UCF Softball Complex

Since its groundbreaking on March 14, 2006, the UCF Soft ball Complex is where the Knights call home. The state-of-the-art facillity speaks volumes for how far the program has come un-der the directi on of head coach Renee Luers-Gil-lispie and where it is headed. The 600-capacity stadium is one of the fi nest in Conference USA and on the nati onal scene.

The fi eld is professionally manicured by the UCF Facilites and Operati ons staff and includes a cov-ered batti ng pavilion, roomy dugouts, home and visitor bullpens and an outf ield fence lined with palm trees.

UCF student-athletes have access to everything they need to prepare for game-day at the UCF Soft ball Complex. The Knights have a spacious locker room, a lounge area complete with a television, couches and chairs, an equipment room and their own training room complete with a top-notch athleti c training staff .

Along with having comfortable offi ces for each coach, the UCF Soft ball Complex also has a conference room, a video room and locker rooms for both the coaching staff and for umpires. The press box at the stadium has room enough for home and visitor radio broadcasts, as well as multi -level media seati ng.

Fun for the Entire FamilyGame days at the UCF Soft ball Complex provide fans with exciti ng plays on the fi eld and a fun and family-friendly atmosphere while enjoying the game in the stands. Young athletes have the opportunity to meet the Knights and obtain au-tographs following contests throughout the sea-son, while they can also sign up to be a bat girl in the dugout during the game and parti cipate in team cheers and celebrati ons.

With numerous promoti ons and contests put on at the stadium, there is something for fans of all ages to enjoy.

Birthday at the BallparkWhat bett er way to spend your birthday than with the UCF soft ball team? Young Knights have the opportu-nity to host their birthday party at the UCF Soft ball Complex for home games during the 2010 season, with food, drinks and a spe-cial birthday cake provided. Besides getti ng autographs from their favorite team members, the birthday boy/girl will also get to throw out the ceremonial fi rst pitch prior to the game.

Field of DreamsThe Knights want you to know what it feels like to run out onto the fi eld at the UCF Soft ball Complex as the starti ng lineups are announced and the Nati onal Anthem plays. The UCF Soft ball Field of Dreams allows litt le league players 12 and under to do just that. Teams are recognized behind home plate prior to the game, before running onto the fi eld with their favorite player at their own positi on.

Coaching ExcellenceHead coach Renee Luers-Gillispie has blended her experience and success as a head coach with the youth and vigor of two accomplished assis-tant coaches, Stephanie Best and Nicole Trim-boli, for the 2010 season.

Since beginnig her coaching career in 1991, Gil-lispie has totaled 557 career-victories, including 510 at the Division I level. The skipper and the Knights have tallied a 305-210-1 overall record in nine years together. Gillispie has seen her players earn 31 all-conference honors, nine all-region accolades, three conference player of the year awards and six academic all-district disti nc-ti ons.

Now in her second year as an assistant coach at UCF, Stephanie Best not only brings top-level playing ex-perience to the coaching staff , but she also has sig-nifi cant knowledge of how Gillispie and the Knights operate, having been part of the coaching staff , sup-port staff or a member of the squad for the past nine years. In only her fi rst year on the staff , Best helped a program-record fi ve players garner All-Conference USA recogniti on in 2009.

The newest additi on to the Knights’ coaching staff , Nicole Trimboli, also brings professional credenti als and high-level coaching experience to the program. In all, Trimboli has fi ve years of both NPF and coach-ing experience. Prior to joining the UCF staff in 2010, the former Nebraska standout was an assistant coach at Portland State, where she helped lead the soft ball squad to the Pacifi c Coast Soft ball Confer-ence ti tle and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Winning TraditionNow in her ninth season with the Knights, head coach Renee Luers-Gillispie has built UCF into a consistently competi ti ve program, not only in Conference USA, but also on the nati onal level. Since starti ng the program at UCF in 2002, Gil-lispie’s squad has won 305 games, which in-cludes a program-record 49 wins in 2008. Dur-ing her ti me with the Knights, Gillispie has led her team to two conference championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances. In 2008 alone, the Black and Gold defeated teams ranked in the NFCA Top-25 on four diff erent oc-casions, which included a win over No. 1 Florida on the road.

UCF made its fi rst appear-ance in the NCAA Tourna-ment in 2005 aft er taking home the Atlanti c Sun Conference Championship crown.

The Knights made their sec-ond trip to the NCAA Tour-nament in 2008 by posti ng four-straight wins and de-feati ng No. 9 ranked Hous-ton in the Conference USA Championship in Houston, Texas.

During the 2008 season, the Black and Gold put together its most successful season to date, which was capped off by a victory over No. 1 Florida at Kati e Seashole Pressley Stadium to advance to the NCAA Regional Championship Game for the fi rst ti me in program history.

Head coach Renee Luers-Gillispie traditi onally schedules the Knights to play a challenging non-conference schedule, complete with contests against the nati on’s elite programs. In the past two seasons, UCF has played several impressive teams early in the season, including Florida, Arizona State, Florida State, Stanford and Tennessee. The Black and Gold also competes annually in premier tournaments to prepare for its challenging Conference USA slate. In past years the squad has parti cipated in the Hawaii Paradise Classic, the Kajikawa Classic and has also hosted numerous events at the UCF Soft ball Complex. In 2010, the Knights will face-off with nine teams that ranked in the USA Today/NFCA Top-25 at the conclusion of 2009, while also taking on three teams that competed in the NCAA Women’s College World Series, six teams that played in a NCAA Super Regional and 15 teams that parti cipated in the NCAA Tournament.

Knights in the ProsWhile building and developing the soft ball program at UCF over the last eight years, head coach Renee Luers-Gillispie has guided three former Knights to professional careers in the Nati onal Pro Fastpitch (NPF) league.

Stephanie Best became the fi rst UCF athlete to be draft ed by the NPF in 2005 following four electrifying seasons as part of the Knights’ program. UCF’s most decorated soft ball player successfully competed at the professional level for four years, winning the NPF Championship in 2007 with the Washington Glory.

Allison Kime, a two-ti me Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-Southeast Region First Team selecti on, inked a free-agent deal with the Rockford Thunder in 2008 aft er leading the Knights to their most successful season in program history. In 2009, Kime and the Thunder claimed the NPF Championship ti tle.

Following her senior year in 2009, fi rst baseman Breanne Javier became the third Knight to make a NPF roster when she signed a free-agent deal with the USSSA Pride. In her rookie campaign, Javier earned herself a spot in the start-ing lineup and faced-off with Kime in the 2009 NPF Championship Game.

2010 Season OutlookThe UCF soft ball team is setti ng its sights on an-other Conference USA Championship and a re-turn trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2010, and has all the pieces of the puzzle to do just that.

The squad welcomes back the majority of its starti ng lineup from a 2009 season that saw the Knights post a 27-27 overall record and earn a No. 5 seeding in the C-USA Championship with an 11-12 league clip, while also returning head coach Renee Luers-Gillispie for her ninth sea-son at the helm of the Black and Gold.

Joining Gillispie in the dugout will be second-year assistant Stephanie Best and newly ap-pointed assistant Nicole Trimboli, both of which have spent ti me playing professionally in the Nati onal Pro Fastpitch (NPF) league and will be a tremendous help in preparing the team for one of its most competi ti ve schedules on record.

“I am thrilled to have two professional players on my staff this year,” Gillispie said. “They are quality young ladies that have played at one of the highest levels possible in this game. They bring all of that knowledge and all of that ex-citement of the sport to our players and that will make us stronger as a team.”

And stronger the team must be to play the schedule Gillispie put together for the Knights, as the skipper has her squad playing nine teams that were ranked in the USA Today/NFCA Top-25 at the conclusion of 2009. The schedule includes three teams that competed in the NCAA Wom-en’s College World Series, six teams that played in a NCAA Super Regional and 15 teams that parti cipated in the NCAA Tournament last year.

“In order for C-USA to be recognized as a com-peti ti ve conference and take more teams to the NCAA Tournament, we have to play a highly competi ti ve schedule and play the best teams in the nati on, and I think UCF has done its part this season,” Gillispie said. “We play fi ve teams that fi nished the 2009 season ranked in the top 10 in the fi nal NCAA RPI and 13 that fi nished in

the top 50. So it’s prett y tough. But, the team knows it has to be ready to go up against these elite teams and I think that it will be.”

In the CircleThe fi rst step on the journey to the postseason is defeati ng top competi ti on, and it all starts with pitching, a positi on in which the Knights have an immense amount of experience.

In her fourth year as a starti ng pitcher for UCF, Ashleigh Cole (Pace, Fla.) looks to once again be a leader in the circle. The senior paced the Knights in every pitching category in 2009, post-ing a 17-8 record with a 2.42 ERA and 106 strike-outs.

Sharing starti ng nods with Cole in the circle will be fellow senior Kristi na DeMello (Mead, Wash.). The hurler started 18 games last year with 26 appearances in her fi rst season at UCF, adding an 8-8 record, a 2.69 ERA and 92 strike-outs.

“Both Ashleigh and Kristi na got a season under their belts as our ‘go-to’ pitchers last year, and they know what they need to do to step up this year and really take control of the conference,” Gillispie said. “They are working so well togeth-er and understand that it is going to be a collec-ti ve eff ort on their part to make our season a successful one. They both bring diff erent abili-ti es to the mound that we need, so with the two of them working at their best I think our oppo-nents will have a hard ti me getti ng past them.”

Also returning to the Knights’ pitching staff is junior Diana Rojas (Miami, Fla.), who will be looked upon to throw some quality innings of relief. Joining Rojas in the bullpen will be a pair

of newcomers in freshman Kazandra Holliday (Bremerton, Wash.) and junior Ashley Schmitt (Tampa, Fla.), a transfer from Santa Fe Commu-nity College.

“We are really going to be looking for Diana and Ashley to be ready to come in and give us qual-ity innings of relief,” Gillispie said. “Ashley really did a great job for us in the fall to earn a spot on the staff and has two years of collegiate pitching experience. As a freshman, Kazandra needs a litt le more experience under her belt, but I also see her being able to help us out this season.”

Behind the PlateIn order for the pitching staff to be successful, it must have a strong-minded and confi dent catcher behind the plate. Junior Abby McClain (Waterloo, Iowa) fi lls that role for the Knights, as she comes back in 2010 with renewed health and a hold on the role as the team’s starter be-hind the dish. As a catcher and uti lity player a year ago, McClain earned a spot on the All-C-USA Second Team, as well as garnering C-USA All-Academic Team and ESPN The MagazineAcademic All-District III Second Team honors.

“Abby is going to be our key player behind the dish,” Gillispie said. “We will be looking at Abby to not only serve as a leader on the fi eld, but also as a leader to the two newcomers that will share ti me with her in that positi on.”

The two newcomers that will learn the intrica-cies of the trade from McClain are freshman Sam Solti s (Plantati on, Fla.) and junior Lindsey Palulis (Orlando, Fla.), a transfer from Florida Community College at Jacksonville. Both of them have enjoyed great success prior to arriv-ing on campus.

2010 Season Outlook“I think that both Sam and Lindsey are going to learn a lot from watching what Abby has to of-fer,” Gillispie said. “We are looking for both of them to be able to give us support behind the plate.”

In the DirtAlso having an experienced leader to guide them is the Knights’ infi eld, as third baseman and three-year starter Hillary Barrow (Miami, Fla.) returns to the diamond for her senior sea-son. Barrow, a 2007 C-USA All-Freshman Team and 2008 C-USA Championship All-Tournament Team selecti on, matched the UCF single-season record with 16 doubles in 2009.

“Hillary is defi nitely going to be our team leader in the infi eld,” Best said. “Her strength out there is her ability to keep everyone up and focused.”

Barrow is joined in the infi eld by 2009 All-C-USA First Team selecti on Tiff any Lane (Moreno Val-ley, Calif.). Lane, who was also named to the Pre-season All-C-USA Team for the second-straight year in 2010, ti ed for the NCAA Division I lead last season with eight triples and now sits at third all-ti me on the C-USA register with 15 ca-reer triples.

Sophomore Natalie Land (Mayo, Fla.) will once again hold down the starti ng spot at second base this season, aft er having been named to the C-USA All-Freshman Team as a rookie in 2009.

“With Tiff any and Natalie in the middle infi eld, we are not going to have many balls go through the infi eld,” Best said. “As far as keeping the op-positi on’s run producti on down, those two are going to be key for us to win games.”

With the departure of Breanne Javier, the start-ing role at fi rst base is open for the taking. Vying for the right corner of the infi eld will be a pair of newcomers, Arielle Palafox (Lakewood, Calif.) and Marissa Menendez (Tampa, Fla.).

“More than likely a newcomer will be fi lling the positi on at fi rst base,” Best said. “Both Arielle and Marissa have the opportunity to see ti me there. I think the decision as to who will get the start is going to be a matt er of whose bat is hot at the ti me.”

On the GrassThe outf ield will be patrolled by three veterans in 2010, as sophomore Vanessa Perez (San Di-ego, Calif.) and seniors Mary Helen Tyler (Mari-anna, Fla.) and Morgan Bullard (Columbia, S.C.) all return to their respecti ve positi ons.

A C-USA All-Freshman Team honoree, Perez led the Knights with 13 sacrifi ce hits, while adding 37 hits, fi ve stolen bases and a .329 on-base per-centage as the squad’s starti ng center fi elder in 2009.

Tyler returns to her starti ng spot in right fi eld in her fi nal season, while fellow veteran Bullard looks to hold down the left fi eld job aft er suff er-ing an injury in the fi rst week of play last year.

“We feel very confi dent with Vanessa in the outf ield again this year,” Gillispie said. “She and Mary Helen were our anchors out there last year. And with Morgan healthy and strong this season, we are looking at her to patrol left fi eld for us.”

Three newcomers could also see ti me in the outf ield this season, with junior Tawny Swan(Gilbert, Ariz.), Menendez and Schmitt all hav-ing experience in the grass.

All the pieces are on the table for the Knights to make a return to the NCAA Tournament in 2010, and with a competi ti ve schedule, veteran lead-ers and an experienced coaching staff , the squad is looking for those pieces to fall into place.

AMONG THE BEST IN THE LEAGUE The UCF soft ball team set a program-record in 2009 when fi ve members of the squad were selected to All-Conference USA teams. Tiff any Lane garnered All-C-USA First Team honors, marking the third-straight season the Knights have had at least one player on the team. Breanne Javier and Abby McClain both grabbed spots on the All-C-USA Second Team, while Natalie Land and Vanessa Perez were selected to the C-USA All-Freshman Team.

CONTINUING HER REIGN ON TOP Sophomore Tiff any Lane shared the nati onal lead for triples in 2009 to be named a NCAA Division I Stati sti -cal Champion. The speedy shortstop had eight triples on the season, a mark that matched Southern Univer-sity’s Audrey Phillips and Monmouth’s Emily deLong for the top spot nati onally. Lane also bested her sin-gle-season record from 2008 with her eighth three-bagger of 2009, while also taking sole possession of the No. 3 spot on the C-USA all-ti me register with 15 career triples.

NO. 1 IN THE NATION Aft er posti ng seven double plays over their last two weeks of competi ti on, the Knights surpassed Oklaho-ma State for the nati onal lead in double-plays turned per game, fi nishing the year with a 0.60 average, to claim NCAA Stati sti cal Champion honors.

ONE OF THE BRIGHTEST IN THE DISTRICT Sophomore Abby McClain earned a spot on the Aca-demic All-District III Second Team. McClain’s honor marks the sixth ti me in program history that a Knight has earned Aca-demic All-District III honors.

C-USA ACADEMIC HONORS Abby McClain conti nued to receive postseason hon-ors when she earned a spot on the Conference USA All-Academic Team. In order to claim a spot on the 12-member team, student-athletes must have earned a 3.2 cumulati ve grade-point average or bett er and been a starter or key reserve for their team.

300 WINS FOR KNIGHTS, GILLISPIE With its nightcap win over Houston on April 19, the UCF soft ball team and head coach Renee Luers-Gil-lispie earned their 300th win in their eighth year as a program at the Division I level. The Knights and Gil-lispie then extended their all-ti me record to 305-210-1 to conclude the season.

The sophomore tallied a .818 slug-ging percentage and a .750 on-base percentage during the series, while accounti ng for seven of UCF’s 11 total runs on the weekend.

2009 Season Review

NEW RECORD With eight three-hit games under her belt during her sophomore season, Abby McClain surpassed Stepha-nie Best for the program record for three-hit games in a season. McClain set the record with a two-out, two-RBI, walk-off double in the eighth inning to give the Knights the league-series win against Southern Miss on April 5. Best, who previously held the record, had seven three-hit games as a sophomore in 2003.

LAY IT DOWN Junior Ashleigh Cole put her name at the top of the re-cord books on April 5, aft er laying down three sacrifi ce bunts in the series fi nale against the Golden Eagles. The trio of sacrifi ce hits matched Cici Alvarez’s record-setti ng mark for sacs in a game set on Feb. 24, 2007, against George Mason.

FINISHING IN THIRD With 57 hits on the season in 2009, senior Breanne Javier staked claim on the No. 3 spot on the UCF all-ti me record chart with 245 career hits. The mark trails only Jania Shinhoster’s total of 268 hits from 2002-05 and Stephanie Best’s record-holding 285 hits during the same four seasons.

500...AGAIN In 2008, head coach Renee Luers-Gillispie reached 500 wins in her career as a head coach with a win over league-foe, UAB. With the Knights’ win over Southern Miss on April 10, the skipper once again reached the milestone of 500. Gillispie recorded her 500th win at the Division I level in the nightcap of Saturday’s dou-bleheader and now holds a 510-385-3 record at col-lege’s top-level.

C USA PITCHER OF THE WEEK Aft er posti ng a 3-0 record with one save, junior Ash-leigh Cole was named Conference USA’s Pitcher of the Week on March 2. The junior allowed only fi ve earned runs in 26.1 innings pitched for a 1.33 ERA to help the UCF soft ball team to a 6-1 record. The weekly honor was the fi rst for Cole in 2009 and the fi rst of her ca-reer.

IN THE NO. 9 SPOT When batti ng in the ninth spot in the Knights’ batti ng order last season, freshman Natalie Land led the team with a .378 batti ng average. In 18 games started in the fi nal spot in the order, Land also tallied 19 hits, nine runs, four doubles and a home run. UCF was also 10-8 when Land batt ed ninth.

NEW SURROUNDINGS In the fi nal game of the Knights’ series at Memphis, sophomore Tiff any Lane got a diff erent view of the fi eld. UCF’s usual starti ng shortstop, Lane started the contest as the left fi elder. Having missed two games earlier in the week because of an injury, Lane started the second game as the DP, before roaming the out-fi eld for the fi rst ti me in her collegiate career in the nightcap.

UNTOUCHABLE AFTER SIX If the Black and Gold had a lead heading into the sev-enth inning of a contest, its opponent was out of luck in coming back to win. The Knights were 22-0 this season when leading its opponent aft er six innings. UCF’s defense allowed only 13 runs to its opponents in the seventh inning, while scoring 34 runs in the sixth frame, its most for any inning.

Keith R. TribbleDirector of Athletics

The thread that has bridged together nearly three decades working in and around the collegiate community has been Keith Tribble’s history of build-ing programs with strong foundati ons and dynamic structure.

Since his start as Director of Athleti cs and Executi ve Vice President for the University of Central Florida Athleti cs Associati on on June 6, 2006, Tribble has quickly taken hold of the program’s blueprints and promised to lead with a principle that everyone associated with the program will also share - to “fi nish.”

Most importantly, Tribble is committ ed to the concept of the well-round-ed student-athlete, emphasizing the importance of their academic prow-ess off the fi eld as well as championship results on.

In additi on, the other focal point of his concentrati on is the oversight of the constructi on, expansion and completi on of the noted UCF Athleti cs Faciliti es Master Plan. When fi nished, the plan will touch all areas of the student-athletes’ well-being, including residenti al housing, academic and mentoring support faciliti es and state-of-the-art performance venues where UCF fans and supporters can cheer on the Knights. To date, Tribble has overseen $150 million in new constructi on and improvements to UCF athleti c faciliti es since his arrival.

Through a renewed commitment, Tribble has been most proud of the re-cord academic achievement of the UCF student-athletes during his fi rst two years in Orlando. The Knights, for the thrid-straight year in 2008-09, placed the highest number of student-athletes on the Conference USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll with 224 representati ves maintain-ing a 3.0 grade-point average or bett er.

Much of UCF Athleti cs went from transiti oning into Conference USA to competi ng for its ti tles in just a few short years. The football program has played for two C-USA ti tles since 2005, winning the championship and coveted AutoZone Liberty Bowl berth in 2007. In 2007-08, other pro-grams such as women’s soccer and soft ball, and members of women’s track and fi eld, claimed C-USA ti tles. In 2008-09, men’s golf reigned over the league, in additi on to a big Conference USA Tournament champion-ship from women’s basketball. Over half of the programs have competed in NCAA postseason tournaments the past two years.

Successful student-athletes start with top-notch coaching and at UCF the commitment to coaching excellence has been evident. Among Tribble’s transacti ons so far has been the renewal of several successful veteran coaches, including Amanda Cromwell (women’s soccer), Renee Luers-Gillispie (soft ball), George O’Leary (football) and Kirk Speraw (men’s bas-ketball).

Additi onally, Tribble was instrumental in the hiring of several new head coaches, including Bryan Cunningham (men’s soccer), Todd Dagenais (women’s volleyball), Becky Cramer (women’s rowing), Stephanie Nicki-tas (women’s tennis), Terry Rooney (baseball), Bryce Wallor (men’s golf), Courtney Trimble (women’s golf), Caryl Smith-Gilbert (women’s track and fi eld/cross country) and Joi Williams (women’s basketball).

Tribble att ended the University of Florida where he played off ensive guard for three bowl teams. He graduated in 1977 with a bachelor’s de-gree in journalism (public relati ons and marketi ng). Tribble and his wife, Terri, have a daughter, Carlyn, and a son, Kyle.

Excellence Off the Field

In additi on to excelling on the fi eld, student-athletes at UCF also enjoy great success in the classroom and in the community.

The Knights are supported by a nine-person professional staff of advisors and program coordinators from the Offi ce of Academic Services for Student-Athletes (ASSA). The ASSA mission is to support student-athletes’ academic development while exceeding sati sfactory progress toward their degrees.

ASSA advisors coordinate tutoring, mentoring, study sessions, and priority class registrati on for all current student-athletes and assist new Knights through the recruitment process. UCF student-athletes receive specifi c academic and athleti c informati on at orientati on as well as study skills and ti me management instructi on through out the year. More than 50 computers are available for student-athlete's use anyti me during the academic year.

During the 2008-09 academic year, UCF set a Conference USA academic record aft er placing 224 student-athletes on the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll. UCF had the most student-athletes earn spots on the honor roll for the third-straight year. Student-athletes must maintain a cumulati ve grade point average of 3.0 or bett er to earn a spot on the honor roll.

In additi on, 34 Knights earned the C-USA Commissioner’s Academic Medal. The medals are awarded to student-athletes who achieve a cumulati ve GPA of 3.75 or bett er.

Along with working hard in the classroom, the Knights are also acti ve in the community, do-nati ng their ti me to worthy causes throughout central Florida. In recent years, members of the soft ball team have helped disabled children play baseball as part of the Miracle League and volunteered their ti me at the Jenny Finch Soft ball Camp, as well as the Knights Give Back project where they spent ti me preparing Camp Thunderbird in Apopka to make it safe for the arrival of over 130 disabled children.

Towers at Knights Plaza

Numerous UCF student-athletes reside on campus at the Towers at Knights Plaza, modern apartment-style dormitories on the north side of campus which allow student-athletes to live within close proximity to UCF’s athleti cs faciliti es. The apartments feature common kitchen and living room areas as well as four single bedrooms with full-size beds. Each bedroom includes high-speed Internet access, cable television and local phone service. The Towers at Knights Plaza feature 100,000-square feet of retail shops and restaurants. Tenants include Barnes & Noble bookstore, Subway and Knightro’s cafeteria, where UCF student-athletes dine. The apartments are located near the majority of the athleti cs faciliti es, including Bright House Networks Stadium, UCF Arena, The Venue at UCF, Jay Bergman Field, the UCF Soft ball Complex and the UCF Track and Field and Soccer Complex. The Towers at Knights Plaza are also in close proximity to the Wayne Densch Sports Center and Nicholson Fieldhouse.

Athletics FacilitiesFrom Bright House Networks Stadium to the UCF Arena, UCF student-athletes play and train in top-notch venues. The school’s always growing and improv-ing athleti cs complex is part of UCF’s commitment to provide student-athletes with excepti onal and modern faciliti es. In the past few years, this commitment has assured that the UCF athleti cs faciliti es are not only among the best in Conference USA, but across the nati on.

The 45,000-seat Bright House Networks Stadium, the home of the UCF pro-gram, shared its debut season on campus in 2007 with another brand new facility - UCF Arena. Home to the Knights’ men’s and women’s basketball pro-grams, the 10,000-seat venue also opened in the fall of 2007. The arena, which also hosts concerts and UCF commencement ceremonies, includes luxury box-es and suites, open concourse areas and numerous concession opti ons.

Other faciliti es that have seen upgrades in recent years are Jay Bergman Field – home to the baseball program - and The Venue at UCF, the renovated previ-ous arena which now houses exclusive modern practi ce faciliti es and offi ces for the men’s and women’s basketball programs, as well as an equally-spacious home facility for volleyball. Off campus, two new faciliti es opened in 2009 - the UCF Intercollegiate Rowing Center and the UCF Golf Practi ce Facility.

UCF’s Faciliti es Master Plan includes numerous facility enhancements in the coming years, including the planned constructi on of a new stadium and en-trance structure at the UCF Soccer and Track and the expansion of Jay Berg-man Field. The vision for a new academic services center is imminent, one which will provide student-athletes greater access to resources near their new Athleti cs Village residences, and further assist their progress towards their de-grees and post-graduate success.

When UCF Athleti cs completes its Faciliti es Master Plan during the next de-cade, every sport and every student-athlete will have received the benefi t of an improved facility to practi ce, train and compete for championships in.

Page 68: 2010 UCF Softball Yearbook

The strength and conditi oning program is an integral component of UCF’s 16-sport athleti c family. The most visible sign of the Knights’ commitment in this area is an 11,200-square foot weight room located in the middle of the Wayne Densch Sports Center. The state-of-the-art facility contains the fi nest free weight and machine equipment, cardio equipment and treadmills. UCF also houses a weight room in The Venue, which is uti lized by the men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball programs. Five certi fi ed strength and condi-ti oning coaches monitor the progress of UCF’s student-athletes.

Strength & Conditioning/Sports Medicine

The UCF sports medicine faciliti es are fully equipped with the most up to date technology, including a SwimEx aquati c therapy pool, used to aid in advanced rehabilitati on of the elite student-athlete. The main athleti c training room is located in the Wayne Densch Sports Center with additi onal locati ons at The Venue, Jay Bergman Field, the UCF Soft ball Complex and the brand-new UCF Intercollegiate Rowing Center. The sports medicine staff consists of six full-ti me athleti c trainers, seven graduate assistant athleti c trainers and approximately 60 undergraduate athleti c training students.
