As always, it was an exciting and fun filled evening for all who attended. The evening started out at our business meeting, where members were told how well the Credit Union was doing. It was also announced that Deborah Lau Okamura and Wanda Beppu had been elected to fill the two vacancies on the Board of Directors. At the end of the meeting, it was time for the ever-popular door prizes. Lucky winners walked away with iPods, gift cards to popular stores and restaurants, and our grand prize— a trip for two to fabulous Las Vegas! Shortly afterward, it was time for dinner in the Tapa Ballroom. Our sumptuous meal included Curry Shrimp with Fried Haupia, Steamed Sea Bass Filet with Chili Sauce, and Beef with Hoisin Sauce, and was capped off with a wonderfully refreshing Lychee Sorbet for dessert. Augie Tulba then took the stage and quickly had the crowd in stitches. His humorous “observations” on texting, GPS-assisted driving in Hawaii, and his stint on Hawaii 5-0 as a helicopter pilot showed once again why he is Hawaii’s most popular stand-up comedian. Next up was Nesian N.I.N.E. who wowed the audience with their smooth mix of soulful oldies and reggae-tinged originals. There was even an outbreak of spontaneous dancing by the stage near the end of their show. The dancing continued, with attendees “getting their groove on” to the sounds and lights provided by Mystical Sounds and their amazing mobile disco. A big mahalo to all who joined in the celebration. Meet our highlighted employeefor this issue, Anabel Lindsey, VicePresident of Operations. Anabelhas been with Hawaiian TelFederal Credit Union since 2007and has been working in thefinancial industry for 25 years.

A self-described “Sports Mom,”Anabel spends a lot of her freetime out and about with herchildren (who range in age from6 to 15), shuttling them tovarious activities which includewrestling, cross-country track andhula.

She also loves the beach, and is afan of many types of music—rock,Hawaiian, R&B and more. “It alldepends on the mood,” she says.Anabel has attended concerts byJourney as well as Boyz II Men.

Anabel’s friendly, out-goingpersonality allows her to meshwell with her colleagues. Sheenjoys the people she works withand considers them as one big“ohana.”

On Saturday March 26, HiTel FCUstaff were at the McCully ShoppingCenter to lend a hand and bringsome “ducky cheer” to UnitedCerebral Palsy of Hawaii’s (UCPA)Rubber Ducky Race festivities.

This is the sixth consecutive year thatour staff has donated their time andenergy to volunteer at the event.Some of our staff presided over ourfamous prize wheel and gave outprizes to those who visited ourbooth. Other staff members took tothe streets to collect donations frompassing motorists. Their enthusiasmand excitement could be heard fromblocks away!

At race time, 20,000 rubber duckieswere poured into the Ala Wai Canaland raced to the finish line to winprizes for their adoptive owners.

All HiTel FCU branches were duckadoption centers in the weeksleading up to the race, and we’rehappy to report that many of ourmembers were big winners!

The event was a great success, andall proceeds went toward UCPA toaid them in their mission to improvethe quality of life for those in Hawaiiwith cerebral palsy.

The recent events in Japan shockedand saddened the world, and Hawaiiwas especially affected by thetragedy due to the close ties wehave with our neighbors in thePacific.

This is why Hawaiian Tel FCU staffmembers jumped at the chance tolend a hand on Sunday, April 10 atthe Kokua For Japan Concert at theHilton Hawaiian Village.

The concert, which was broadcastlive on several television and radiostations, was put together by ClearChannel Radio Hawaii and OceanicTime Warner Cable and was held onthe Hilton’s Great Lawn. The eventfeatured such notable nationalrecording artists as Willie Nelson,Michael McDonald and

Mick Fleetwood. Also performingwere local superstars Cecilio &Kapono, The Brothers Cazimero,Kalapana, Na Leo and many more.

Our staff volunteers helped to manthe phones, and take donationpledges from callers all over thestate.

There were even some celebrityguest stars such as Scott Suzui andMayumi Suzui of OC16’s UltimateJapan taking calls and acceptingpledge donations alongside ourvolunteers.

The concert raised a total of $1.6million, and all proceeds will go tothe American Red Cross for disasterrelief.
