K urt Stahr is cruise captain for the first cruise-out of the

season to Loch Lomond Yacht Club in Marin from March 19-21. Always a festive St. Patrick’s Day party, there will be a traditional dinner on Saturday Night. Check our website www.nvyc.org for more details and to sign up for the cruise, or contact Kurt. Our website should be up and run-ning shortly and Clay Newton says that there is also some facebook in-volved. Hopefully, members can access our website to see past news-letters, sign up for cruises and find event information. Clay Newton sug-gests that website visitors use the “Suggestions” form that will be un-der “Contact” to provide feedback. Building improvements are on hold pending lease negotiations with the city. The Coast Guard Auxiliary is of-fering a boat safety workshop at our club on March 13th. The Basic Boat-ing Safety course will soon be a re-quirement for all boat owners and operators in the state of California. This one-day class will include infor-mation you can really use with checklists, navigation aids, rules of the road and handling boating emer-gencies. The all day class costs $30. with $10. extra for each additional family member sharing a book. Contact: Curtis Han: 965.3836 [email protected].

A s you have probably heard my “whatchamacallit” got

o u t o f w h a c k a n d “discombobulated.” The surgeon used a “thingamabob” to fix my “doohickey” and now I am better than ever. We have a lot to report on since the deck was completed in Febru-ary 09. We applied to the ABC for a larger footprint to include the new deck, BBQ area and bocci ball court only to be denied. The City of Napa suddenly de-cided that we were a park; there-fore no alcohol consumption out-side. With lots of research by Elizabeth Frater, myself and Clay Parker, the city conceded that the NVYC premises is not a park. After reapplying and 17 phone calls, we finally received the good news. The expanded area was approved on February 19--one year later. Your lease committee is work-ing feverishly to wrap up the lease before the March 30th deadline. We are getting closer. If you are feeling tired of the cold and rain and need some warmth and company, come on down to the club. See you soon. Smooth sailing...Larry Wolfe

T he Super Bowl party was a complete success and this

year’s Chili Contest produced some new winners as well as con-testants. Clay and Mary Parker were the big winners in the Foot-ball pool; each winning one. We are still in need of filling some Friday vacancies for meals and it would help the club very much if you have not signed up to contact Mark Lessler to get on the list. If you come to the club on a Friday and find the Taco “Roach Coach” out front, you will know some member did not fulfill their obligation. We owe Bob Stephenson a big thank you for installing our new big screen TV on his own - it was a great contribution to the success of the Super Bowl party. “The Vice”

Some food for thought… We are a volunteer club and enjoy modest annual dues of $240. We have lots of fun. Unfortunately, our dues income of about $20,000.00 is less than our oper-ating expenses of about $34,000.00 per year. With in-come from Friday dinners, visiting boater dock fees and bar income we are on good financial footing. If you are planning a Friday Night Dinner please feel free to contact Galley Captain Nancy Weeks ([email protected] 253.2276) or Treasurer Steve Vartan ([email protected] 224.6553) for help with menu planning, quantities to purchase and sources for meals that can come in under budget. Thank you, Steve Vartan - NVYC Treasurer

Many of you requested Steve Vartan’s recipe for Honey Glazed Ginger Carrots…serves 60 Purchase 12 pounds of peeled mini-carrots and boil for 5 minutes. In saucepan, melt ½ pound of butter. Peel and grate 6 inch piece of fresh ginger, 2 cloves of garlic and 2 heads of finely chopped fresh parsley. Add to butter mixture along with medium-size jar of honey. Drain mini-carrots and put in roaster at 350°; pour sauce over and roast for about 20 minutes so a fork slides easily into carrots. Salt and pepper to taste. Reduce heat and keep warm at 200°. Enjoy!

Boat Shots... Larry and Linda Sharp, aboard “Blue Sky”, head upriver before re-turning home to Riverpark after a busy weekend at the club. Skipper, the family’s lively golden lab, loved the ride.
