Execs, whenever you get a new member to join the Auxiliary, note on the application that you brought that member in, and the State or Local Association with which you are affiliated. Just prior to Connect 2012, we will determine the winner, and the gift card will be awarded at the convention.

In case of a tie, we will draw the winner.

AUXILIARY SUMMER BOARD REPORT

Your executive officers of the National Auxiliary met on Long Beach Island, New Jersey for the summer board meeting on June 20-22. We were fortunate to have Kathy Tindall offer her vacation home to us for the meetings. What a fabulous setting! We were able to make some important decisions regarding our upcoming convention as well as the new marketing mate-rials that we will be offering! We were also

brought up to date on projects like the video and the archives, and discussed all of our brochures and pamphlets and their updates. These meetings are always very important, as we are able to have thorough discussions on many topics to make sure your auxiliary runs smoothly!

Illinois Auxiliary Convention

The Auxiliary held its annual convention in conjunction with the Illinois PHCC. In addition to the Central Illinois Riding Therapy project and annual meeting, a luncheon was held on Friday in honor of Auxiliary President Becky Davis. On Saturday morning, members and guests gathered at SALT in Peoria Heights for brunch followed by a fun afternoon of painting their own pottery project at Fired Up.

Donna Jany was the chairman of the Auxiliary Convention and is to be commended for provid-ing a good time for all. The Auxiliary was honored to have PHCC National Auxiliary President Terry Giebelhaus as their special guest at the convention. At the closing convention dinner, Terry announced the follow-ing as Auxiliary officers for the coming year: President Becky Davis, Vice President Nancy Stewart, Treasurer Donna Jany, and Secretary Barb Page .

New Auxiliary Scholarship – Fran Williams Memorial Scholarship It’s not too late…………..If you would like to contribute to the 2012 Fran Williams Memorial Scholarship, send donation checks to: Auxiliary Recording Secretary Kathy Tindall, 28 Beechwood Drive, Robbinsville, NJ 08691. Please make checks payable to: PHCC National Auxiliary.

Remembering Dorothy Linek "What You See Is What You Get" – Dorothy’s famous words - Dorothy had amazing energy and was an inspiration to all who served with her. She was totally dedicated to the National PHCC Auxiliary, however, her first lesson to all was "family first". She taught us to work hard and to play hard. One of the proudest moments was when Dorothy was the Hostess for the Ladies Luncheon in London at the World Plumbing Conference. She dazzled a large audience of women from around the world. Dorothy will remain a legend in our hearts. I know all who knew her and worked with her will treasure memories of her for a lifetime. Farewell, dear friend !!! Love Anne Williams

Remembering our Founder - Emily Virginia Hornbrook This year, the Auxiliary had a most unique experience. As most know, every year close to

convention time, flowers are placed on the grave of Mother Hornbrook in honor of her place as the founder of the PHCC Auxiliary. The gravesite is near Kansas City, so an account has been established with a nearby florist to prepare a floral arrangement and then deliver it to the cemetery for us. The cemetery would then place it at the gravesite. Last year, when the florist arrived at the cemetery, they were told that the cemetery would no longer be able to place the flowers for us. A phone call was made to Terri Linek, who lives in the same state, and Terri took the lead and the task was completed. Hats off to Terri!! This year, be-fore any plans could be made, Terry Giebelhaus received a note from Roger Peugeot about his adventure in the cemetery where Mother Hornbrook is bur-

ied!! He and his wife Diane had visited the cemetery, did some trimming around the site, placed some flowers and had a picnic lunch with good food and wine! What a beautiful thing to do! This was a generous gesture, completely unsolicited, totally volunteered, and greatly appreciated! Have you ever thought of a romantic luncheon, at a gravesite in a cemetery? This much I can say: I think that I have been inspired! This year, well in advance of the convention, we can all know the grave of Mother Horn-brook has been well attended. It has been such a pleasure to write this article. . .and frankly, I am still in awe of the whole story. If you see Roger or Diane, give them a big “thumbs up”.

Educational Foundation Report by Barb Kreifels, Past National Auxiliary President The Educational Foundation will be celebrating their 25th anniversary with a special donor reception on Thursday, October 4th during the PHCC convention in Philadelphia. This year’s goal for the Invest in Your Future campaign is $145,000. Please check the National website to watch their progress and to make your donation to our next generation of industry leaders. This year the Foundation will award up to 24 scholarships worth a maximum of $60,500. Their deadline was May 1st. The Skills USA contest was held June 26th in Kansas City with approximately 50 students competing. In 2015 Skills USA will be moving to Louisville, KY. A report on the demographic trends in the US workforce and implications for the p-h-c industry show it is possible to predict and plan for employment trends for the next decade. The Career Vid-eo for 7th and 8th graders is in the final editing stage and should be ready for distribution by con-vention. This project was completed with the Auxiliary, Foundation and PHCC all working together. A feasibility study showed both contractors and manufacturers would like to see the Foundation de-velop programs that make better owners and managers. There are currently many apprenticeship and journeyman programs for both Plumbing and HVAC so please take advantage of them. There is also a new Focus Flash online newsletter, which includes the HR Personnel Bulletin, so please take time to read this. It has been an honor serving on the Foundation Board this year and has been a great learning ex-perience for me. There is so much they do for you. Just reading their mission statement will ex-haust you! "The Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors-National Association Educational Founda-tion engages in workforce development, management education and technical training activities for the growth and career success of those employed in the plumbing and HVACR industry." Take ad-vantage of this wonderful resource benefit you receive from being a PHCC member. Thank you!

Your Gift – Satisfaction Guaranteed By John Zink, PHCC Educational Foundation Think about what brings you the most satisfaction in life. Is it getting the daily chores done, finishing that book or proving to your spouse that you were right about that thing the oth-er day? Or could it be that the most satisfying part of your day was when you had a chance to help someone in need – and you did? You can spend a lifetime and a fortune of any size trying to help everyone who needs a hand, but scale things back to causes that matter to you and where the gift you can give will make a difference. Over just the last ten years, the gifts of Auxiliary members, contractors and industry supporters have al-lowed the PHCC National Auxiliary and PHCC Educational Foundation to award over 500 scholarships totaling $1.2 million dollars to students needing a hand with paying for their education. For many of those students, the $100 gift made by someone they will never know gave them the extra help that allowed them graduate. It will be what gives them the tools to start a career and support their family. A little help today can make an impact for a lifetime. What could be more satisfying than that? You can make a tax-deductible gift of any size to the Invest in Your Future Campaign by visiting: www.phccfoundation.org/invest or by calling (800) 533-7694. Our friends at InSinkErator and Fergu-son are doing their part by providing matching funds to each gift.

Auxiliary Necrology It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of this Auxiliary member.

PHCC VP Candidate - Kevin Tindall “Respect the Past – Embrace the Future”

Hello everyone, my name is Kevin Tindall from New Jersey. It is my honor and intent to run for Vice President of the National PHCC at the National Convention in Philadelphia, PA in October 2012. As a PHCC Contractor and Auxiliary member, I am extremely dedi-cated to our organization’s and our industry and am excited to take on this important, challenging, yet re-warding roll. I have been the owner and President of Tindall & Ranson Plumbing Heating and Air Condition-ing and a PHCC member for 20 years. I have served on the Board at the Local and State level for New Jersey in several positions including President. On a National level, I have served as a Zone Director for NY & NJ and Secretary to Past President Frank Maddalon along with serving on numerous other National committees. I also work closely with IAPMO on the Green Technical Committee and the Standards Council. I have also been a volunteer fireman for 36 years and served as President for 15 years. I believe that these past experiences and committee appointments have given me a unique ability to under-stand how to work with other members of the organizations to achieve the best result possible. I have over 36 years of experience in the industry to help guide me. I hope that I will have your support in the voting booth in Philadelphia.

As summer is heating up, so are plans for October when Connect 2012 opens in Philadelphia. I hope to see everyone there! This has really been a fast-paced year for me and PHCC. I am pleased to say that during the past year, we have grown by two chapters reorganizing and doubling their membership and one brand new chapter from Ontario, Canada.

It has been a real pleasure working with Terry Giebelhaus and the Auxiliary during my term as president. I again want to thank Terry for accepting this challenge and repeating as president. It takes a special person to lead the Auxiliary and you all have a great role model in Terry. As many of you in the Auxiliary know, the Auxiliary has been the driving force behind marketing PHCC and the im-portance of hiring a licensed plumber and HVAC technician. I am happy to report that the PHCC Board of Directors has followed that lead and has signed a contract with a marketing agency to further that mission started by the Auxiliary many years ago. I personally would like to thank the Auxiliary for that inspiration and drive to get us on the right track. We will be coordinating the marketing efforts with all entities of PHCC, and look forward to working with the Auxiliary on this exciting project. Again, I am looking forward to seeing everyone in Philadelphia as we celebrate PHCC’s 130th Anniversary. We have several special events planned, as does the Auxiliary. This promises to be a memorable event, so be sure to mark your calendar for October 3rd through 5th and be a part of the excitement!

Successes, Excitement Building at PHCC

MARK YOUR CALENDARS- CONNECT 2012 IN PHILADELPHIA Come join us on Oct 3rd -5th, 2012 at the Philadelphia Marriott Downtown. The Opening Reception will take place at Philadelphia’s Fairmont Water Works Restaurant, which was formerly the steam plant for the city that began operations 200 years ago this year. This year promises informative educational seminars, and amazing networking opportunities in an historic city like no other. Come to the city where it all began-the first Capitol of the United States from 1790 -1800 – Philadelphia, PA!

PHCC VP Candidate - Chip Greene I’m Chip Greene owner of Greene & Associates, a mechanical contractor based in Macon, Georgia. We perform commercial plumbing & HVAC projects as well as operate a service division working for residential and commercial clients. When I went in business 22 years ago, one of the first bits of advice my father (a former mechanical con-tractor for 35 years) gave me was that I needed to join the PHCC. As a part of PHCC for 15 years, I under-stand what he was talking about. The education topics that I have been able to use in my business; the friends I have made who in many cases are like business partners (without the pay); the networking opportunities that association membership provides-all of these items have been a tremendous benefit to my business and in some cases to me personally. I have served on the national PHCC Board of Directors for two (2) years as a Zone 2 director and have a good feel for how the association operates and serves its members. Now I want to serve you as Vice Presi-dent of PHCC. The election will be at 2012 CONNECT national meeting for PHCC October 3-5 in Philadelphia. Please plan to attend not only to cast your vote but to get some great education on quality topics taught by top notch professionals from around the country.

Thank you in advance for your support!!

Please let us know what your local or state Auxiliary is doing. We want to highlight your successes and share them with everyone! It doesn’t have to be long or fancy. Send pictures and we’ll put your smiling faces in the newsletter.

Larry Dore and Robert Cox Awards We have exciting news for you! The deadline for the Robert Cox and Larry Dore Awards has been extended until August 31st! This gives you a little more time to submit your entries! We know the states, locals, and even members-at-large around the country have been doing great works in education, charitable contributions, and promotion of the PHCC industry. Please don't let this go unrewarded! This year the prize money is higher than ever! This prize money can be used for MORE scholarships, MORE charitable contributions, MORE marketing! The application is EASY! Just go to PHCCweb.org and click on the Auxiliary Logo at the bottom of the page. Go to Awards, and it will direct you to the applications for downloading. Just a few paragraphs explaining your project will do the trick! If you are not sure which catego-

ry your project is under, just note that on your application, and the judges will decide where it best fits! To nominate a deserving member of your auxiliary for the Larry Dore Member of the Year Award, write a par-agraph or two about the person's activities and involvement. This member may be extremely active locally but not necessarily on the national level. That is okay, as they are deserving of an award as well! We are one auxil-iary family dedicated to the same principles! Good luck to all of you! Let's make this year's Auxiliary Luncheon the most exciting as we give out prizes and recognition to YOUR auxiliary! Remember, the new deadline is August 31st! Download your applications and send them in right away!

See you in Philadelphia Oct. 3-5! By Gerry Kennedy, Executive Vice President PHCC—National Association

We’re already halfway through summer, which means that CONNECT 2012 (www.phccweb.org/connect) is just around the bend. During this 130th anniversary year, I’m especially looking forward to seeing all of you this October in beautiful Philadelphia. This bastion of American culture is a living guide to the first days of our nation. The

Philadelphia Marriott Downtown, our CONNECT 2012 home base, is located in the heart of the city, giving you plenty to choose from. Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell are located nearby, as are many fine restaurants and the city’s best shopping and entertainment venues. Besides its strong ties to American history, Philadelphia has played a significant role in plumbing and HVACR history as well: it was one of the first large American cities to regard the delivery of safe water as a municipal responsibility. We’ll have the perfect opportunity to recognize the roots of the p-h-c trade during an Oct. 3 opening reception at the Fairmount Water Works restaurant, a gorgeous setting located on the banks of the Schuylkill River and just behind the Philadelphia Museum of Art. This site of the former steam plant and pumping station also houses the Fairmount Water Works Interpretive Center, where you can view the original Water Works equipment. There will be tours available of the center throughout the evening reception, so be sure to check it out. There will be many other CONNECT seminars and activities of interest to the Auxiliary. We’ll launch new training opportunities, like the Water Audit Certification program on Oct. 3. During the Crossing the Generational Divide keynote address Oct. 4, Jason Dorsey will help attendees navigate a multi-generational workforce. There also will be fun, interactive sessions, such as the new Oct. 5 Appy Hour, where you can learn what mobile apps are favorites among your colleagues for both business and personal use. Then later that evening, the week will conclude with the installation and closing reception where you can see your new slate of Auxiliary officers sworn into office while enjoy-ing refreshments and camaraderie with the PHCC family. Speaking of community, Auxiliary members will also have a unique chance to give back by volun-teering with Philabundance, a hunger relief organization, during the PHCC Volunteer Day on Satur-day, Oct. 6. I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity: a few hours of your time—packing food boxes or sorting through food drive items— can really make all the difference for someone in need.
