BUZZ FROM THE BOARDS

Another dream come true! This dream — to immerse ourselves in the frenetic energy of New York city — was tempered by my nightmare of being more like ”Ma & Pa Kettle Visit Manhattan”. A little preplanning and research resulted in our week’s itinerary, as well as substantial savings of time, energy and dollars.

we booked our seven-night stay with RCI’s Extra Vacations and our one-bedroom unit at The Manhattan Club was spacious and clean, the staff very accommodating and the location was perfect for exploring New York. we also upgraded our RCI membership to Points Platinum enabling us to book Broadway tickets at discounts and to receive them before our departure, as well as the Explorer Pass-go card. The go-card allows you to select the number of attractions you would like to experience and eliminates standing in admission queues, again for significant discounts.

we landed at laguardia Airport in Queens and made our way to the yellow cabs. Do up your seatbelts! we sped towards Manhattan via the Queens / Midtown Tunnel and after checking into The Manhattan Club found Morton williams Market Place only a block away with everything we would need.

we began our adventure with a Bike & Roll Tour (#1 on go-Card) of Central Park. The bike tour was a great time-savvy way to

see most of the park and to learn the more intricate details. Your inner child will love the Carrousel, then relax and enjoy “people watching” from a park bench at the Mall. You can see Central Park more leisurely from a horse drawn carriage or man/bike rickshaw, for a price of course. A Broadway show is a must. we thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the gershwin Theatre where we took in the show “wicked”. Our second choice on the go-Card was the Hop on-Hop off bus tour. we opted to upgrade for an extra $12.00 which gave us unlimited use for 48 hours on all their tours. we hopped on at Time Square and traveled through Manhattan, hopping off at Battery Park. The ferries depart from Battery Park and we soon found ourselves walking around liberty Island in awe of the Statue of liberty that stands proudly atop Fort wood, an 11 pointed star fortress. Next stop, Ellis Island, and if you suspect your family immigrated through this harbour, for $5.00 you can search 12 different names by computer. The Night Tour from Manhattan to Brooklyn lends itself to some amazing views of the city’s night skyline.

#3 on the go-card was the Empire State Building and up 86 floors to enjoy the view. After I stepped out on the viewing deck and was able to breathe again, I even opened my eyes. go-card attraction #4 was a spectacular exhibit of articles from King

Tut’s tomb on tour from Egypt. My husband, being a huge Yankees fan,

necessitated our venturing into the subway system and thankfully arrived in the Bronx, outside Yankee Stadium — a very impressive structure and we cheered them on until the STORM. The tarp removal from the infield after a 2 ½ hour rain delay was amazing; riding back on the subway to Columbus Circle at 1:15 am, not so amazing, but real motivation for power walking.

Stroll 5th Ave. and experience the rush of people and the famous shops. The Muppet workbench in F.A.O. Schwartz made me feel like a 5-year-old standing in front of Santa’s workshop, but I quickly matured upon entering Tiffany’s. Rockefeller Centre, Trump Tower, ground Zero, Soho, greenwich Village… There seems to be an infinite number of things to see and do, and although we visited during the warm weather of September, no doubt the changing seasons will bring a whole new set of adventures to enjoy in the Big Apple.

Six fun-filled days allowed us to savour a “taste” of what the Big Apple has to offer. we ♥ NY! Until next time, make every day an adventure! — Elaine

Neepawa Condominium Corporation #3I. The Board of Directors was pleased with the success of the 2011 AGM held in Winnipeg at the Victoria Inn. The change of location was well received allowing the Owners from that area of the province a better opportunity to take part in the Morning Information Session and the afternoon AGM. The Board sincerely values the dedication and contribution of Owners and Staff that resulted in a productive and successful day.

II. The 2012 AGM is slated to return to the Elkhorn Resort on April 21, 2012 and we are exploring the 2013 AGM being held in Brandon. The hope is that the different

venues will facilitate the maximum number of Owners access to attending the AGM.

Consumer wARNINgMany of our owners continue to report being contacted by companies implying they represent Elkhorn or RCI. The majority seem to offer the opportunity to sell or rent your vacation program. Inevitably they will ask you for an up front fee for the service. Regretfully it seems these companies, usually based in Florida, never actually sell or rent anything and the fee is wasted. In the event you are ever contacted regarding your Elkhorn Vacation program and there is uncertainty as to who is actually calling, please don't hesitate to contact client services to confirm whether it is legitimate. Never provide detailed information regarding your account over the phone.

2011 RCI FeesRCI has set transaction and subscription fees for the current year

by Stephen Tadman, general ManagerElkhorn Vacations for life

w e are pleased to report that Elkhorn’s Vacation for life program is continuing to

expand its offering of goods and services for our owners. As you may be aware, we introduced the Elkhorn Advantage Program last summer. The response has been overwhelmingly positive.

One of the many advantages of the new Elkhorn Vacation Club is the ability to upgrade to larger points programs at extremely favourable rates. We have also added a component that provides access to wholesale discounts on a range of travel services not normally offered through a timeshare program.

The most recent Advantage is that club members have gained partner status with Shell Vacations. This exciting program provides a 25% discount when booking

rooms in any Shell property. The Shell network comprises a beautiful collection of resorts in the United States and Canada, including five properties in Hawaii.

If you have not yet attended an information meeting to learn about the many new options available to you, we would encourage you to do so. In the meantime we have provided a brief overview of the current properties available to club members in this edition of the Echo.
