Driven by Ownerships top down direction, the Mets embrace the philosophy of Doing Well While Doing Good to give back to the community through multiple platforms and initiatives in and around the Tri-State area. Ownership, players, executives and front-office staff leverage the appeal of the Mets to positively impact organizations and individuals in our hometown by addressing social, cultural and educational needs. The Mets work together with our community, sponsors and partners on a variety of programs involving schools, libraries, hospitals, museums and youth baseball leagues.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

The New York Mets Foundation funds and promotes a variety of educational, social and athletic programs and other charitable causes. Founded in 1963, it continues its mission to invest in the future of our community, and to provide assistance to organizations that benefit children and others in need. A registered 501(c)3 charity, the Mets Foundation takes no portion of the funds raised to offset internal costs.The Mets pay 100% of the Foundation's overhead to ensure that the entirety of a donation is directed toward helping others.

PLAYER BIOS SCOUTING & MINORS

TEAMMETS

TeamMets is a community volunteerism initiative that directs the attention of the Mets and their players toward encouraging fans to join the team in helping others. Members of the Mets front office and players donate their time to events during the year, working with organizations including City Harvest, Urban Dove and the Everybody Wins! Foundation. To spread the word, the Mets produce a series of public service announcements that promote NYC Service, Mayor Bloombergs volunteer initiative which positions New York City as the easiest place in the world to volunteer.

The Mets, in conjunction with Citi and New York City, launched Teammates in the Community Week in 2010, a series of initiatives designed to foster the spirit of volunteerism and service in their hometown. Mets Ownership, players and front-office executives participated in a series of diverse community outreach initiatives to bring attention to the selfless work of local volunteers and highlight their impact on the community.R.A. MEDIA POSTSEASON HISTORY YEAR IN REVIEW

FUNDRAISINGThe Mets hold their annual Welcome Home Dinner at the start of the season to celebrate the return of the team to New York for another season. The players, manager, coaches and the rest of the organization attend the event that features a fundraising auction, raffle and autograph session. The gala, which raised over $800,000 for the Katz Womens Hospital and Womens Health Institute/North Shore-LIJ Health System and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society in 2010, is scheduled this year for Sunday night, April 10.

WELCOME HOME DINNER

A NIGHT TO BELIEVE

The Mets hosted their eighth annual Night to Believe fundraiser at Citi Field to benefit Project ALS, a non-profit organization renowned for its outstanding leadership in finding and funding treatments and a cure for Lou Gehrigs disease. Darryl Strawberry was part of a pre-game reception in celebration of the more than $200,000 raised in 2010 and almost $1.5 million over the past eight years.

STARLIGHT NIGHT

The Mets have partnered with ARAMARK the past eight years to raise $1.1 million for the Starlight Childrens Foundation, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children who suffer from critical, chronic and life-threatening illnesses. The 2010 event raised $160,000 as the Mets donated tickets and ARAMARK provided catering for 850 people in the Big Apple section of Citi Field. To celebrate the partnership of the Mets and Starlight, a Starlight Care Room was donated to NewYork Hospital of Queens in honor of the Mets. The room, which features a kid-friendly Mets theme, was dedicated in January by Jose Reyes, Josh Thole, and Terry Collins.2 2011 NEW YORK METS MEDIA GUIDE

EDUCATIONCiti Field Kids is an educational and motivational program for New York City school students conducted before select games at Citi Field. The community-based initiative, developed by Citi in collaboration with the Jackie Robinson Foundation, United Neighborhood Houses, and the Mets, seeks to positively impact middle and high school students through the nine values and ideals of Jackie Robinson. The pre-game program, which launched on Jackie Robinson Day April 15, 2009, begins with a private tour of the Jackie Robinson Rotunda led by a Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholar, followed by guest speakers from the Mets and Citi in the auditorium before an afternoon of baseball.

As part of their landmark partnership, the Mets and Citi have built on the teams longstanding relationship with the Jackie Robinson Foundation to support its education and leadership development program. The Foundation provides extensive mentoring and scholarships for college students who exemplify Jackie's humanitarian ideals and standard of excellence.The Mets established an endowed scholarship with the Foundation in 1996, which is created in perpetuity, to assist promising students in reaching their goals through a college education. Since 2000, Mets employees have visited P.S. 92 in Corona, Queens to read books and share lunch with the same fourth or fifth grader every week from November through May. The school visits are coordinated by the Everybody Wins! Foundation, a leading non-profit literacy and mentoring organization that pairs adult volunteers with children in elementary schools for weekly reading aloud and conversation. The Mets add a Reading Rally hosted by Mets player for the entire student body and an annual fourth grade field trip to Citi Field for a game.

STUDENT ATHLETE LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE SERIES

The Mets/Sharp Electronics Student Athlete Leadership Conference Series trains more than 1,200 student-athletes from 35 high schools on Long Island to deliver drug and alcohol abuse prevention programming to grade school children. The workshops prepare the Student Athlete Leaders for their ongoing visits with fifth graders in their school districts to promote positive activities such as sports while also educating students about the dangers of drugs and alcohol.

HELPING HANDSThe Mets and their broadcast television partner PIX 11 team up each spring to provide an educational and entertaining field trip for students prior to a game at Citi Field. The Acela Club became the North Pole as the Mets hosted their annual Holiday Party for Kids on December 14, 2010 at Citi Field with children from all five boroughs of New York City. In keeping with a decades-long tradition, David Wright played Santa and his elves,Terry Collins, Jason Bay, Carlos Beltran, and Ike Davis, helped hand out presents that had been selected and wrapped by Mets employees. The Mets and their longtime partners at the New York Blood Center collected a record-breaking 921 blood donations at Citi Field in 2010, which earned the Mets the Blood Centers prestigious Diamond Award. The Mets host two blood drives a year in the Caesars Club and thank each donor with a pair of tickets to a Mets game. Over the past decade, Mets fans have contributed 3,200 blood donations in support of the Centers mission.

The Mets continued their support of the New York Cares Annual Coat Drive in 2010 as the Mets Holiday Warm Up Coat Drive continued at Citi Field on December 15.Terry Collins, Jason Bay, Ike Davis and David Wright helped volunteers collect a recordbreaking 2,200 coats. Each donor received two tickets to a 2011 game at Citi Field. When the Mets were on the road,TeamMets and the grounds crew hosted their sixth annual Kids Day at Citi Field for children and families served by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of New York City.The grounds crew taught the children how to drag the infield, put Jason Bay,Terry Collins, David Wright and Ike Davis help colthe bases in place, and take a home run trot. After a lunch break in lect coats for the Mets Holiday Warm-Up Coat Drive. the Modells Clubhouse, Mets staff welcomed the group to the 2K Sports FanFest to enjoy its many activities.

PLAY BALL!The Mets provide financial support to the Greater New York Sandlot Athletic Alliance (GNYSAA) for citywide tournaments and programs including the organizations annual All-Star Games for 15-16 and 17-18 year old players at MCU Park, home of the Brooklyn Cyclones. The GNYSAA serves as an umbrella organization to several metropolitan amateur baseball organizations representing 20,000 young people and 1,100 teams each year. Since Harlem RBI named Mets centerfielder Carlos Beltran "Honorary Commissioner" in 2006, he has donated more than $235,500 to the program that provides year-round academic, enrichment and sports programs to children ages 7 to 18. Carlos donates $500 for every RBI he collects and since 2007, the Mets Foundation has matched that pledge, adding an additional $150,000 to the cause. Carlos also hosted a clinic for Harlem RBIs REAL Kids program participants at Citi Field and makes an annual appearance at their Field of Dreams on 101st Street in Harlem. The Mets Foundation sponsors the YMCA Jr. Mets, a comprehensive youth baseball program that emphasizes athletic and social skills while also teaching how to improve health and wellness.The YMCA Jr. Mets program is an eight-week initiative that has introduced thousands of young people to baseball since its inception in 2001. The Mets provide members with caps and arrange for a player and coach to lead a baseball clinic at a YMCA site and at Citi Field.

STRIKING OUT HUNGERCITY HARVESTThe Mets support City Harvest in its effort to feed the hungry in New York City by collecting excess food and delivering it to more than 600 community food programs. This past season, members of the Mets Alumni Association Presented by Citi and Citi employees repacked 25,000 pounds of apples on Mets Plaza at Citi Field, and Mets minor league standouts, prior to picking up their Sterling Awards, assisted in the distribution of food from a pantry in Jamaica, Queens. During the off-season, Carlos Beltran and Goya teamed up for a holiday delivery of food to the Community League of the Heights in Manhattan. For seven years, the Mets have hosted a fundraiser for Island Harvest, with last years event raising $35,000 to boost the total to $164,000. MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL PARTNERSHIPSMets owner Fred Wilpon and private citizens created Welcome Back Veterans, a national public awareness and fundraising initiative that addresses the mental health and employment needs of Americas returning war veterans and their families. Major League Baseball, Major League Baseball Advanced Media, the Entertainment Industry Foundation and the McCormick Foundation support the program, which provides returning veterans the quality medical treatment they deserve.The Mets salute a Veteran of the Game at each home game at Citi Field to build awareness of Welcome Back Veterans.

National Wheelchair Softball Tournament was played in New York City for the first time.

The New York Mets have hosted their annual Major League Wheelchair Softball Tournament at Shea Stadium and Citi Field from 2001-2010. In celebration of their 10-year collaboration with the United Spinal Association, New York Citys Parks and Recreation Department, Major League Baseball and the Wheelchair Sports Federation, the National Wheelchair Softball Tournament was brought to the east coast and New York City for the first time. Fourteen teams competed over three days in August and the top-ranked Nebraska Barons lived up to their reputation by taking home the championship trophy.

PITCH, HIT & RUN

Aquafina MLB Pitch, Hit and Run - the official skills competition of Major League Baseball - is a free grass roots program which encourages youth participation and emphasizes the fun of baseball. The competitors ability to hit, run, field and throw is tested at regional trials and compared with others in his or her age group across the United States to qualify for the National Finals held during Major League Baseballs All-Star Game. The Mets host an on-field regional competition at Citi Field and recognize the local winners in a pre-game ceremony. The Roberto Clemente Award, presented by Chevy, recognizes the player in Major League Baseball who best exemplifies the game of baseball, sportsmanship, community involvement and the individual's contribution to his team. In September, a nominee from each of the 30 MLB teams is announced on Roberto Clemente Day, established by MLB in 2002 to pay homage to the Hall of Famer's legacy. The Mets 2010 nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award was Angel Pagan. To support the growth of youth baseball and softball, the Baseball Tomorrow Fund (BTF) has teamed up with MLB clubs to organize equipment collection drives across the United States. The Mets have collected over 1,000 bats, gloves, balls and catchers gear the past three seasons to benefit the Greater New York Sandlot Bill Flook, Chevrolet New York Zone Athletic Alliance, which distributes the donations to area youth baseball Manager, presenting Angel Pagan with the organizations. The BTF also presents a grant of $5,000 to go toward the purchase Mets Roberto Clemente Award. of additional equipment. Major League Baseball and its 30 clubs join Susan G. Komen for the Cure each year for GoingTo Bat Against Breast Cancer, a program that incorporates numerous facets of the game on and off the field to generate awareness about breast cancer and raise funds to help fight the disease. Mothers Day games feature an Honorary Bat Girl, special in-park programs and a pink theme throughout, including many players using pink bats. Major League Baseball teams up with the Prostate Cancer Foundation on Fathers Day to increase awareness and early detection of prostate cancer. On-field personnel wear blue wristbands, eye glare and ribbon uniform decals, while blue ribbon logos appear on bases, commemorative home plates and line-up cards. A Home Run Challenge fundraising component is implemented during select MLB games to benefit the Prostate Cancer Foundation.David Wright went to bat against breast cancer.

OFFICE OF THE CHAIRMAN Elected Chairman of the Board of the New York Mets after he and his Sterling Equities partners acquired complete ownership of the team in August, 2002. President and Chief Executive Officer of the Mets from 1980-2002. A Brooklyn, NY native who has been closely identified with baseball since his days as a youngster. Instrumental in bringing baseball back to Brooklyn as the Chairman of the Brooklyn Baseball Company, which owns the Brooklyn Cyclones. Co-founder and Chairman of the Board of Sterling Equities, Inc. Graduated from the University of Michigan. Graduated from Lafayette High School in Brooklyn, where he played both baseball and basketball. President and partner of the Brooklyn Baseball Company, which owns the Brooklyn Cyclones. Serves on the boards of many non-profit organizations and institutions, including: Brooklyn College Foundation and Jewish Association for the Services of the Aged; in addition to being Honorary Chairman of the Board of the North Shore Long Island Jewish Health System.

Elected Chief Operating Officer of the New York Mets in August, 2002. Oversees the day-to-day Baseball and Business Operations of the club and the Mets Foundation. Chief Operating Officer of the Mets Development Company and Queens Ballpark Company, L.L.C., a wholly owned subsidiary of the New York Mets, responsible for the planning, design, development and construction of Citi Field. Executive Vice President at Sterling Equities, where he is responsible for development and major building construction. Serves on the boards of the MLB Network, MLB Enterprises, MLB Advanced Media and the RSDC, as well as many non-profit organizations. A former catcher, he was drafted by the Montreal Expos in 1983.

METS OWNERSHIPOCTOBER 17, 1961: The National League officially awarded a New York franchise to Mrs. Joan Whitney Payson. Her partners included M. Donald Grant and G. Herbert Walker. Following the death of Mrs. Payson at the age of 72, her husband Charles Shipman Payson took over control of the club. Lorinda de Roulet was named president of the Mets, succeeding her mother, Mrs. Joan Payson. Mrs. de Roulet was named Chairman of the Board of the Mets. She served until the club was sold in January, 1980. Ownership of the NewYork Mets changed hands for the first time in the club's history when Nelson Doubleday announced that Doubleday & Co. Inc. had purchased controlling interest in the team along with Fred Wilpon, Chairman of the Board of Sterling Equities Inc. and City Investing Co.The purchase price was $21,100,000, a then-record amount for a baseball club. Nelson Doubleday and Fred Wilpon purchased the Club from Doubleday and Company, Inc. Fred Wilpon and his Sterling Equities partners acquired Nelson Doubleday's 50 percent interest in the team and became the sole owners of the club.
