HistoryThe City of Georgetown, TX, nestled at the fork of the North and

South San Gabriel River, was established in 1848 as a trading center

for the surrounding agricultural areas. As the story goes, wealthy

landowner, George Washington Glasscock, donated 172 acres of his

land to Williamson County. In exchange for his generosity, Glasscock

asked that the new county seat bear his name. More than 160 years

have passed since Georgetown was established, yet the town has

managed to preserve not just the history of its namesake but also the

traditions of days gone by. Annual cattle drives, community-wide

festivals and extensive preservation efforts have enabled the City of

Georgetown to hold fast to its historic charm. In 1997, the City of

Georgetown became the first Texas City to be designated a National

Main Street City. Georgetown also boasts three nationally registered

Historic Districts: Williamson County Courthouse District, Belford

National District and The University Avenue/Elm Street District.

Amble around the downtown square and you will feel as if you have

CREATIVE PLAYSCAPEPlan a play date for your whole family. The Creative Playscape was recently named the “Best Playground in Texas” by Texas Monthly magazine. INNER SPACE CAVERNEver wondered what is below the earth’s surface? Well the Inner Space Cavern can answer that and so much more. Hidden for 10,000 years, Inner Space Cavern is one of the most well preserved caves in Texas. SAN GABRIEL PARKMeandering right through the very heart of Georgetown is the San Gabriel River. What better place to find one of the most beautiful parks in the state of Texas. San Gabriel Park is graced with 200-year-old oak trees that offer the shade of their branches to family picnics, games of touch football or Frisbee, concerts, festivals, canoeing, swimming and, well, a lazy day of fishing. If biking or hiking suits your fancy, the San Gabriel River Trail, designated a National Recreation Trail by the U.S. Department of the Interior, is a great 9-mile tour. GEORGETOWN SCULPTURE TOURLocated in San Gabriel Park, this rotating exhibit of approximately 30 sculptures, on loan from artists throughout Texas, makes for a perfect walk in the park. The Georgetown Sculpture Tour itself is part of the larger Central Texas Sculpture Tour, which includes the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, Sculpture on Main in Marble Falls and the Sculptors Dominion in San Antonio. THE PALACE THEATERPlan a night out on the town and be sure to catch the curtain call at The Palace Theatre in the historic Downtown District. LAKE GEORGETOWNHave fish, will travel. For the more serious angler or water enthusiast, this 1,200-acre lake offers boating, skiing, fishing, four separate camping areas, a wildlife preserve and 16 miles of hiking trails. Several camping areas are available ranging from primitive to modern. Cedar Breaks Park and Jim Hogg Park have boat ramps and camping facilities with RV hook-ups and restrooms with showers. of Georgetown, Texas. I spent my childhood eating carnival food

and watching the fireworks sparkle over the San Gabriel Park on the

4th of July. Christmases on the square have the same magic quality

that they did when I was younger. The lights, the carolers and the hot

chocolate still warm my soul. It’s not just the festivals and the holidays

that will have me calling Georgetown home well into my golden years,

it’s my neighbors who have become family, the summer evenings spent

swimming in the lake, the sweet smell of BBQ from the Pitt and the

small town charm. What can I say, when I have children, I want them

to stick their hands in the earth at the Inner Space Cavern, get spooked

by Halloween Ghost Tours and grow up in a place like Mayberry.

We love the shopping, the dining and the entertainment that are available throughout our historic downtown and not just because one of the decade-old buildings is where our shop calls home. The community pride is every where you look, from the fans cheering on the local high school football team under the Friday night lights to our annual Christmas Stroll and Poppy Festival. We aren’t just building a business in Georgetown, we’re raising a family.
