    Answers & Solutions

    1) (2029) 2010 + 4 + 15 = 2029

    2) (19) Jayden will be 8 + 2 = 10 years old in 2 years. Aaron will be 7 + 2 = 9years old in 2 years. Thus, the sum of their ages will be 10 + 9 = 19 in 2 years.

    3) (20) There are three numbers in the circle: 10, 4, and 6. 10 + 4 + 6 = 20

    4) (8 cents) 1 + 5 + 10 = 16 cents for 2 bottles of water. Which means 1 bottleof water is 8 cents.

    5) (Selena) The oldest will have the earliest birthday. Year 1999 is earlier thanyear 2000, and January 1999 is earlier than December 1999. Thus, Selena isthe oldest.

    6) (20) Here is a list of even numbers that is greater than 12 but less than 24:

    14; 16; 18; 20; 22

Among them, only the number 20 appears in the following list (count by 5s):

    5; 10; 15; 20; 25; 30...

    7) (25)

    8) (4 coins) To use the least number of coins, Kendra will need to use as manylarge coins as possible. For $0.32, she can use at most 1 quarter. For theremaining $0.32 - $0.25 = $0.07, she cannot use any dimes, she can at mostuse 1 nickel. For the remaining $0.07-$0.05=$0.02, she will have to use 2pennies. So, Tracey will have to use at least 4 coins: 1 quarter, 1 nickel, 2pennies.

    10) (C) It is an ABCDABCD pattern. Continuing the pattern from the first 4symbols results in answer C.

    11) (10:00 AM) We need to work backwards. P.E. ends at 11:30 (Because thatswhen lunch starts). 45 minutes before 11:30 is 10:45 (P.E. start time). Thismeans Social Studies ends at 10:45. 45 Minutes before 10:45 is when Social

    Studies starts, at 10:00.

    12) (8) Each half-filled block can be combined with another half-filled block tocreate 1 block.

    13) (Ethan) (Information provided by problem is bolded) Dolly = 2nd Place.Xavier is not last (4

th), so he must be 1st or 3rd. Ethan is ahead of Xavier, so

Xavier has to be 3rdand Ethan must have finished in 1st Place.

    14) (9) We will use the Guess and Check strategy on this one.

    Num of

    Boys

    Num of Girls

    (Num of boys + 3)

    Total Num

    of Children Comment

    Guess #1 10 13 23 The guess is too high!Guess #2 8 11 19 The guess is still high.

Guess #3 6 9 15 The guess is just right.
