unlock yield potential with the right trait packageIf it weren’t for the bugs, disease and that little thing called the weather that varies so much, farming in the South would be easy. New trait technology can minimize those headaches, but the key to harnessing its power is pairing the right traits with the right genetics. Golden Acres incorporates the traits you want only in proven genetic platforms scientifically selected for top performance across the South.

We evaluate all the technologies emerging from Bayer CropScience, Dow AgroSciences, Dupont, Monsanto, and Syngenta to pair the best ones with our highest performing southern-selected genetics. That results in a variety of insect and herbicide protection traits, maturity ranges, seed treatments and price points that can maximize your profits. Talk to your local Golden Acres Seed Specialist. Let them help you select the options that best fit your farm.

Genetic Families Chart

The chart below can help you keep up with the newest trait version of that one particular hybrid that works best on your farm. It illustrates the genetic relationship between our most popular southern hybrids. for example, new Golden Acres 27V01 has the same genetic background as Golden Acres 27Z07 and 2839RR, but carries the VT Triple prO trait. We call that shared background a genetic family. You can expect the same agronomic characteristics from all three hybrids; they just carry different insect protection traits. New additions to the Golden Acres line are highlighted in red on the chart, for easy recognition. If you have more questions, feel free to call us at our Waco, Texas office.

The simplest way to select the best seed…

Making sense of seed selection every year you sweat the same decision: “Which seed do I choose?” With all the promises of incredible yields the better question might be, “What issues do I face?” No combination of hybrid or trait package works the best everywhere. Turn a skeptical eye to anyone who tells you different.

It’s all about finding hybrids that are proven to perform in your area. Start by factoring in your yield target, desired plant population and the corresponding length of maturity you need. You also need the technology that protects your seed investment from the appetite of insects or the threat of disease. If you need help, use our new Custom Seed Selector or contact a Golden Acres Seed Specialist. It’ll add to your peace of mind.

Custom Seed SelectorLast year we introduced our Trait Value Calculator, to show the potential return on investment for your seed purchase. This year, we’ve added the Custom Seed Selector. Just put in your unique specifications, such as plant population, soil type, yield target, insect problems and disease issues, and the Custom Seed Selector will present you with the best Golden Acres hybrid options.

Try it for yourself at www.GAseed.com. And when you choose “Click to Confirm” a Golden Acres Seed Specialist will contact you to verify it’s the right choice for your farm.

It only takes 3 damaged kernels to add up to 1 bushel of lost yield on your farm...

Golden Acres Genuity™ Vt triple Pro™ corn hybridsWe combined the toughest, southern-adapted genetics with the most advanced insect protection available and introduced six Golden Acres Genuity™ VT Triple prO™ corn hybrids. The technology virtually eliminates corn earworm, fall armyworm, corn rootworm, and corn borer from the picture, killing those pests before they can damage your crop. With dual modes of action, it also allows for a refuge reduction from 50 percent to 20 percent in cotton-growing areas, making it’s impact on your profitability unparalleled.

The added control of corn earworm and fall armyworm results in improved grain quality and a significant reduction in the risk of aflatoxin contamination. plant pathologist Dr. Gary Odvody of Texas A & M has performed extensive testing on the trait and concludes, “It’s a good product. By controlling stalk borers, corn earworm, fall armyworm and corn rootworm, I think it’s going to pay off in more years than not. However, it’s not a substitute for good genetics. It’s another component to be added to our arsenal to reduce risk.”

Combine that kind of protection with the 5 bushels per acre yield advantage you get from genetics developed specifically for the South by Golden Acres and you’ll get the best performing hybrids you’ve ever planted. Ask your Seed Specialist or visit our website (www.GAseed.com) to use the trait value calculator (see page 5) and learn how Golden Acres Genuity™ VT Triple prO™ hybrids can increase profitability on your farm.

■ Provides a broader spectrum of insect control against corn earworm, corn borer and fall armyworm, resulting in higher yield potential and better grain quality potential

■ It is the industry’s first dual mode-of-action, above ground insect protection in corn, stacked with below ground insect protection and Roundup Ready® 2 Technology

■ Gives farmers in the South the opportunity to reduce their refuge acres from 50% to 20%, which can increase profitability on their farms

■ For every 3 kernels lost per ear of corn, 1 bushel per acre is lost

Finding the best options for all different types of Southern soil...

Growers often tell us that their Golden Acres corn and grain sorghum hybrids hold up better under tough growing conditions than seed products they buy from some of the “national” seed companies. That’s no accident. Most of the time the “southern hybrids” they sell you are actually developed in the fertile soil of Iowa or Illinois.

We put our products through a series of rigorous tests, all based right here in the South. We evaluate performance on: 12 different soil types, irrigated and dry-land conditions, low to high plant populations, heavy to light insect pressure, and in some of the most drought prone conditions.

from intensive in-house yield and performance trials, to independent university tests, our southern hybrids are tough enough for the region where they’re grown. It’s no big surprise that our hybrids even win our competitors’ tests plots.

PLEASE READ BEFORE PLANTING

PRODUCT INFORMATION

This hybrid contains the GenuityTM VT Triple ProTM insect protection traits. GenuityTM

VT Triple PROTM hybrids contain the active ingredients Cry1A.105, Cry2Ab2 and

Cry3Bb1 from Bacillus thuringiensis (B.t.) that together provide excellent protection

against European corn borer, southwestern corn borer, sugarcane borer, southern

cornstalk borer, corn earworm, fall armyworm, cornstalk borer, western corn rootworm,

northern corn rootworm, and Mexican corn rootworm. These insect protection traits

are approved by EPA under Registration Number 524-576 (MON 89034 X MON 88017).

This hybrid also contains Roundup Ready 2 TechnologyTM that provides crop safety

for over-the-top applications of labeled Roundup® agricultural herbicides when applied

according to label directions.

MANAGEMENT GUIDELINES

Insecticides - Under typical conditions with this product, insecticide applications should

not be necessary to prevent yield loss caused by European corn borer, southwestern corn

borer, western corn rootworm larvae, northern corn rootworm larvae, or Mexican corn

rootworm larvae.

IRM - To help preserve the effectiveness of the B.t. corn technologies, growers planting

GenuityTM VT Triple PROTM are required to follow an Insect Resistance Management

(IRM) Plan. Details on planting a refuge, and other requirements of the IRM Plan, are

provided in the GenuityTM VT Triple PROTM section of the IRM Guide and Monsanto’s

Technology Use Guide. Growers are required to plant a corn refuge.

Planting a corn refuge for both corn borers and corn rootworms. The corn refuge must

be planted with corn hybrids that do not contain B.t. technologies for the control of corn

borers or corn rootworms. The corn refuge for this product must represent at least 20%

of the grower’s total corn acres and must be within or adjacent to the GenuityTM VT Triple

PROTM field. Unlike other corn products containing above-ground insect protection,

the required refuge percentage for GenuityTM VT Triple PROTM is the same in corn- and

cotton-growing areas. The corn refuge can be treated with an insecticide to control

rootworm larvae and other soil pests. The refuge can also be treated with a non-B.t. foliar

insecticide for control of late season pests if pest pressure reaches an economic threshold

for damage; however, if rootworm adults are present at the time of foliar applications then

the GenuityTM VT Triple PROTM field must be treated in a similar manner.

27V01—the Genuity™ VT Triple PRO™ hybrid from the genetic family that still can’t be beat

We’re always looking for the newest and best in southern-adapted genetics. But we also know to hold onto a good thing when we find it. The 27V01 family of genetics has developed a reputation for producing the top-yielding corn hybrids in the southern U.S.

We’ve tested plenty of contenders, but so far no set of genetics has been able to unseat this champion when it comes to all-around performance. As long as it keeps topping plots, we figure we’ll keep it around.

David BakerSkidmore, TXI started planting Golden Acres eight years ago after a severe drought year.

My neighbor’s field was the only good-looking corn I’d seen all summer, and it had a Golden Acres sign in front of it. It’s done well for me ever since…

reduce refuge requirements with Genuity™ Vt triple Pro™ and Genuity™ SmartStax™

In fields planted with any Genuity™ VT Triple prO™ or Genuity™ SmartStax™ hybrids, the refuge requirement is cut from 80 percent down to 20 percent in cotton growing areas of the South.

The dual modes of insect control provided by these Genuity™ traits against targeted above-ground pests reduce the likelihood of insect resistance. This provides enhanced trait durability and allows for reduced refuge acres for corn farmers in cotton-growing areas. planting Genuity™ SmartStax™ even allows for reduced refuge requirements in corn-growing (or non-cotton growing) areas from 20 percent to an unprecedented 5 percent. for complete IrM requirements, be sure to ask your Golden Acres Seed Specialist, or consult the official IrM Guide.

Common Refuge

% non-B.t. refuge: The refuge area must represent at least 20 percent of the farmer’s corn acres (Genuity™ VT Triple prO™

and/or GenuityTM SmartStaxTM plus refuge acres)

refuge planting: refuge must be planted with corn hybrids that do not contain B.t. technologies. The refuge can be planted with

roundup ready Corn 2 or conventional corn.

refuge location: The refuge can be within or adjacent to the Genuity™ VT Triple prO™ and/or GenuityTM SmartStaxTM field. If

adjacent, it can be separated by a road, path, ditch, etc., but not by another field.

refuge configuration options: refuge can be planted as a block, strips with the field or as a perimeter around the field. See

refuge configuration options on page 14.

Size: If perimeter or strips are used for the refuge, the strips must be at least four consecutive rows wide.

Control target: Serves as a refuge for both corn borer and corn rootworm. The common refuge offers convenience by combining

the corn borer and corn rootworm refuges into one effective corn refuge.

treatment: The common refuge can be treated with a soil-applied, seed-applied or foliar-applied insecticide to control rootworm

larvae and other soil pests.

The refuge can also be treated with a non-B.t. foliar-applied insecticide for control of late-season pests (i.e. corn borer), if pest

pressure reaches an economic threshold for damage. However, if rootworm adults are present at the time of foliar application, then

the Genuity™ VT Triple prO™ and/or GenuityTM SmartStaxTM field must be treated in a similar manner.

B.t. corn refuge(non-B.t. corn)

First generation B.t. technologies still require 50 percent refuge in cotton growing areasIf you are planting a hybrid(s) other than our Genuity™ VT Triple prO™ or Genuity™ SmartStax™ corn hybrids, you must plant at least a 50 percent refuge. The environmental protection Agency (epA) requires that growers plant a refuge as part of an Insect resistance Management (IrM) plan when they use B.t. hybrids.

Insect resistance Management is critical for preventing insects like corn borers and rootworms from becoming resistant to the biotech trait in the B.t. hybrid. The refuge must contain a similar non-B.t. hybrid as to the rest of the field. Technology suppliers that receive approval from the epA monitor compliance of refuge requirements by using different forms of auditing, whether by phone or personal visits. During an audit, technology suppliers assess a grower’s adherence to the required refuge size, distance and treatment requirements. In-person audits typically require seed invoices or field examinations.

Growers who are out of compliance may be penalized.

refuge requirements vary by product and planting location. Use the guide below to help, or ask your Golden Acres Seed Specialist if you have questions. A copy of the complete IrM Guide is also available on our website at www.GAseed.com.

He will also send you rain for the seed you sow in the ground, and the food that comes from the land will be rich and plentiful. In that day your cattle will graze in broad meadows.

Page 22: 2011 Seed Solutions for the South

Cutting-edge technology from a trusted nameGolden Acres has been the name to trust in grain sorghum since 1952. Our sorghum line-up has been honed over the years to consistently yield higher than our competitors across the tough and varied growing conditions of the South. In 2011, you’ll continue to get top performance from our southern-bred sorghum hybrids.

We’ve reached that 59 year mark because we focus on looking forward. The first new herbicide-tolerant grain sorghum hybrids are expected to be available for testing in the 2012 growing season—and Golden Acres has positioned itself to be one of the first companies to bring this exciting new technology, called Inzen™, to market.

for now, sorghum growers are limited to pre-emergence grass herbicides that require rainfall for activation. These treatments can be inconsistent, especially when the rain doesn’t come. The new ALS-tolerant and ACCase-tolerant Inzen traits will provide sorghum growers with post-emergence grass and broadleaf weed control options for more versatile application timing.

HYBRIDS AND CHARACTERISTICS

“for many years, the complaint has been that there really hasn’t been any new technology come into sorghum—and that’s been discouraging to a lot of producers who had some grass control issues and have had to go to other crops with over-the-top technologies to control their grass problems,” said Jeff Dahlberg, research director for the United Sorghum Checkoff program (USCp). “We look forward to this technology helping to restore sorghum as a major part of a crop rotation system on many of those farms.”

The Inzen trait line features tolerance to Dupont’s ALS and ACCase herbicides Assure II® and Zest™. Zest is the tank mix application, Assure II the broad post-emergence choice.

for the last five years, Golden Acres has only tested new or experimental varieties that will eventually carry the Inzen trait, allowing for a smoother transition to this new technology. The first Golden Acres hybrids to carry the trait will be 3552, 3464 and 3696. Stay tuned for more information on new Inzen herbicide-tolerant grain sorghum from Golden Acres.

22

65-69 Days to Mid-Bloom*

• Medium maturity hybrid with excellent standability.

• High yielding hybrid outperforms even later maturity hybrids.

• Attractive, very uniform plant with hard red seed to resist grain weathering.

• Open-headed companion hybrid to Golden Acres 737.

3464 Medium

67-70 Days to Mid-Bloom*

• High-yielding defensive hybrid with excellent standability; handles stress extremely well.

• Superb versatility allows for planting on a wide range of soil types.

• Blooms fast for less susceptibility to midge damage.

• Good emergence and disease tolerance.
