Mission Statement:

The Parks and Recreation Department's mission is to provide wholesome recreational resources in a fiscally responsible manner without compromising the health and safety of staff members or park users or the health and beauty of the environment. Consistent with this mission the Belleville Parks and Recreation Department strives to make all lands and facilities within its jurisdiction great places to visit.

Nichols Community Center: 515 East “D” Street Belleville, IL 62220

Meeting/Classrooms: These rooms can be used for classrooms, lecture halls, conferences, church meetings, neighborhood watch associations, boy/girl scout meetings, or whatever you need. Cost: $18/hour

Gymnasium: Rent out the entire gym to fit your needs. Our gymnasium includes a full basketball court, volleyball net, and all the essentials of any indoor activity. Cost: $36/hour

Instructional Rooms: Lead a class or activity in these spacious rooms. Perfect for most activities from adult aerobics to toddler exercises. Cost: $36/hour

Pavilion Rental: Rent a pavilion at your favorite park for any special occasion. Great sites for Birthday parties, graduation parties, showers or family reunions. Cost: $40 with electric $35 without electric

Soccer Fields: $45/hour with lights $20/hour without lights

Baseball Fields: $45/hour with lights $20/hour without lights

Stone Lodge: 401 Bellevue Park Dr., Belleville, IL 62226

Stone Lodge: Perfect place for family reunions, wedding receptions, showers or parties. The facility can hold 50 people and has a covered pavilion on each side with additional seating. A number of chairs, tables, refrigerator, stove, and restrooms are also provided. This facility is unavailable to rent during Summer months when Camp Quackers is in session. FREE FISHING DERBY: The Belleville Parks & Recreation Department offer this FREE event at the lake in Bellevue

Park. This Derby is open to youngsters' 4-12 years of age with participants placed in groups

according to age. Prizes and refreshments will be available to all.

TOUR DE BELLEVILLE: The Belleville Parks and Recreation Department is presenting families and individuals with a great recreational activity that they can all enjoy while gaining the benefits of exercise and raising money for safety equipment. The Tour de Belleville is a bicycling event that consists of two different routes. You can choose between a 6 and 15 mile course. The date of The Tour de Belleville is Friday July 13, 2012 at 9pm. The ride will start and end at Union United Methodist Church (rear parking lot). Registration will be from May 23rd to July 11th at the cost of $15 per person. After July 11th the cost is $25 per person (cost includes shirt). For more information please call the Parks and Recreation Department Administrative Office at (618)-233-1416.

Concerts in the Park: A summer concert series is enjoyed by all on Thursday evenings in Bellevue Park during June & July. Pack up the family and bring along a blanket, your lawn chairs and enjoy some of your favorite tunes on a summer's evening outdoors. A dance floor is available for those wanting to dance.

Concerts on the Square: There's "Music in the Square", right in the heart of Belleville, accompanied by the soothing water sculpture and colorful lights of the Veterans' Memorial Fountain, every Monday evening in June and July. Bring out your lawn chairs and let the gentle summer breezes and beautiful sounds provide a tranquil ending to your hot and hectic Mondays.

Concerts at Ever Anon Park: Beginning in June and running through September join us on the 2nd Thursday of each month from 6pm to 8pm for an evening that will bring music to your ears. This is a great relaxing event that the whole family will love.

Private Swim Parties: Splash Birthday Parties: Groups of 10 or more can book parties up to two hours between the hours of 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. A 48 hour notice is required for all parties. The cost is $4.50 per child. An optional concession package is available including hot dog, chips & soda for an additional $4.00 per person.

Reservation Fees: $200 security deposit is required with a credit card for all parties. 50 guests or less: $125 per two hours. 51-99 guests: $175 per two hours. ($50 for additional hour for parties.) 100 guests or more: Contact staff for special arrangements. Must be 21 or older to reserve a pool party. Minimum 3 day advanced reservation is required.

KIDDIE CAMP:

A summer program for children 3 to 5 years of age. We focus on your child and provide the chance to cultivate your child’s learning, enhance character, instill social skills, create friendships and discover new interests. He or she must be potty trained and ready to have fun!!! For more information, please call (618) 277-9785. CAMP QUACKERS:

Our summer Day Camp program will begin its 25th Annual season on June 4th through August 10, 2012. The camp is for grades Kindergarten through 6th grade and will be held at our Stone Lodge in Bellevue Park. Camp Quackers costs $80 per week and runs from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. We also provide a pre-camp and post-camp child care. This is a service offered at a nominal fee of $20 per week, in addition to the Day Camp program fee. The weekly fee is the same for any length of time this service is needed between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. or 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. For more information, please call (618) 233-1416.

This program is for the serious tournament player grades 4th through 12th. This is not for beginners. All players are expected to be U.S.T.A. members and actively competing in Tournaments. The Academy will consist of 2 days per week of drills, stroke practice, competitive games, doubles, speed and quickness training. The other two days will be devoted to singles play, each player will be grouped according to ability and play in a competitive singles and doubles matches with other group members. Academy size is limited so sign up early!

Little Kickers Soccer (indoor):

A co-recreational, non-competitive, approach to

teaching safe Soccer to pre-school age children.

The basic fundamentals of dribbling,

passing/receiving and shooting will be taught with

the emphasis of team play. All players receive

a T-shirt.

Little Kickers Soccer (outdoor):

A non-competitive, co-recreational approach to teaching

safe soccer to pre-school age children. Teams consist of a

maximum of 9 players. Each team will practice for the first

25 minutes and then take the field against another team

during the last 20 minutes. Each player will receive a

t-shirt. This is a parent participation program. Parents/

Guardians will be required to assist their child on the field.

Little Hitters Tennis (outdoor): This is an introduction to the game of tennis through fun games that will improve their hand-eye coordination, racquet handling skills and the basic tennis strokes. Little Sluggers T-Ball:

This program is a co-recreational, non-competitive,

approach to teaching safe baseball to pre-school

age children. Teams consist of a maximum of 9

players. Each team will practice for the first 25

minutes and then will bat and field against another

team during the last 20 minutes. All players will

receive a T-shirt and Safety Ball. This is a parent

participation program.

Ages: 3 - 5 Years

Session: May 30th - June 27th

Jr. Tennis Lessons: Players meet 2 times per week. They will be introduced to and progress through the game of tennis. They will learn tennis through fun games and drills that will improve their hand-eye coordination, racquet handling skills and basic tennis strokes. Pitch, Hit & Run:

Aquafina Major League Baseball PITCH, HIT & RUN provides youngsters

across the country the opportunity to participate in an exciting baseball skills

competition. Pitch, Hit & Run is a FREE national program that gives boys and

girls, ages 7-14, the chance to showcase their baseball abilities. PITCH, HIT &

RUN is intended to encourage youth participation and emphasize the fun

element of baseball. This program gives all youngsters the opportunity to pick

up a bat and ball and try our national pastime, because there is no cost for

competing. Boys and girls compete together in four age groups...

Pitching - The participants are tested throwing strikes to a designated target.

Hitting - Allows the youngster to hit a ball from a stationary tee for accuracy.

Running - The individuals are timed, starting at

second base, touching third then home.

ASA Select Fast Pitch: The Belleville Parks and

Recreation Department and Illinois Amateur Softball

Association have made an investment in the future of

fast pitch softball in the metro-east area with its growing

10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 and under fast pitch program. This

program is helping to develop the interest skills and

desire of a new generation of softball players. These

ladies will learn physical and social skills necessary to

excel individually and ultimately ensure the continual

growth of the report. The Girls A.S.A. emphasizes fun

and provides a great exchange of fellowship,

sportsmanship, and the important feeling of belonging.

Spring games are played in May, June and July at

Laderman &

Southside

Park. Ages: 10-18

Men’s & Co-Rec Softball: Teams will play

between 14 and 18 regular season games at

Citizens Park beginning in April . Entry fee is

$700 for Men’s and $525 for Co-Rec teams.

Baseball: The Youth Baseball Program, for boys and girls ages 5-18, is designed to introduce your child to an

organized sport at a comfortable level. Volunteer coaches are sought out for this sport each year.

Belleville T-Ball League: (K - 1st Grade) This is a developmental T-Ball league for all boys & girls that will

be 5 to 7 years old. The league will teach participants the basic fundamentals of baseball. Players need to

only supply a ball glove. A soft covered baseball will be used to develop and instill confidence in the players.

Games will be played at Pleasant Hill Park. The fee includes a t-shirt and a ball cap.

Belleville Robat League: (2nd - 4th Grade) This program provides a safer version of live-pitch baseball for

players. The program uses a live pitching machine instead of a live pitcher, eliminating arm injuries among

pitchers and reducing the number of players who are hit by errant pitches. Games will be played at

Pleasant Hill Park. The fee includes a t-shirt and ball cap.

Optimist League: (5th & 6th Grade) This program is a recreational level, player pitch program for players.

The purpose and spirit of the league is to teach baseball not necessarily winning. Games are played at

Westhaven School. The fee includes a t-shirt and ball cap.

Jaycee League: (7th & 8th Grade) This program is a recreational level,

player pitch teams will play on full size baseball diamonds with teams

from the local area towns. The fee includes a t-shirt and ball cap.

Jaycee High School Travel League: (9th-12th Grade) This program

is a recreational level player pitch teams will play on full size baseball

diamonds with teams from the local area towns. The fee includes

a t-shirt and ball cap.

Fitness 4Girls:

Join us in this judgment-free environment for a dynamic

mix of fitness and health education! The girls will learn

the importance and technique of stretching and

participate in a fun, high energy activity, followed by a

burst of health knowledge. Our goal is to build

confidence and self-esteem, while promoting flexibility

and strength, and teaching the value of healthy eating!

Tai Chi: Tai Chi is sometimes described as “mediation in motion” because it promotes serenity through gentle movements; connecting the mind and body. Originally developed in ancient China for self-defense, Tai Chi evolved into a graceful form of exercise that’s now used for stress reduction and to help with a variety of other health conditions. Alphabet Academy:

This Early Childhood program provides a socially rich

environment that caters to the needs of children. We strive to

promote independence and everyday skills that will help to

enhance the future of these young growing minds. We focus on

the individual needs of your child and create the opportunity to

cultivate their learning, enhance character, instill social skills,

form friendships and discover new interests.

Kids in Action:

Kids in Action is a program that emphasizes

Silly Scientists: We believe children gain knowledge of science through discovery and our creative science projects give our students a hands-on way to explore all areas of basic science. Children love the fun experiments and parents will be fascinated to see their child’s interests grow!!! There are many little ways to enlarge your

child’s world, and a love of books is the best of

all! Our Storytime will allow your child’s

“Wild” Kingdom Explorers: Have you ever wondered the history of your household pets?? Crafts in other Countries: Explore and learn to create crafts from other countries. Your child will be introduced to a whole new approach in making crafts while expanding their cultural horizons. We will bring out your child’s artistic qualities! Babysitting Classes:

The Nichols Community Center will host their Safe Sitter program. Safe Sitter is a one-day, medically

oriented baby-sitting course that teaches the basic life-saving techniques and provides information on

how to act in a crisis situation. Safe Sitter is a nationally recognized program. A limited number of

spaces are available, so register today!

Parent’s “Date Night!”: ALL parents deserve a night to themselves after a busy week! Your child(ren) can socialize and play games with new friends while you use this time to grab dinner and a movie, run errands, or just relax at home! Our planned activities will keep them smiling, and you can feel at ease with the care from our responsible and fun Recrea-tional Staff. A light snack will be provided. All children must be toilet trained and ready to have fun! Limited spots available!!! Registration Information: To register for any program seen in this brochure please either go online to www.belleville.net or call 618-233-1416. Payment can be made over the phone with a credit card.

Policies:

1. Belleville Parks & Recreation reserves the right to alter the schedule, cancel programs, or add programs when enrollment warrants. Waiting lists are formed when programs are filled, and every attempt is made to accommodate the people on these lists. 2. Absolutely no refunds will be made once a program has begun unless the departments has altered or cancelled a program. 3. Programs that do not reach the minimum enrollment will be cancelled. Cancellations of programs are made three days prior to the program start date. In the event that a program is cancelled in mid-session, a prorated refund will be issued. 4. Belleville Parks & Recreation department assumes no liability for personal injuries or loss of personal property while attending park activities. It is the responsibility of the individual or parent of the individual participating to notify the department of any physical limitation (asthma, diabetes, etc.) that may restrict or impair their ability to participate in the program.

Make-ups: If you miss a class due to a personal reason, classes will not be made up. Classes that are cancelled by the instructor due to personal reasons or weather related will be made up at the end of the session.

Help Keep Our Parks Clean: The Belleville Parks and Recreation Department works hard to keep our parks clean so that you may have an enjoyable, relaxing, recreational experience. If you have an event in the park, please clean up after yourselves. If you see something that needs to be cleaned up, let us know.

Picture Policy: From time to time, photos are taken of our participants in our classes, during special events, or at the various parks locations and facilities. These photos are for departmental use and may be used in flyers, brochures or on our website.

Need a Summer Job: The Belleville Parks Department will be hiring summer help. If you are 16 or older and would like to help as an umpire, camp counselor, lifeguard or park maintenance, please contact us at 618-233-1416 as soon as possible to fill out an application.

Class Cancellation Policy: Nothing fails a program faster than waiting until the last minute to sign up. If at a certain point a class has not reached its minimum registration number it will be cancelled. If in the event a class is cancelled, credit will be offered for registered participants or a refund will be given.

Park Hours: All city parks are open year round from 6 a.m. - 10 p.m.

ADA: The programs and facilities of the Belleville Parks & Recreation Department are available to people of all abilities. If special accommodations are needed to participate, please notify us when registering.
