DEAERATORS-DIRT SEPARATORS

Operating principle

The deaerator-dirt separator uses the combined action of several physicalprinciples. The active part consists of an assembly of concentric metalmesh surfaces. These elements create the whirling movement requiredto facilitate the release of micro-bubbles and their adhesion to thesesurfaces.

Bubbles, when fuse with each other, increase in volume until thehydrostatic thrust is strong enough to overcome the adhesion force tothe structure. They rise towards the top of the unit where they arereleased through a float-operated automatic air vent valve. When theimpurities present in the water collide with the metal surfaces of theinternal element they separate and fall to the bottom of the valve body.

The Caleffi DIRTCAL dirt separator, thanks to the special design of itsinternal element, is able to completely separate the impurities in thecircuit down to a minimum particle size of 5 m.The graph below mentioned, summarising the tests carried out in aspecialised laboratory, illustrates how it is able to quickly separatenearly all the impurities. After only 50 recirculations, approximately oneday of operation, up to 100% is effectively removed from the circuit forparticles of diameter greater than 100 m and on average up to 80%taking account of the smallest particles.

The continual passing of the medium during normal operation of thesystem gradually leads to complete dirt removal.

Operating principle

The separating action performedby the dirt separator is based onusing the internal element withreticular surfaces in place of theordinary filter. The screen, by itsnature, offers little resistance tothe flow of medium while ensuringseparation.This occurs due to the particlescolliding with the reticular surfacesand then settling, and not byfiltration; an action by which thefilter, over time, gets progressivelyclogged by the sludge it removes.
