Can IHQ find You?

Greetings! I hope this edition of the Gold Dust finds you all enjoying the sunshine, friends and family! We’ve put together a diverse calendar this year and we sincerely hope you’ll choose one or two meetings/outings to join us and reconnect. I’m happy to announce I’ll be continuing my role as Alumnae Chapter President for the next term. I was asked to continue on as Province Director on our Volunteer Service Team as well as stay on as Alumnae Chapter President, but felt that I could do more for the Sorority here locally. (Also, with one little “legacy” running the show at home and another on the way in November, I needed to prioritize!) I truly am very excited to continue on as President because I really feel as though the Alumnae Chapter is off to a great start this year. We had a well-attended planning meeting in May and came up with some creative meeting ideas & new fundraising endeavors; in June we had a great turnout at John Christ Winery on a beautiful Summer Friday night! We hope you’ll continue to follow our pages on LinkedIn and Facebook for the latest updates and announcements. We’ve brought back some of the more popular meetings (Mock Recruitment and Shoebox Ministry) and also are going to throw a fantastic fundraiser in November at Charming Charlie’s at Legacy Village. We received many suggestions to attempt to “centralize” the meetings so we hope that since we’ve added a few on the East Side and “in the middle” that we’ll see some old and new faces! I hope you all have a terrific year and look forward to seeing all of you soon! Loyally, Kerry Jackson-Woloszynek ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Treasurer’s Report

Thank you to everyone for supporting the Greater Cleveland Alumnae Chapter during the 2010-2011 year. I am happy to announce that our paid membership increased this year from 13 to 18 members. I know we all become very busy trying to balance our families/friends, careers, and just the day-to-day normal responsibilities. I hope you can find some time to dedicate to AGD in the coming year as well. The time commitment is minimal and we enjoy seeing some new faces and catching up with old friends at the monthly meetings or events. I think we have some great things planned to meet the interests of everyone. I also would like to recognize the members that supported GCAC this year via support fees and/or donations. It is with this support that the chapter can continue to publish the newsletter each year, recognize Alpha Iota Collegiate’s with awards, and pay for our chapter to be represented at Convention every other year. Alum Chums For those of you who want to become involved with the Alpha Iota collegiates on a more personal level, being an “alum chum” is for you. By being an alum chum you show the collegiates that AGD is a lifelong commitment, not just a hobby during their 4 years of college. You can mentor our current collegiates showing them how Alpha Gamma Delta can help them achieve their full potential. New alum chums are needed for the upcoming new members of the 2011-2012 school year. Anyone who is interested should contact Linda Rist Ochs at [email protected] or (440) 353-3481.

Alumnae dues? What are those?

Alumnae dues are a voluntary, annual contribution of $40 to the Fraternity’s Operating Fund. The fund is used for day-to-day business operations of the fraternity, including maintaining International Headquarters. Alumnae dues also support: recruitment, extension, publication of the Quarterly, expansion, and further development of AGD’s website, Convention, and the Leadership Conference (TLC). Publication of collegiate, alumnae, and Volunteer Service Team handbooks and manuals are also included in this list. If you would like to send your non tax-deductible donation of $40, you can go online to www.alphagammadelta.org or include your name, mailing address, city, state, zip, email address, home phone, work phone, chapter, and check to:

The 2011 Leadership Conference By Sheri Kellner

Over four hundred Alpha Gamma Delta members met in Indianapolis, IN from June 24-26, 2011 for The Leadership Conference and Chapter Development Summit. The main focus of the weekend was the launch of the new Member Development Program - the Gamma Experience. It’s a new and exciting program designed for second and third year initiated members of AGD. The two years of the Gamma Experience provide members the opportunity to grow, learn more about themselves and develop skills that will impact the rest of their lives. The Gamma Experience focuses on celebrating the sisterhood of Alpha Gamma Delta while honoring the individual. The major focus of the program is to help members connect their personal growth with each line of the Alpha Gamma Delta Purpose. There are two other components of the Alpha Gamma Delta Experience. The Alpha Experience is run by the New Member Coordinator for new members Fraternity education. The Delta Experience is for senior members and reinforces a sense of community with sisters in their transition from collegiate to alumnae members. Running in conjunction with TLC, the purpose of the Chapter Development Summit was to familiarize the VST members with the shift in the collegiate member experience that is taking place with the implementation of the Gamma Experience and to understand the new and different expectations associated with the shift from “Chapter Management Team” to “Chapter Development Team.” Alpha Iota members that attended included: Marija Mijailovic, Alison Smith, Megan Wilson, Maria Carbenia and Sheri Kellner.

In addition to the front calendar events, the GCAC Jr. Circle has a few special events planned just for themselves. Expect a great night on the town ladies!

By Tera Meges Chmura

“To welcome the opportunity of contributing to the world’s work in the community where I am placed because of the joy of service thereby bestowed and the talent of leadership multiplied.” We all recognize these words from Alpha Gamma Delta’s Purpose which we were asked to memorize and recite during our collegiate years. As alumni we are called upon to continue this philanthropic tradition in the name of the Fraternity. We, the GCAC, do this as a group by holding and attending various fundraisers throughout the calendar year. Though, some of our sisters have taken it upon themselves to go beyond their AGD Alumnae Chapters and hold board positions in charitable foundations within their local communities. Loryn Frey, AI ’73, has been on the Advisory Board of the Central Louisiana Salvation Army for many years. She is currently on the Executive Committee and Chair of the Board of Development Committee. Additionally, she has served as Vice Chair and Chair in past years. In January she joined the Board of The Louisiana International Piano Competition, whose purpose is to attract the world's most promising young concert artists. “I was a shy thing when in college… if it hadn’t been for AGD I would probably still be hiding my light”, says Loryn. Susan De Pould, AI ’76, is on the Executive Board of University Circle United Methodist Women. This foundation does relief work and missions here in USA and around the world. Under the umbrella of United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR)-100% of donations go to relief efforts. It is the 2nd largest international relief agency after Red Cross. Also, Susan is a reading tutor to 1

st graders in

Cleveland Municipal School District. Tera Meges Chmura, EG ’04, served on the

Executive Board this past year as the Vice President Administration for the MOMS Club of North Royalton. The MOMS Club’s main purpose is to provide a community and support for all stay at home moms. Tera’s sole purpose on the board was philanthropic

contributions to the community, and during her term the club pursued 8 different charitable acts. They did various things ranging from making mother’s day cards for the women at the Cleveland Womens' and Children Shelter, to raising over $2,000 for the Cleveland chapter of the Upside of Downs, which raises money and awareness for Down Syndrome.

The GCAC has multiple charitable events set up for

our members to take part throughout the 2011-2012 calendar year.

September 18 the GCAC is participating in the JDRF walk which raises money for Juvenile Diabetes.

November 2 from 6-8pm we are having a fundraiser at Charming Charlie in Legacy Village. It costs $5 at the door, all of which goes to the GCAC, and you receive 20% off your entire purchase that evening. Charming Charlie is a women's fashion accessories store that carries affordable women's fashion accessories and fashion jewelry in its boutiques. There will be a basket raffle, light refreshments and snacks.

December 6 the GCAC is having it’s annual Shoebox Ministry at Nina Dowend Williams’ home in Bay Village. Here we will put together shoeboxes filled with personal toiletries to give to the Shoebox Ministry here in the Cleveland area.

We have an ongoing magazine fundraiser through QSP. The chapter is set to receive 40% of all magazine sales. It is super easy, all one has to do is go to www.qsp.com, click on the “Just Shopping” link in the center of the page, and enter account #425046817.

Details of these events can be found on the front calendar and in future emails. Please come and join us if you can at these events!
