    CONFERENCE HEADQUARTERSRepresentatives of the conference staff will be available in the Coat Check Room atthe Washington Hilton on Friday and Saturday during regular conference hours.

    NAME BADGESConference badges must be worn to all conference activities, including the socialevent. Requests for replacement badges may be made at the registration desk or inconference headquarters. There is a $5 charge for a replacement name badge. Thisfee must be paid in full on-site.

    TRAVEL ETIQUETTEIf traveling by taxi, ask for the fare before departure. Keep change handy forbellmen and doormen tips, phone calls, and similar situations. Generally, a 15-percent tip is appropriate for servers and cab drivers for good service.

    CHAPERONESThe National Association of Secondary School Principals requires adult chaperonesfor high school students attending conferences such as this one. FBLAPBLrequires compliance with this policy. Chaperones should enforce dress code andcurfews, ensure that students attend conference activities, and follow commonsafety practices.

    MEMBERS WITH DISABILITIESMembers with disabilities add an important dimension to the organization.FBLAPBL is committed to working with these members to ensure that they receivemaximum benefit from the conference activities. Contact a representative of thenational staff if you have particular needs or requirements.

    CURFEWSDelegates at FBLAPBL conferences are expected to follow the published curfewtimes. This requirement is designed both to protect individual delegates and torespect other guests in the hotels we are using for our meetings. Hotel security willenforce the published curfews, which are to be interpreted as being the time bywhich members should be in their own rooms and quiet for the night.

    FBLA-PBL members and advisers should develop an awareness of the image onesappearance projects. The purpose of the dress code is to uphold the professionalimage of the association and its members and to prepare students for the businessworld. Appropriate attire is required for all attendeesadvisers, members, andguestsat all general sessions, competitive events, regional meetings, workshops,and other activities unless otherwise stated in the conference program. Conference

    name badges are part of this dress code and must be worn for all conferencefunctions. For safety reasons, do not wear name badges when touring.

    Professional attire acceptable for official FBLA-PBL activities include:

    Males Business suit with collared dress shirt, and necktie or Sport coat, dress slacks, collared shirt, and necktie or Dress slacks, collared shirt, and necktie Banded collared shirt may be worn only if sport coat or business suit is worn Dress shoes and socks

    Females Business suit with blouse or Business pantsuit with blouse or Skirt or dress slacks with blouse or sweater or Business dress Capris or gauchos with coordinating jacket/suit, worn below the knee Dress shoes

    Inappropriate attire, for both men and women, includes: Jewelry in visible body piercing, other than ears Denim or chambray fabric clothing of any kind, overalls, shorts, skorts, stretch

    or stirrup pants, exercise or bike shorts Backless, see-through, tight-fitting, spaghetti straps, strapless, extremely short,

    or low-cut blouses/tops/dresses/skirts T-shirts, Lycra, spandex, midriff tops, tank tops, bathing suits Sandals, athletic shoes, industrial work shoes, hiking boots, bare feet, or over-

    the-knee-boots Athletic wear, including sneakers Hats or flannel fabric clothing Bolo ties Visible foundation garments

    CLARIFICATIONMany womens two-piece suits currently are designed so that theydo not require a blouse. Therefore, this will be accepted. In addition, sling-backshoes, open-toe shoes, and sleeveless dresses are accepted.

    FBLA-PBL members have an excellent reputation. Your conduct at every FBLA-PBLfunction should make a positive contribution to extending that reputation. Listedhere are rules of conduct for the National Fall Leadership Conference. All delegateswill be expected to:

    1. Behave in a courteous and respectful manner, refraining from languageand actions that might bring discredit upon themselves, their school, otherdelegates, advisers, or upon FBLA-PBL.

    2. Obey all local, state, and federal laws.

    3. Avoid conduct not conducive to an educational conference. Such conductincludes, but is not limited to, actions disrupting the businesslike atmosphere,association with nonconference individuals, or activities that endanger selfor others (running in the general sessions, standing on chairs, using laserpointers during workshops, bodysurfing at dances, etc.)

    4. Keep your advisers informed of your activities and whereabouts at all times.Accidents, injuries, and illnesses must be reported to the local or stateadvisers immediately.

    5. Avoid alcoholic beverages (for those under 21 years of age) and controlled orillegal substances of any form. These items must not be used or possessed atany time, or under any circumstances. Use or possession of such substancesmay subject the delegate to criminal prosecution.

    6. Act as guests of the hotel and conference center. Participants must obeythe rules of these facilities. The facilities have the right to ask a member ormembers to leave. Do not throw anything out of windows or over balconies.

    Do not run down hallways. Noise should be kept at a reasonable volume,especially in the hotels.

    Remember there are other guests in the hotels who have rights as well. Trash (thisincludes pizza boxes, bottles, cans, etc.) must be placed in the proper receptaclesand not left on guest room or meeting room floors. Individuals or chaptersresponsible for damages to any property or furnishings will be responsible for itsrepair or replacement. Local and state advisers are responsible for the supervisionof delegate conduct.

    Disregarding or Violating the Code of ConductDelegates who disregard or violate this code will be subject to disciplinary action,

    including, but not limited to, forfeiture of privileges to attend further events,confinement to your hotel room, dismissal from the conference, and being senthome at your own expense. Parents and/or guardians will be notified and FBLA-PBLreserves the right to notify law enforcement officials.

    Keynote Speaker: Alton JamisonAlton Jamison grew up in a small Virginia town, his

    mother struggling to raise him as a single parent whilehis father was in and out of prison. Alton faced numer-ous obstacles and challenges, but was able to believein the principle that he is bigger and better than hisenvironment. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Sciencedegree in mechanical engineering at Old DominionUniversity, where he was recognized in Whos WhoAmong Students in American Universities and Colleges.He also obtained a Master of Arts in Practical Theologyfrom Regent University.     Richard Rowe served over 20 years in the U.S. Navy,living abroad while also visiting over 50 differentcountries. He has experienced leadership and humanbehavior on all levels, from the entry-level military

    person to noted government leaders and differentreligious leaders throughout the world. He has pre-sented over 1,000 speeches and seminars nationally andinternationally. Richard is a certifed master training spe-cialist for the military (only the top 10 percent of allfacilitators have this certification). He is a member of theAmerican Society for Training & Development and theNational Speakers Association. He holds an associatedegree in technical instruction, a bachelor of sciencein business administration, and a masters of science in

    management with a focus on adult learning.
