For one week in June, our nations capitalis again the ocus o the gol world.Congressional Country Club was ounded
in 1924 as an inormal common ground where legislators andbusinessmen could meet, and now or the third time, its Blue Coursewill serve as the proving ground or the best golers in the world.
Congressionals frst U.S. Open, in 1964, produced one o thechampionships memorable vignettes, as Ken Venturi overcamegrueling conditions and near exhaustion to win his only majorchampionship. In 1997, Ernie Els captured the U.S. Open ora second time, deeating Colin Montgomerie by one stroke.Congressional has also hosted three other USGA championships:the 1949 U.S. Junior Amateur (won by Gay Brewer), the 1959 U.S.
Womens Amateur (won by Barbara McIntire) and the 1995 U.S.Senior Open (won by om Weiskop). In addition, the Blue Coursehosted the 1976 PGA Championship (won by Dave Stockton).
For the 2011 U.S. Open, Congressional has undergone severalchanges guided by architect Rees Jones. Te ormer 18th hole, a par 3,has been redesigned and will play as No. 10. Te ormer 17th hole isnow No. 18, and this sturdy par 4 that eatures an approach shot to apeninsula green should bring another challenging, memorable fnish. We hope that you enjoy the championship and the dramatic stagethat Congressional provides or competitive gol at its best.
