85% of students supported with 1:1 or small group tutoring from a corps member showed academic improvement.

77% of middle school students failing English at the start of the year were passing by the end of the year.

Students who received at least one month of City Year attendance monitoring achieved an average daily attendance rate of nearly 92% for the year.

City Year Louisiana hosted six large-scale service projects, engaging 1,017 community members, corporate sponsors and students in over 6,461 hours of community service.

More than one million students - one every 26 seconds - give up on school each year. Fifty percent of those dropouts come from just 12 percent of schools. City Year corps members choose to serve where the need is greatest. Of the 189 schools we serve nationwide, three quarters are among the lowest performing five percent in their state.

Forty corps members at City Year Baton Rouge are making a difference in four of the city’s highest need schools. Research shows that students at risk of dropping out can be identified as early as sixth grade by three early warning indicators – poor attendance, disruptive behavior and course failure in math and English. Our model Whole School Whole Child is based on that research, and corps members work with students identified as at risk. City Year corps members provide:

Academic Support: Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring before, during and after school

Attendance and Positive Behavior Encouragement: Lead energetic morning greetings, make attendance and positive phone calls home and lead mentor groups

Community and School Improvements: Organize and lead activities, celebrations and projects to improve the community and school environment

91% of elementary school students tutored by City Year improved their score on literacy assessments.

77% of students in grades 7-9 previously failing English moved to passing.

100% of principals are satisfied/very satisfied with the overall experience of working with City Year.

More than one million students drop out of school each year. Dropouts are more likely to be unemployed and incarcerated. City Year Boston is a priority partner of the Boston Public Schools (BPS) to increase learning time, prevent students from dropping out and help them to succeed academically. Through our partnership with BPS, 177 City Year Boston corps members are serving in 14 Boston schools this year and will expand next year to serve 25% of off-track students. Using City Year’s research-based Whole School Whole Child service model, corps members focus on students who exhibit the three early warning indicators - poor attendance, unsatisfactory behavior, or course failure in English or math - identified by John Hopkins University as characteristics of students who are most at risk of dropping out. Corps members support students and schools with:

Academic Support: Provide one-on-one or small group tutoring before, during and after school

Attendance and Positive Behavior Encouragement: Lead energetic morning greetings, make attendance and positive phone calls home and lead mentor groups

Community and School Improvements: Organize and lead activities, celebrations and projects to improve the community and school environment

At Hamilton STEM and Weinland Park 97% of students tutored by City Year improved their TRC score by an average by 4.1 lettered levels from start to end of year.

96% of teachers report that City Year corps members helped improve the overall academic performance of their students.

Twenty-five corps members at City Year Columbus are making a difference in three of the city’s highest need schools.

25 corps members serve in 3 Columbus schools:

• Hamilton STEM Academy• Linden McKinley STEM Academy• Weinland Park Elementary School

City Year corps members choose to serve where the need is greatest. Of the 189 schools we serve nationwide, three quarters are among the lowest performing five percent in their state.

Fifty-two corps members at City Year New Hampshire are making a difference in six of New Hampshire’s highest need schools.

More than one million students - one every 26 seconds - gives up on school each year. Fifty percent of those dropouts come from just 12 percent of schools. City Year corps members choose to serve where the need is greatest. Of the 189 schools we serve nationwide, three quarters are among the lowest performing five percent in their state.

Eighty-one corps members at City Year San Antonio are making a difference in 10 of San Antonio’s highest need schools.
