players were on hand to participate in a fun 2 person best ball event. Winners received gift certificates in the Southshore proshop and contest winner won Cleveland Golf Merchandise. The event was truly a suc-cess and we are happy to have the support of our members for these local charities. The US Junior Amateur Qualifier was held at Boulder Creek Golf Club on June 21-22. AJ McInerney of Henderson Ne-vada, ranked 11 on the US Junior Amateur Rankings (scratchplayers.org), fired and opening round 65 and followed it with an even par 72 to win the event and qualify for the US Junior Amateur Championship. Tanner Hughes of Valencia Califor-nia finished in the 1st alternate spot with a two day total of 140 (-4). Soungjae Baek of Henderson Nevada took the 2nd al-ternate spot shooting a 2 under 142. The 2011 Clark County Amateur was also held at Boulder Creek Golf Club. The Senior and Super Senior event was held June 23-24 and the Scratch and Net competition was held June 25-26. Doug Pool showed no signs of slowing down his golf game. Pool took home low honors in the Sen ior Division with a blistering two day total of 138 (-6). Steve Fink finished 2nd with a two day total of 145 (+1). John Garrett finished 3rd at 146 (+2). In the Senior Net Division Bill Spencer defeated John Garrett in a three hole playoff to take home low honors. Both Spencer and Garrett fired 140 (-4) to get into a playoff. Jim O’Hare made a strong showing finishing 3rd with a two day total of 141 (-3). In the Super Senior Division, newcomer Richard Schroeder played extraordinary golf and took home low scratch honors with a two day total of 3 under 141. Chip Bridges returned to amateur events with fashion finish-ing 2nd at 147 (+3). Sev Leoffler and James Miller finished tied for 3rd at 149. In the Super Senior Net Division, Jim Cail won by 4 shots with a two day total of 137 (-7). Russ Gard finished second with a two day total of 141(-3) and Mike Bridges finished 3rd after a inspired 1st day at 64 (-8) and a two day total of 142 (-2). Joe Rada played two consistent rounds of golf to win the Net Division crown. Two rounds of 68 Net (-4) brought Rada’s total to 136 (-8). Rob Zoine found his way into second place with a two day total of 140 (-4). Dennis Moore continued his hot play finishing in 3rd place with a 3 under 141 (-3). The Scratch Division brought out a lot of new players and a few familiar faces including two-time Clark County Amateur Champion and 2011 Pacific Coast Team Member Joe Sawaia. Young gun JT Mohlman was also in the field and found himself trailing by 2 shots to Manny Estes (70) going into Sunday’s final round. JT fired a 3 under par 69 on the final day to post a two day total of 141 (-3) to beat the field by two shots and claim the trophy and title of Clark County Amateur Cham-pion. Joe Sawaia claimed yet another top 10 finish. He and fierce competitor Vince Collet finished in a tie for 2nd at 143 (-1). The SNGA would like to thank all the courses involved in making June a stellar month for golf. We would also like to thank all of our Volunteers for their hard work and diligence during these busy schedules, without them our tournaments wouldn’t be possible. Misunderstood Rules Provided by SNGA

13-2. Improving Lie, Area of Intended Stance or Swing, or Line of Play A player must not improve or allow to be improved: the position or lie of his ball, the area of his intended stance or swing, his line of play or a reasonable extension of that line beyond the hole, or the area in which he is to drop or place a ball, by any of the following actions: pressing a club on the ground, moving, bending or breaking anything growing or fixed (including immovable obstructions and objects defining out of bounds), creating or eliminating irregularities of surface, removing or pressing down sand, loose soil, replaced divots or other cut turf placed in position, or removing dew, frost or water. However, the player incurs no penalty if the action occurs: in grounding the club lightly when ad-dressing the ball, in fairly taking his stance, in making a stroke or the backward movement of his club for a stroke and the stroke is made, in creating or eliminating irregularities of surface within the teeing ground (Rule 11-1) or in remov-ing dew, frost or water from the teeing ground, or on the putting green in removing sand and loose soil or in repairing damage (Rule 16-1).

13-3. Building Stance

A player is entitled to place his feet firmly in taking his stance, but he must not build a stance.

Penalty For Breach of Rule: Match play - Loss of hole; Stroke play - Two strokes.

Definitions:

Stance: consists in a player placing his feet in position for and preparatory to making a stroke

Stroke: the forward movement of the club made with the intention of striking at and moving the ball, but if a player checks his downswing voluntarily before the clubhead reaches the ball he has not made a stroke.

Line of play: the direction that the player wishes his ball to take after a stroke, plus a reasonable distance on either side of the in-tended direction. The line of play extends vertically upwards from the ground, but does not extend beyond the hole

Obstructions: anything artificial,  including the artificial surfaces and sides of roads and paths and manufactured  ice, except: a. Objects defining out of bounds, such as walls, fences, stakes and railings; b. Any part of an immovable artificial object that is out of bounds; and c. Any construction declared by the Committee to be an integral part of the course.  An obstruction is a movable obstruction if it may be moved without unreasonable effort, without unduly delaying play and without causing damage. Other‐wise,  it  is an  immovable obstruction.   Note: The Committee may make a Local Rule declaring a movable obstruction to be an immovable obstruction. Stakes identifying out of bounds are not obstructions and are deemed to be fixed.

Addressing the ball: A player has "addressed the ball" when he has taken his stance and has also grounded his club, except that in a hazard a player has addressed the ball when he has taken his stance.
