Due to World War II, EshmontsNFL career placed on hold beginning in1942. From 1942-1944, Len Eshmontplayed on Naval Pre-Flight school teams.CommissionedtotheUSNavyin1942Esh-montservedasaphysicaleducationinstruc-torwithnavalpre-flight schools around thecountry.Heplayed forNorthCarolinapre-flightschoolin1942underhisoldcoach,JimCrowley.While playing on this team, therewere 10 other Fordham alumni. The teamfinished7-2butlosttheirfinalgamewithascoreof6-0toFordhamUniversity.In1943,heteamedwithstarleft-handedquarterbackFrankieAlbert tomakeSt.Maryspre-flightnaval school intooneof thebestwestcoastfootball teams. Len Eshmont was the onlyplayernamedtotheAll-Starserviceteamsforthreeconsecutiveyearsfrom1942-1944. AfterWorldWar II LenEshmont,attheageof29,resumedhispro-footballca-reerasamemberoftheSanFrancisco49ers,whichwas part of theAllAmericaFootballconference. Eshmont had the first rushingtouchdownin49erhistory!Eshmontplayedeffectivelyforthe49ersfrom1946-1949androlled up an impressive statistics. His mostproductive seasonwas his first in which herushed73timesfor340yardsandsixtouch-downs. He also caught 17 passes for 287yards and two touchdowns. Spaghetti Dinner Wednesday November 9

Its Rotary spaghetti time! Enjoy a generous serving of the spaghetti and/or spaghetti/meatballs that will be pre-pared and served by Rotary Club mem-bers at the Best Western Genetti Inn & Suites on Wednesday November 9, 2011 4:30pm-7:00pm. Dinner will include salad, spa-ghetti, meatballs, dessert and coffee and tea. Tickets are only $8.50 for adults and $5.00 children. Take outs will be available at the same time as dinner service, 4:30pm to 7:00pm. The proceeds from the dinner will help fund the Rotary Club of Hazle-tons Annual Scholarship Award pre-sented to area seniors. Tackling the Winter Season with an Annual Flu Shot

Formany, theNortheastern Penn-sylvania winter season is a dreaded time ofyear.The cold weather settles in and snowaccumulates.Fall andwinteralso reflect thereturnofflushotsasuresignthattheinevi-tablesickseasonloomsahead. EugeneGorski,MD,aboardcerti-fiedphysicianwithAllianceMedicalGroupFamilyPractice,saysThebenefitoftheflushotistoprotectanindividualfromthemostactive forms of the flu that will be presentduringthewintermonths. (NAPSA)-The good news is that hearing loss is preventable. That's just as well, as it's growing among youngsters. According to hearing experts, loud sounds destroy tiny, inner- ear hair cells. With damage to just 30 percent of these hair cells, which convert sound waves into nerve impulses that are sent to the brain, hearing loss can result. To help, the Starkey Hearing Foundation launched Listen Carefully and offers these tips:

Avoid prolonged exposure to MP3 players and other sound-emitting devices.

If you're wearing earbuds and oth-ers can hear the music, it's too loud.

At concerts and when operating loud equipment, wear ear- plugs to control your personal noise level.

Have your hearing tested annually by a doctor or licensed audiolo-gist-the tests may be free.
