Academic Mission Statement Understanding of, and design for ecologies of information, technology, and use in a

continously changing social, economical, and organizational context

Industry Expectation: Technics which help to optimize make product more attractive and consumable in the

context of work, life, and society and have a potential of transforming the way we live.

EUSSET applies methods to understand the interrelationship between people and their practices and IT artifacts within a continous appropriation process to establish transferrable methods and insights about that help to have a positive impact on society.

Design Object

Differentiator: Design Object

In SET, the object of design is not the IT-artifact itself, but the larger social context of use.

In many situations, the impact and change in the social context can be the primary design goal and the IT-artifact is only instrumental.

Each context level has its own characteristics which must be considered, e.g.: Society: Rules, Norms, .. Life: Personal Goals and Desires Work: Business Situation Models

Differentiator: Longitudinal Design Approach

Design in Time

SET looks at design not as a snapshot of creative work, but as a continuous, interwoven appropriation process between IT artifact and context of use

Continously Changing Context

Context has its own dynamic due to a multitude of IT artifacts being introduced and new eco-systems evolving
