Nacala, June 28th, 2011Dear friends,

JOY is probably the word that best des-cribes the last days of this term of stu-

dents at the Bible School in Nacala. Th ey represented, in a drama during their gra-duation dinner, a bit of the change that happened in their lives over the past six months. At fi rst, they couldn’t even fi nd Genesis 1.1 in their Bibles, now they can quickly fi nd any passage of scripture. In the beginning, they were fi ghting all the time amongst themselves, now there is a sense of peace and joy in the campus. Even in those who had already gone through smaller terms of bible school we saw an amazing change and that showed us what a good decision it was to change our school from four to six months!

While we congratulated them, aft er they got their diplomas, some had tears in their eyes and others were jumping with joy, but all were clearly aware of the challenges ahead of them. As in their drama, they will fi nd many of their relati-ves deep into traditional practices, their friends living in their old crocked lives

and none of their Bible School teachers around to help them through pressure and persecution. Our human hearts desi-re to protect them from all of that, but we know it is simply not possible. All we can do is to have faith: faith in the Word that was planted in their hearts, faith in the Spirit they have received and in whom they have been learning to live, and faith in Jesus’ promise that they will never be alone!

It is with that faith that we anoin-ted them with oil, we prophesized over their lives and commissioned them to go ahead and be fruitful! Fare well, class of 2011!

TIME TO HARVEST

Th e Afrika wa Yesu six months cur-riculum includes four days of practical evangelism for all the students. It is a very special time in which students and teachers go out to diff erent villages, cam-ping in tents or sleeping in mosquito nets under the moon and the stars and living and eating with the people.

During this time the community is deeply aff ected by close and intense mi-nistry, teachers and students bond to-gether and the students’ faith is raised when they see that such a cheap and simple plan can bring about signifi -cant changes and that’s something they can ea-sily copy at home, with local resources!

Th is year, during the time the students were going out, we also re-ceived 14 young people from Christ for the Na-tions, Dallas/TX with their team leader, Ni-ckie Geldenhuys, an old friend to us. Two days aft er they stepped into African soil, still adjus-ting to the time change and the long trip, they were divided into three groups, accompanied by

three interpreters (Simona, Christa and me) and joined the students that had al-ready gone ahead to three diff erent villa-ges.

Each group evangelized and minister in whichever possible way, and when we gathered again at the school, each had a story to tell: of the new food they’d tried, of the kids they’d met, of the people who had accepted Jesus in the hut to hut evangelism, of the precious moments of meetings with the church! Even though I went to Rassim, I greatly rejoiced with the news that came from Muzuane and Nacoto, where God worked mightily sa-ving many people! Th e work in these two places has been going on for a while and our hearts yearned to see more people coming to the Lord, and standing fi rm even in the face of persecution!

“He, who goes out weeping, bearing the seed for sowing, shall come home with shouts of joy, bringing his sheaves with him.” Psalms 126.6

TIME TO PLANT

Th e students returned to the class-room and we left with the CFNI team to the second part of their trip.

and children. Nampula wa Yesu invited diff erent churches to a Youth Rally and some of them came. Since most of them are used to Youth Meetings that just in-volve diff erent choirs singing, they all came ready “to perform”. But instead we had a wonderful time praising and wor-shiping our Father and hearing a very anointed word. For many of them it was a surprise to see people freely dancing during praise or completely lost in wor-ship! I was delighted to see how chocked they were in the beginning, but then how amazed they became and fi nally how some of them joined in and were able to receive something from God. Aft er the Word we had an altar call and many of them came forward for prayer. I could see some of them were experiencing a touch from God for the fi rst time and that was priceless!

We also visited the Maretane refu-gee camp. Th ere are 8000 refugees the-re, from countries like Burundi, Eritrea, Congo, Somalia and specially Ethiopia (more than 2000 Ethiopians)! We par-ticipated on an event one of the camp’s churches promoted and taught the men and the women separately. Th e most special moment though was towards the end, talking informally with a group of Ethiopians! What a sweet spirited people they are! Th ey told us they left their country looking for a bett er life, running from misery and starvation, but got caught on their way to South Africa

and taken to the refugee camp, where, according to them, poverty and hunger is even worse than in their country. Even so, when they started singing, it seemed like for a moment all that suff ering faded away in the sweet sound of their voices and melody of their songs!

In Rapale, we were about to set up the Jesus Film equipment on our fi rst night, but a huge rain poured down! We had to set up tents under the rain and many had to sleep in their wet sleeping bags, but nothing was too much to handle! We showed the Jesus on our second night and many people came to watch it.

In Murrupula we found ready ground for the Gospel, hearts so open to recei-ve that we felt like moving there straight away! Th ere is a small Afrika wa Yesu group there but not a strong leader yet. Some men from Nampula wa Yesu chur-ch come once in a while to visit them, but there is so much more that needs to be done there! In visiting the huts and talking to people we found many open hearts, and some not so open, but what impressed me was the fact that even strong Muslims sat down to hear the Good News for a long time. Th ey didn’t just shut the door once they heard we were Christians. Many of them received Jesus!

More than 500 people came to watch the Jesus fi lm each of the nights we sho-wed it. Th ey came hungry aft er it to re-ceive prayer and talk. We also got to play

and minister to hundreds of kids in the aft ernoon of Children’s Day! Th e impact was huge, but su-perfi cial yet!

TIME TO CELEBRATE

We said goodbye to the CFNI team and ru-shed to Nacala to be a part of Vocational Centre’s graduation.

Th ey spent fi ve months learning the ba-sics of business and the art of carpentry and went home in the beginning of June.

On the following day we (Simona, Christa and I) left to Inhaminga and tra-velled with some dear American friends and partners to the ministry. Th ey came to Mozambique for the fi rst time to see the place where they have been investing for years! We all participated on the inau-guration of the meeting hall for Inhamin-ga wa Yesu and the new Conference Cen-tre at Inhaminga school’s campus. Both places were built with their investment! How marvelous it is when God provides the fi nancial and human resources and then enables His vessels to all meet toge-ther rejoicing and thanking Him for what He did! Th ere is abundance of joy in such a place!

TIME TO PLAN

Simona returned to Nacala with me, and Moni and David (the Romanian dentist who lives at Inhaminga and her four year old son) also came to see Na-cala before they return to Romania. Th ey went back to Inhaminga aft er a week of good fellowship and planning!

We usually say that our year starts in July. No, we are not late! Just the oppo-site, our NEXT year starts now! It is du-ring this time that we start seeking God for direction and planning for next year. So, these last weeks have been a time of seeking and planning!

At the end of this week we will be going to Inhaminga where we have the annual leadership and team conferences! We believe it will be a very important time for the church of Jesus in Mozam-bique!

Th ank you for your prayers, love and fi nances that enables all this to happen and much more that doesn’t fi t in a lett er!

At His service,With much joy,

Sarah, from the CFNI team, surrounded by the kids in Rassim the whole day long!
